  1. So, it's plumbed up so the waste water line is running back to my rainwater tank and it's happily pumping out 2-3 liters per hour. Although, this morning I put my heaters on a single double adapter and it looks like I didn't push it in far enough so they've been off all day. Tank's at 21.9°
  2. Water in addition to the water in the calcium chloride dihydrate?
  3. Contaminants. Probably stuff like calcium hydroxide and so on, I'd guess. Anyway, it'll be pretty harmless.
  4. Whether or not something is funny seems to not bother certain mods at all. Take Wok's post about the otter for example...

    nano streams

I was going to say you could probably get real streams for 690 euros.

    Anthia pic

Because tropical fish cost a fraction as much money.

I have an Anthias that was sold to me as a pink fairy basslet. We named him Floyd.

    lighting k

Kelvin is, for the mostly an aesthetic concern. Wattage is what's the most important.
  9. Same here no problems. Didn't effect my Sebae Anemone or my aptasiasas(Bugger!)
  10. I wouldn't imagine, judging from the thing we have in our roof, that it uses more than 30-40 watts of power max. That would be something like $5/month on your power bill.

    tank design

What are you doing? You've barely even gotten your current tank finished!
  12. Might as well do two or three.

    omg i did it

They're the biggest scam in the history of the aquarium hobby. There's a big factory in Singapore that's pumping out millions of identical white "African cichlids" painting them different colors and then selling them off as different species. That's why most african cichlids are the same size and shape, just different colors.

OH great, another one with african cichlids.

    Stray current

Just doing some tests with my multimeter. With one lead in the tank and the other in my hand, multimeter set to AC here are results... Total Difference No power(RCD switched off): 0 Power on, everything off: 3 3 Return pump turned on: 6.3 3.3 Sump lights: 9 2.7 MCE600 skimmer: 16.6 7.6 2 heaters: 25.5 8.9 1 seio: 28.2 2.7 2 Seios: 30.1 1.9 My DIY topoff turned on: 86.9 56.8 Very definite tingle I don't know if where in the series any item is turned on effects the voltage difference, but I assume it's not going to make a bigger difference than the obvious problems of the poor ground caused between me, socks, carpet and the concrete floor. This was trying to stand in the same place each test. Obviously to a good solid ground would be better, but I couldn't get the probe into any of the ground prongs on any outlets. Needless to say, I've turned my topoff off. I've been meaning to make a 12v relay system for it. Maybe I shouldn't have procrastinated so long. *Heads off to jaycar.co.nz*
  16. They're either asking to get inspected by maf and fined hugely or don't actually have pirahnas. A lot of people have Pacus, they look similar, but aren't.
  17. You don't get them. They're illegal to own and the fine for posession is something around $200,000 if you're caught. The national aquarium in Napier has(Had?) some, but they obviously would be a special case. Anyway, why would you want something as hideous as a pirhana when there are so many much more attractive fish available?
  18. Or I should say, No, if i'd known everything would inexplicably die and never recover...
  19. I've managed to kill off my yellow polyps and my mushrooms aren't happy either.
  20. Mitre 10 mega had some big 100 watt energy saver lights that I thought might be interesting to try. Fairly good price, $30 or something.

    Pond Ice

At 11:45am yesterday there were still 4" thick piles of hail in my garden.
  23. Same as Drifty here. It's at least a 45 minute drive out to get water, so an hour and a half driving worth of petrol, half an hour to an hour of time to collect it, not being able to collect for months because the weather and tides don't match my schedule...Easier with ASW...But, my tank is fubar anyway...
