  2. Silica gel they require drying out quite often... I use it at work every now and then
  3. No, It was fresh as Fish will still eat it and survive but being a breeder, the quality is a little less and there for not as good for the production of eggs You can see the difference in the adults Thing is, you dont end up saveing much and possibly even less because the fry dont grow as well No, I will stick to smaller amounts. I wont mention the brand but I belive that its one of the best on the market
  4. Im not sure but some how I doupt it as the moisture in the small amount of air (vacume sealing) would then be soaked up into the flake possibly turning it to mush once thawed? Far easier and cheaper in the long run to buy lesser amounts
  5. I bought some flake (very good brand) in bulk a while ago. AS a lot know, I dont feed a lot of flake as I prefer live food but figured that by buying in bulk, I would have consistancy in good quality and save enough for a big mac as well. This food was broken down into smaller containers with a sealed lid. I then taped the lid so there was not going to be any air enter and spoil the flake. I have noticed that food smelt more as time went on an I suspected that it was looseing a lot of the goodness. I was correct. Now this flake that is fed to a couple of tanks is meaning that the fish in those tanks are going down hill in quality with smaller bodies and simply not produceing eggs. From now on, I will never buy flake in bulk again. I will buy smaller containers so it dose not loose its value and my fish get the best out of their tucker
  6. just as an aside but very related This type of thing is why its probably best to sell to pet shops and let them do the onselling
  7. would you like to explain to the kiddies what morse code is please Caryl
  8. I get my enjoyment from breeding so I only put java moss in the peat tanks and only mops in the mop spawners What ever you like is fine but java moss is almost a must as fry can hide in it
  9. even worst when you get predictive txt and cant make out what the person is trying to say... I concure, I too hate it
  10. one of the south America specie's name means fish from the clouds http://www.itrainsfishes.net/content/ May even find reference to it in here
  11. in South America some are known as fish for the skys as when it rains on to what was once dry dirt, puddles form and fish majicly appare in the puddles. Now everyone knows that fish can-not live out of water so the fish must live in the rain clouds and fall to the earth when it rains.... makes sence dosnt it
  12. As Tony suggested, start simple with the Blues... yes, I know your from Chch and as such are in Red country but Blues are attractive and easy to breed, Move on to peat spawners later but they are without a doupt, the most rewarding. I have all of mine split at the moment then will move the males back with the females in a couple of weeks with peat. I will let them spawn for 2 weeks before removing and drying the peat and storing it for 3 to 6 months before wetting it and hopefully getting fry to continue into the future
  13. Cost $15 if your a member of another club and $25 if not main advantage is that together, we can keep intouch with what other members have. I have a few specie that there is no way I will let non members have because they are a lot more rare so need to make sure I can get them back if I loose mine. I tend to only let member have them or I let Hollywoods Fish Farm have them. I will be taking a couple of pair of a specie that I am the only one that has them now so they can have a look at them
  14. I also suggest that you check out the difference inbetween a say $10k car and a $15k car... are you 50% better off? Most I have paid for a car/van is $10K except for once I bough a new van, got the same milage and reliability as I did from the cheaper ones.
  15. whereas Im too far away to be able to help, Mr T and Alanmin will be able to point you in the correct direction. First step would be to join the Killi Club
  16. Marty is a member or is rejoining Zev, Hes been a member for quite a few years
  17. in general easy to keep and easy to breed. They can be tail nippers at times and some people have trouble with them jumping so you need a tight fitting lid. Hollywoods normally have them and I know they are getting some in the next few days. Best thing is for you to ask and I will do what I can to answer any questions
