  1. They should be ok. The fish are $197 each? Yeah, right!
  2. It won't be backpressure if the pumps are in a series, the lower pump would actually be running at less backpressure than with it pumping all the way into the main tank and the higher pump will be partially force fed water so will be sort of working at negative head. It should work well.

    LED lighting

Yeah, that's right in the same way that color is the same as horsepower. AKA, they're measurements of totally different things. Kelvin in this case is color temperature, mcd is brightness.

    LED lighting

Better to get the LEDs from trade me or someplace like http://www.dpt.co.nz Much cheaper than DSE.

    Pieman

BTW, Pies, Busted! Caught you on the board last night.
  6. IMO, the lagunas are the best bang for the buck. Not technically external though they'd probably work externally.

    Cheap wave maker

Unless they're a slightly different model than the pair I had they max out flow-wise at something like 1000LPH.

    Cheap wave maker

Looks like a hydor aquaflo. They're good and cheap, but not the most reliable and certailny don't handle 5000LPH. I dont know for sure that's what that one is though.

    Pleco....

Looks like a common plec, most likely anyway. They do get that patchy coloring when they're stressed or just in a bad mood.

    pH of water.

Hmmm, I didn't know the PH was fluid.(Hehe, Get it?) I've never heard it depended on temperature before.

    Pleco....

Because most of the people that are selling them are desperate to get rid of them because they didn't bother to find out how big the cute little bitty sucky fish grows.
  12. I bet they're just red and blue swordtail fry and the guy's thought, "The parents aren't red and blue, but wait, the NEONS are red and blue! They must have knocked up the swordtails!"
  13. That was me, I asked for some pics "Because it would be basically impossible for two fish of totally different species and totally different reproductive methods to interbreed."
  14. You'll probably want to put a ball valve on them too so you can take the hoses off to clean them and similar. That was one of the most annoying things with hex that was plumbed through the bottom. If I wanted to try and run a hose brush through the hoses I had to sit there with a bucket shoving the brush up the hose as water poured out and sprayed everywhere. That's with the only valve on the hoses at the end where it plugs into the cannister.
  15. The term "Insane crack monkey" comes to mind.
  16. Poor fishies. I wouldn't think you'd have had a problem with the filter, all I usually do when I forget to plug a filter back in or similar is just give everything a rinse and plug it back in. No problems doing that. At least you'll have some space freed up you can replace them with some NICE cichlids...Meaning South American cichlids.
  17. Fishboi, the filter, I'm assuming, is going to be sitting on the floor, or at least about the same height in either case. So the static head on the filter is going to be the same either way. Changing the plumbing isn't going to change the static head.
  18. There would be no stresses on the filter. As far as it's concerned the only difference is a bit less friction due to shorter hoses, like I said.
  19. Costs more to have holes drilled through the bottom of the tank, less flexibility in moving the hoses around, more chance of leaking. Only good reason to plumb a cannister through the bottom of the tank is to save a little bit of lose length and it's nowhere near worth the disadvantages, IMO.
  20. 1 meter? What are you wanting the cover glass for? Just to protect the lights from splashes? Are the DE metal halides and you're wanting it to block UV? I thought you were talking more like lids on the tank, but no way you'd be overheating the glass and breaking it with the lights 1 meter away.
  21. At the price Tunze equipment usually is I bet it would be cheaper to hire a midget to move the water around with buckets...
  22. No it doesn't. The pump sound from the pump doesn't change at all and the whistling from the valve on the venturi disappears(Obviously)
