  1. Great Peter! 2 things 1) I edited your post and took out the quote to the complete first message. 2) I'm getting serious with line breeding again and should have fish to share around in 3-4 months. We should really get a guppy society of the ground. Important I think is that we get a group of people together who are serious about line breeding guppies, who agree that keeping records of the breeding is important and who are willing to share resources. I'm convinced that with a few years of hard work we can get to a decent 'standard' of show guppy. and
  2. A list of all species reported sofar can be found here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/index.php?id=387&list=1 People, I can't believe we have only 4 people in New Zealand keeping fish!! help me out here, I'm collecting data for a proper fish survey. Those of you who did contribute early on when it was still anonymous, please visit the list again and add your species. Cees
  3. I integrated the fish survey with the main site http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fish-survey.0.html I pulled the list from the maf website at http://www.maf.govt.nz/biosecurity/impo ... #appendix1 While going over the list I noticed the following entry Acanthophthalmus spp, Coolie loaches Is that correct ?? I always thought it was Kuhli loach

  5. Rob, Caryl you are both right. (or wrong, depends on your perspective) I'm language impaired (especially at 1 am): on http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fish.php I wrote : "The survey is crude, and the button 'Now in NZ' is one way" I meant to say, the button is a 'one way' submission, as in you can only "submit" but not "unsubmit". whatever
  6. I used this, http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishlist.php and discovered I only keep 3 species. pathetic Cees
  7. let me qualify that eventually.
  8. no which one was the mistake ?
  9. Lets do a semi scientific (big word) experiment and get some real data about fish species availability in New Zealand. This is in response to the discussion about "wholesale/import/local breeding/ can I get an exotic species" http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=342 and http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=343 I've taken the 'allowable species' list from MAF and converted it into a survey (20 minute job, very crude). The idea is to get some data on whether a species is available in New Zealand or not. I realise it is very limited because species definitions are very broad for some of them. The survey is also open for abuse and there is no way to check whether submitted data is correct. (How's that for 'scientific') Anyway, try it here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fish.php and if you are game try this one http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishlist.php (experimental) here you can add species into the appropriate group of the list I know that navigation on these pages is still problematic. If this turns out popular than I'll improve on it.

  11. I can do the topic split. Would be another 2-3 minutes clicking. But I'm not going to now. I saw that Peter started a new thread on Betta genetics already. Thanks Peter. I don't wish to 'moderate' these very interesting discussions at all. Just let the conversation drift, it's great. I just dropped a little hint/reminder. I agree with all of you Cees

  13. My understanding ( http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plants.0.html ), but I could be wrong, was that the plant survey booklet was originally written to 'survey' what plants are available in New Zealand. It was first published in 1996 if I remember correctly and not changed/updated since. The "plant survey online" has just started!!! Here's an idea. If you have plant (in New Zealand) that's not in the 'survey online' than send me an email, photo with it would be great. If it's positively identified I will add it to the survey under a section 'new additions'. Then I will request to report 'other sightings' of that plant to get an idea about availablility etc etc
  14. It's not in the plant survey so I doubt very much that it is in NZ. Although, I've heard (rumors) that after the plant survey was published someone started importing from tropica making the plants survey incomplete.
  15. Welcome aspiringamano. Hope you'll enjoy yourself here. I certainly enjoyed the pictures of your tanks. The 100g is that open top? what's the lighting on that?

    Do guppies ?

What makes you think I'm an expert. Ok Ok, I'll try to be 'more active' in this forum Peter. Yes, H/B guppies would good to work with. There are 2 types as far as I can tell. Both male/female halfblack or only male H/B with no black on female. There is an aweful lot of info out there on the web about this. Hopefully soon (heard that before) we will have guppies.fnzas.org.nz or something like that where Peter and I will compile lots of material about guppies (won't we Peter) Still doesn't answer Fatman's question though. Not sure if I understand question correctly. You moved the female during the process of producing the fry or did she produce 10 more after about 30 days of the 1st lot? I suspect the latter because you mention the color differnece. Quite possible, contact with another male. Peter, my fish are doing fine

    I've got 100 4cm guppies, that's 4 meter
  18. Nope, Original photos of plants in flower in New Zealand. Provide date/location/owner. 1) helps with identification of what's really in this country 2) as a challenge In the days when I was still more active with the UHAS we played with the idea of a plant growing registration similar to the fish breeding registration. Points awarded for propagating plants. Flowers would score a good bonus point. I'm not sure if it ever got of the ground though.
  19. I'm posting this for Derek Just back from his fishroom. One of his crypts produced a flower and we took a picture. Cryptocoryne cordata can we start a trend here (hint hint)
  20. As part of the hosting support I'm able to offer free webspace to all FNZAS clubs. How does it work? 1) Each club can have up to 5 (number is negotiable) pages. 2) The address (url) would be http://www.fnzas.org.nz/yourclub or http://yourclub.fnzas.org.nz/ if you prefer. The address can also be a registered (or to be registered) domainname suchs as http://www.yourclub.org.nz. 3) Web pages are to publish information about your club (text with limited size/number images) in agreement/style/harmony with the fnzas.org.nz website (and yes I can change the 'colour/font/template etc' for your club pages). 4) Content management will have to be done by a clubmember 5) Space for publication of larger documents (such as pdf files of newsletters) will need to be negotiated on a cost basis. Interested ?? Contact me and I will setup the space and provide you with the details for 'content management'.
  21. tell me more :-) Those of you who where at the conference, what happened. And can someone send me an updated list of the executive. Some data on this site will now be out of date.
  22. Hi Ira, I will check program tonight but seem to remember it was 'members choice' which usually means that 'we' talk about fishkeeping a lot. The meeting is at a place called 'maidstone center' on goodshed road. Next to that motorcycle place (on the left or was it right... hmmmm. right I think). 2nd Thursday of the month is next week 13 June.
