    salt and molly

dont use table salt unless its non-iodised and donsent have a anti caking agent both of these are toxic try an organic salt or even better buy proper marine salt. the fighter will not like the salt for long periods of time. if u are doin this to help cure whitespot its fine but if a petshop or somebody told u mollies need salt i wouldnt bother unless ur going to set up a brackish tank with brackish fish(not fighters) mollies do better in a brackish(slightly salty) environment but can survive well in freshwater too u will just just have to keep the water clean and preferably hard and alkaline(also not good for fighters, they like softer more acid or neutral water)
  3. the other thing is there is probably plenty of people on this forum chucking out heaps of the stuff every week as they prune there tanks i would post in trade and exchange a lot of people would rather give it to u than chuck it out
  4. there is two axo lols atm , i have 2 small paradise fish which mite go alrite in there if i took the axies out. im pretty sure paradise fish come from shallow rice paddy water not to sure how they would go in 20cm or so of water i know the frogs wouldnt touch them
  5. here are some more pictures of the tank i have in other posts, tried really hard to get gud photo of the bumblebee gobies didnt quite happen. the tank contain 2 gobies and 1 female black lyrtail molly , and an orange (with shiny blue parts) male sailfin molly filtratration is a mix of DIY and fluidised bed some ive posted before
  6. well i figured it out and changed it, found resin pots that look like rocks at mitre 10 bulbous root ficus (grow my little aerial rooted pretties!) s. purpuea and tiny african sundew
  7. had my cf1200 around a year no problems
  8. the females dont normally colour up like that tho and they dont tend to chase ea other like the males , my 2 males are fighting so bad i have to swap 1 for a female if i can
  9. a lot of tropical plants grow perfectly well in coldwater so chances are u will have some of the tropical plants that fare well in coldwater and they will be fine in ur tropical tank . plant them give them a chance to grow if they start dying off in a few weeks pull them out as they die off.
  10. i hope ur not using metal mesh wire metal in tanks not good i have some gutter guard u can have its 1cm sq mesh plastic moss walls look good , with the plastic mesh you can heat it and bend it to complex shapes if u want

  13. http://www.kaotica.com/frag/diy/moonlight/ this is what im talking about, i agree with ira though its more an asthetic effect in freshwater . but u never know moonlight mite have some unknown magical effect on ur plants and fish.
  14. wat thickness poly do u want and how much? i got half a g of river sad if u wantit to
  15. its probably easier to get a home brew 1 that reads in SG
  16. [quote=" And ive only been to Redwood once and it was great although i saw noone working there
  17. u have guppies in there ? wat is the temperature of the tank?
  18. i think u will find most aquarium 1s are merely splashproof , and do not meet the protection standards of the type u can buy as external fittings, so these are not absolutly necessary a lot of shops use normal house hold fittings with the difusser taken off , this shouldnt be a problem if u have good lids on ur tanks

    Acrylic tanks

if i can fins some at my work i will contact u its also very easy to cut acylic with a jigsaw if u are patient , u cant force the blade otherwise it heats up and melts it instead of cutting it this would be fine except it fuses back together behind the saw and u end up with a brittle join that is hard to get smooth again once u snap it. vegetable oil wiped on the blade periodically helps a wee bit
  20. ive got 4 bns and a red spot pleco i have a sword going good in there . its the clown loaches that do the most damage in my tank they like to pull out my sag and my newly planted glosso
  21. i have caught sea dragons (off separation point , the sounds, and in tasman bay) while commercially dredging they are pretty few and far in between apparently there are quite a few around fiordland im not too sure if these are the same 1s u are talking about tho
  22. u could possibly get the carpet effect started really good by only half filling your tank so the plants get more light im not sure what light the AR380s use but look at upgrading it the more the better also remember to use a good substrate when setting up possibly some substrate ferts like JBL 7 balls
  23. i think permission is granted in this case for research reasons stella is writing a book
