  1. received my issue in the mail today. well done Caryl ! I enjoyed reading it. wrt page 37, the Martin Glossop article on Fish-keeping in NZ here are a few comments - http://www.fnzas.org.nz/ receives more than 500 visitors each day (that is visitors not just hits) - Since 15 Mar 2001 our users have posted a total of 16454 articles. That is more than 16 individual responses every day . the last 6 months about 30/day. (Ok, I admit, it includes the word-association game, ~ 1000 posts) - We have 428 registered users - The chat room appears busy just about every night (11 chatting now) We're out there, bringing the hobby into the public spotlight, chatting to people who found this site because they realise there must be help about outside the pet shops. Times change, my priorities change. I keep fish in my fishroom. I give them away to youngsters all the time. I don't attend club meetings too often. Try to go to FNZAS conference if I can. Fish shows ... by all means go for it. Some people (old and young) will enjoy them for sure. Will I participate? I want to but somehow I doubt it ...
  2. HI Guys, to make this forum (and others) a success please stay on topic. Start new topics where required. as you were. Cees
  3. This forum is provided by the FNZAS for commercial suppliers of aquarium trade related products to display/announce their products. The rules are simple. Enquiries about donations towards maintenance of the fishroom website or information about other advertising opportunites should be send to [email protected] - this is a public service. the fnzas.org.nz/fishroom website is under no obligation to accept posts. - posts can be deleted by moderators and website administrators without warning. - make sure links to websites work ! - images are ok (on your server) but keep them at 360*240 or smaller and small/compressed size - you spam -> you are out! - you give discounts when people mention the website -> you are our friend!
  4. I just added a few more photos thanks to Kevin. If you send me photos please send them as 480x360 jpg (high compression). Saves me 5 minutes converting them. Cees p.s. Send me a Mbyte size photo and you will get on my blacklist (kevin, you're still ok )

  8. Sure, I will be in touch soon. Have to finish one other big job. will take me a couple of weeks.
  9. With a bit of luck the fnzas site will get a complete revamp before Xmas. Plan is to have the FNZAS breeding scheme online. Hopefully it will have the following features. Club breeding coordinator online submission form FNZAS coordinator submission approvals and maintenance page display pages for breedings per club/species/breeder historic data uptodate scorecard other feature ?? suggestions? Over the last 2 years I have made several starts on converting the ms-access system developed by Kelly to a module that could be integrated in this site. Never finished one though. But now that this site seems to become more useful I'm more motivated to get it done. Rob, can you send me a latest version of the ms-access database (zip compressed ;-) ) I'll contact you about ftp upload of the pages produced by ms-access so we have something to display until the new module is finished. NB: This module (breeding pages) is for the FNZAS breeding scheme. I have no intention to create a 'database' of NZ breeders that are not members of the FNZAS and/or do not participate in the scheme. (I guess http://trademe.co.nz would be the place for these breeders )

    A Prowler from OZ

plants ... lots of fast growing plants. If they are healthy the fish will be healthy and you start worrying about low nitrate levels instead Cees

    Website Update

Starting to look good. Good photos. I have to agree with Caryl, reverse the colors, use dark font on light background. Much easier on the eyes. Perhaps you can make the photos smaller with links to larger versions. Give an overview first before loading the page with the larger photos. Good job, keep it up.
  13. If you do go ahead and order from brineshrimp direct tell them to label the shipment correctly, including the scientific name. Artemia Fransiscana is what they supply and that species is allowed. http://www.maf.govt.nz/biosecurity/impo ... ic.all.htm Saves you lot of trouble with MAFif the documents are all there. BS-direct now know about this (I told them) but may have forgotten again.
  14. I have nothing left (Andrew, you still want that last one? ) Don't think anyone missed out. My advice, spend the extra $ and get premium grade. It's worth it. I don't even have to separate unhatched eggs from bs anymore and that was a hassle with the economy grade. If you're lucky (not) you need to add import duty (GST) to the price as well.

    Wow!

Is that still the case? Any mac users out there? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/ shouldn't crash any browser if I can help it.
  16. one can left. $88. first come first served. Email me
  17. There are many good websites showing you how to hatch brine shrimp. Either in a shallow pan or (most effective) in a cone shaped container. search google Here's an easy way to make hatchery http://ng.netgate.net/~jlatham/Hatch.html Just had some new eggs in from brine shrimp direct. http://brineshrimpdirect.com/brineshrim ... l#hatching I follow the instruction that came with the brine shrimp eggs - sea-water (I use instant ocean) at 25 ppt (rock-salt+magnesiumsulfate+sodiumbicarbonate will do as well, keep pH up) - no more that 1g/liter eggs - 28 oC - well aerated to keep eggs in suspension - 24 h light ( at least light for first few hours should be enough) I get +90% hatching after 24h Using the correct procedures and still getting poor hatching means poor quality eggs.
  18. More photos uploaded this one is special http://www.fnzas.org.nz/470+M5866d9a4def.0.html

  22. If you have contacted me re getting some of that bs (like you have) then you are on my list and those on the list will be served first. Likewise, I'm eagerly awaiting delivery and will get in touch we you all once I have them.
  23. Hi all, Update on brineshrimp order. I have placed the order today. premium grade (might as well get the best) probably about NZ$80/can delivered in NZ. Will keep you posted. I have list of people who expressed interest before. It will be first come, first serve. Cees
  24. HI Warren, You have now access to a few more pages. If you have any problems (items not showing, actions denied) email me a.s.a.p. There are about 100+ switches I can turn on/off. I sometimes forget 1 or 2. Anyway, the Officers page is a bit tricky with address records, inserted records etc. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Don't worry about breaking it. All actions are logged and I have access to an undo list a mile long. Cees
