Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try to siphon but if that doesn't work I have a spare canister and I think that'll be the ticket. The tank is going to be in a bedroom so the trickling probably will be annoying after a while.

I have a spare canister, perhaps I should use that. It is the stock filter and it just makes the motor sound without bringing any water up. Hmm.

Perfect. I wondered about having to give it a suck. I regularly do that to get my canister going again if the power is switched off, so no problems drinking fishy water. Love it!

Hey I am setting up one of these. This is probably a dumb question but the filter has 3 chambers, and the intake pipe takes the water up there and then I am assuming it sprays into the chambers through the pipe which goes across and has holes in it, and then flows out that outflow pipe which has a sort of flat end, back into the tank. When I turn the filter on, how do I get that flow going? Does this make any sense at all?

Thanks for that. I had just been looking at the WPS website and have realised there are other retailers selling the 100mm for almost half what they are selling it for, so perhaps it is not so far from my grasp anyway. Yay!

Have you tried the Canon 50mm lens? I am hopefully (finally!) getting a macro lens for my birthday (I have a Canon 400D) (this one http://www.the-digital-picture.com/revi ... eview.aspx ). Do you know if it is any good? Or should I wait and save for the 100mm?
