Thanks David It has to be easy (and was) as even I could do what I wanted to do Thanks everyone for all your help

if you use water from their own tanks and with the darker surroundings, they tend to calm down very quickly I find

Thanks I will have a look

Ive been making these for the last 18 months. (I have yet to enter a photo in the POTM comp that was taken with one yet!) I strongly recomend that you reduce the size of the tanks to one that will not allow the fish so much room to move. This will allow you to use a higher f/ number making the sharpness of the shot a lot greater. Keep in mind my interest is Killis so I made tanks that were 150mm high x 50mm deep x 100 mm wide I belive that you need 3 tanks, one in clear so you can add colour to the back by holding the photo tank to another tank (lower f/ number needed), one with white for dark/plain fish and one in black for more colourfull fish. If your serious about it and want the best get a glazier to have it coloured black using the splashback system that is used on kitchens. This is strong and you will not get the different shades that normal paint seems to leave. Also look at the focus that can be obtained by using a smaller tank Give me a yell at some stage and you will be more than welcome to have a look at what I have and I may be able to help you with the glass side of things

Ive taken some shots of a wedding I did (dove release) yesterday The light was very bright so I had my ISO set for bright conditions. As the time came close for the release a big very dark cloud came over and the resulting photos came out very dark Please Mr (or Mrs) photo shop can you help me? I have almost no skill in Photo shop with my only experiance is with opening the program. Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how I may be able to lighten these photos? Please refer to the topic header and realise that it is understating my problem My next night school classes with be on photoshop

Look, comercially, we place the glass flat on a table with a covering on it. In my factory, I use the grass matting as it wont rot with water being on it all the time. My drill is a single sided drill which means that it drills from the "top"side to a half way point, then the glass is turned over and drilled through from the other side which creates a hole that is neat. The other type of drill is a double sided drill which drills both top and bottom at the same time. This also creates a very neat hole. The third method is by using a very slow speed drill (often a old eggbeater type) and useing either a spade carboundum tipped drill (normally no bigger than about 8mm dia) or copper and carbon paste/dust. All methods need to be cooled by water which also keeps glass dust out of the way as well(Silica dust kills you). This method normally creates shells or chips on the edge of the hole. Depending on how its chipped will probably weaken the glass a lot.(keep in mind that the pressure on the hole with the weight of the water may well break it as time goes on) To drill one hole should take you at least one hour and possible up to 2 hours if your using the correct pressure on the drill. Yes, there are going to be a lot of experts (home handy men) that say Ive done it heaps of times and it dosnt take that long and Ive never had a break. For everyone of those experts I could show you at least 10 that have failed. As well as that, the guy that has drilled it and shelled it often wont know whats happened to the tank in say a years time when its filled just 10mm higher. Simply put, the decission is yours, I honestly dont care. I can only offer 42 years experiance in my trade.

I AM A GLASS SPECIALIST WITH 42 YEAR EXPERIANCE you may find someone that is willing to risk a $120 drill for a $5 sale and if you do, get in quickly as it simply dosnt make financial sense

I am a Glass Merchant and have a glass company Your glass needs to be firmly supported behind the area you are drilling Your glass needs to be cooled as you are drilling with running water or at least a dam of water around the area you are drilling If you have very steady hands and can get a drill that is slow enough you can drill it with copper pipe and carbonundum powder but make sure you drill very slowly and have the area cooled. If you put uneven presure on as your drilling (especially when your over half way through) you will "shell" out the drilled hole resulting in breakage later on Drilling through 6mm thick should take you at least 60 to 90 minutes. When we use water fed habit drills in ideal conditions, we still break about one in ten By all means ignore my advise and have fun as I can only offer advice as I see it as a person thats been in the trade for 42 years Not very many glass companies will offer to drill it for you as the cost of a good habit drill is well over $100 and will probably jam up if the glass breaks which will probably damage the drill makeing it totally useless Good luck

Jim I bought a Navman. I liked it But.... when scrolling through, I had problems with getting the page to scroll up. When I did the reserch, either Navman or tomtom seemed to have the best raves. I decided on Navman because of the way they had supported me with my boat GPS (the card had a problem and although Navman only used the C-map system, when the C-map had a problem they helped me get a replacement at no cost) I belive that they have made the scrolling feathure better now but I strongly recomend that you try before you buy. One of the tests would be to look for a common street (say Queen St) but instead of looking for it in Taupo (Im guessing there is one there),look for it in sat Onehunga. Another "problem" is looking for a street in say Onehunga that you know is there but as it may well be called by say Tepapa now days so scrolling is the way to find it. If your going to the Killi Show, I will have Brendas with me as I have had my one donated to some person that beilved they needed it more and couldnt afford one. On that note, do not leave it or the cradle in your van/car as the cradle alone is enough to encourage those poor needy souls to have a look through your glove box after making sure that you dont have to clean your window untill its been repaired.

you will have about a 80-% chance of breaking it

I have a glass company so although related, I cant speak with 100% certianty Several things come in to this Is Bed 3 really a bed room or was/is it a rumpus. This can make a difference to all sorts of other things including drainage. To cut a hole in the floor may well be comprising the strength of the house and therefore all sorts of extra bracing may be needed. Is the extra bed room drawn on the council plans and called a bed room I strongly recomend that you ask a builder locally to have a look with you and discuss your plans with him. You may need to take him to the council to have a look but you may also have enough info on the " Property Bag" that you can get from the council. In definately not trying to put you off, quite the reverse to be honest but make sure that you are allowed to do what you want to do without huge extra costs to make your home comply in the future

Trade me is not interested in anything other than their profit. There have been several complaints about wrongly ID fish and they simply dont care one hoot People that buy from them must therefore have the attitude of buyer beware Simply put, if you buy of TM then your a mug. Yes, a lot do know what they are doing but you wont know untill things go wrong so only you can decide if the risk is worth while or not. To me it is definately not worth while, I will support the LFS

DRINKING LIVE GOLDFISH AT THE BAR TONITE!!

tell you what though It shows the danger of the SPCA Let face it, We will all still post fish, we simply wont say whats in the packet which means the Courier company may well be a little less carefull with the packet. Few years ago, one of the members in the BOI decided that tag and release of Marlin was cruel. Even if you didnt tag and release and killed the Marlin it didnt solve his problem as his argument was with the fight. Nothing more has come of it and just as well as the next step was to ban all fishing because all (recreational) fish are caught by line. I stopped donating to the SPCA at that time as did a lot of people I know of through fishing -
You hit it on the head Some-one has probably complained to the SPCA so they have acted on it? Of all the fish I have ever sent, I have only had one death and that was 2 weeks ago. The fish was very young so may not have survived any way plus maybe that even though It looked fine, maybe it wasnt. The other arrived safe and sound

One of the best ways to eat scallops is to tear open the shell, shuck them and eat raw...I suppose I too am therefore guilty Mind you I also take half grown fry and place them in a tank with King Killis only for them to be chased and eaten live and not humainly put to sleep No I also would not eat a live goldfish but I also dont eat celery either dead or alive. That goes for parsnip and turnips as well. I suppose I will be classified as evil and uncareing? -
other than taking the easy way out, why would you not want to feed live food to your fish? Live food will encourage fry to feed plus the BBS will live for quite a while after you put it in the tank so it stays fresh. I have 1 level tsp per 4 litres in my tanks but I have seen the odd BBS still swimming 24 hours after feeding

ah Another glass merchant Good to have another merchant

no, all the Sabre fins have finished now I belive You never know though as I have been trying som e old peat lately and have managed to hatch a couple of fry from the Constancei. Alan Wakelin was the last with those so it shows to keep on trying
