i got hold of some plants out of a small garden pond here in chch aparently the kids next door had put them there and they had grown out of control. they propagate by runners they kind of look like saggiteria or a really small val they are no more than 25cm tall max they intriging feature is that the tips of the leaves are round not pointed and some of the middle leaves spread out at the top kind of like a sword plant only smaller

if u can cast out quite far or have a kontiki birdlings flat on the way to akaroa is good just be careful round the rocks at the end as the tide comes in

there was an action on there for just the koura i cant find it now maybe its benn removed yay and hopefully the koura goes back into coldwater

the tank may be a 3 fter but the tubes are only two foot and 18 or 20 watts each i use 2 liight hoods like this on an identical tank , 2 be honest as its such a deep tank would t5s do it a lot better

u pretty much need sand and it likes a lower temperature. buy it at a garden centre in the marginal plants section its cheaper

r the thermometers right next 2 each other as he temp can vary around the tank

stir it upin spot u think is a dead spot if u see bubbles rise to the surface this would suggest anaeobic bacteria making nitrogen and thus a deadspot

the other thing that has caught me out is asking how much will it cost? the aswer is not your quote if u asked for a quote u will get 1 , if u asked how much it costs you will get an estimate. my mechanic wont give quotes for jobs he gives estimates which are normally right on the button never more than $20 either side

if its from an established plant it will probably be in a mat like clump

its more getting it root in the first place. once established u shouldnt have any problems

i found a biolux tube to really bring out the blues and reds that in use with a marine white really does the trick

cool how big is tht nd is the barbed wire to keep him from climbing trees and eatin koalas or just to stop possums

ph normally becomes a problem with overfeeding and not enuff water changes this is where some pet shops make money by giving them a band aid and not a prevention. we must remeber there are a lot of ppl still out there that believe fishkeeping is as simple as a golfish bowl fill with water and plonk a fish in. so when the fish starts dying , they go 2 the lfs who say have u tested the ph , no how do i do that, u buy a test kit it should be neutral. now they will either find its slightly alkalne in chch or acid , so back to lfs buy ph up or down and kill another fish due to changing the ph 2 rapidly. all that really needs to be said is, do u have ane calcium based roocks if the ph is high(assuming the ph test kit) or try feeding your fish less and the magical statement do a waterchange i admit sometimes there will be a case where its something out of the ordinary causing ph readings but generaly not

i found glosso hard enuff to plant even in sand, i gave up in the gravel!

didnt know we had 1 of those i was taking photos the other nite but before i got to them both sets of camera batteries run out! the red betta died yesterday, dropsy i think is finslooke nipped when i got him but othrwsw he was very pretty and looked to be in good health . the blue 1 is looking good tho. i have also lost a few neons, i brought a betta tank that attaches to the inside of the big tank using suckers however there is a small gap between this and the front glass and fish ted to get stuck there until i glued some pipe round it to stop it killing my neons

this can also get u off annoying agents ringing up all the time when ur rented house is on the market. we agreed to only deal with the property manager and that there would be two open homes a week at set times and in writing wrote that our ph number was not be given out to agents , they completly ignored us so when agents ring up i swear at them or tell them the house is already sold. we will be taking them to court over privacy matters. to make matters worse the actual landlord is a real estate agent

just give them a few weeks to settle in before u start pulling them out as they may die down a lil atg first before they get going

when i ordered a fluidised bed filter including sand off e bay it took 2 wks longer than wat it was meant to, customs had opened it and tested the white sand for drugs, got the rest of the sand a few days later in an envelope. while this was not maf this time u would think that maf would have been interested in the sand too as there is no such thing as brand new sand(its got to have come from somewhere)
