  1. I was sitting outside in the spa last night at about 11pm (I live in Wellington suburbia) and heard two birds calling to each other which were definitely not moreporks. I listened for a while and came inside and looked up some bird calls on NZbirds.com and I can only conclude that these birds were Little Spotted Kiwi. DoC assures me that this is not possible as there are none outside the Karori Sanctuary in the Wellington Region. I am about a ten minute drive from the Sanctuary but Tinakori Hill stands between me and the Sanctuary so I don't believe for a second I was hearing these from there. What other native or non-native birds do we have in New Zealand which would call at that time of night? There was another sort of a yip yip yip noise afterwards too, (which freaked me out and sent me running inside!) but these were all definitely bird calls I am certain of it. Any clues?
  2. Hi again, I can't find the podcasts on my iTunes but I found the link on the Radio NZ website. http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/thiswayup/chicken/meet_the_birds The first page (Meet The Birds) doesn't have any audio associated with it, but the rest (from Breaking Ground onwards) do.
  3. Simon Morton on This Way Up (Radio NZ National) did a wee series about keeping chickens and it was really fantastic. I can email you the podcasts if you like. Let me know.
  4. There's quite a good book by Peter Janssen called Worth A Detour which has quite a lot of interesting places to visit which are off the beaten track.
  5. Myh fav games (not free though sorry) are Doodlejump and Angry Birds. Both very addictive!
  6. Oooh ooh ooh and in The Silence Of The Lambs when Clarice arrives at Buffalo Bill's house and glances to the side and sees a moth settle on a skein of wool and realises she is in the right house.
  7. Mine is when the warden is throwing the little chess pieces around Andy's room after he disappears and one goes straight through the poster and the look of realisation on his face.
  8. boys are the snuggliest and much easier as teens I believe.
  9. I look forward to them cos my 5 year old will be with me all day and then I realise, what the heck am I going to do with him all day!!!!
  10. I have had him for about 2 years and he wasn't tiny when I got him, he was about 4cm long. He has been like yours until now. I was beginning to think he was a girl. It is worth the wait though. He is beautiful (despite the grubby glass!)
  11. Just wanted to share cos my Red Empress from Alex has finally started to look beautiful. I have had him since he was wee. Sorry about the dreadfully dirty glass!! Any tips on how to clean it? At the moment I have an old visa card which I use to scrape the glass. I have one of those scrapey things from the pet shop but it is only plastic or rubber and doesn't do the job.
  12. Hi there He's good thanks. Almost 7 months old, I can't believe it.
  13. Anyone out there happened to have recorded this series?
  14. I would love to, but I was thinking about airbags, and only the newest highest end Odysseys have more than just the basic two airbags. But then I also am now wondering whether it is good to have side airbags in the back or not! Maybe they do more damage than good?
  15. I am in the market for a replacement for my old Honda Odyssey. I need a 7 seater and I would ideally like a car which has more than just your standard 2 airbags. My budget is around the $15,000 mark. After a little research, the only car I can find which is within my budget and meets the two requirements is a Renault Megane Grand Scenic, of which there are 4 on Trade Me. Does anyone out there have any opinion on these cars and/or know of any other cars which would have the airbags and the 7 seats? I would like to avoid cars like Range Rovers or Landrover Discovery, which I know are mega thirsty and prone to problems. But if possible I would like to avoid a European car altogether as they seem more expensive to fix. We had an A class Mercedes for a while and it was a complete lemon (yes Johannes, you can say 'i told you so'!!!).
  16. That is a frightening thought. Especially in light of all the disputes that have been going on between Craig and his mother. I hope she doesn't start confiscating fences.
