  1. I am just checking here but you do know that anubias do not get planted in the substrate? They are attached to driftwood, rocks or ornaments like java fern. Your alternative option to a substrate fertiliser is something like JBL root balls or root tabs which you push into the gravel at the base of the plant. This is another type of slow release fertiliser.
  2. Auckland Fishkeepers has one as well but no action on it really. It needs a strong team of interested people to keep it out there. Dunedin Aquarium and Pond Society also has one that is relatively active.
  3. 7.30pm Green Bay Community Centre. Please send reports for meeting and nominations to me by this Friday. Apologies also to me please. Thanks Adrienne
  4. sounds good - the lighting you have is way more than you will need at that depth!
  5. It was going still in August 2012 but not earlier this year when I looked.
  6. It has not been in action for some time. The majority of users were and still are on this forum but did not necessarily have the same name on both. I believe that the site was being funded by a single person so perhaps the number of views vs the cost was too much.
  7. Bubbles are made of air which contains some oxygen. The bubbles create surface movement which allows for gas exchange i.e. air can enter the tank and gases can escape. With a CO2 unit you are pumping CO2 in to the water which will remain but if you have surface movement then it is not as effective as the CO2 can escape your tank. Does that help?
  8. and I hope your delegates will be bringing the proposal to you all for discussion and voting on so the results can be sent to our Secretary within a couple of days of it!
  9. Nice. There is a definite difference when a tank is made with starfire glass. Its like there is nothing between you and the water.
  10. No, thats not what I am saying at all Godly3vil but as with any forum you can take it whatever way you care to. All I have done is answer the questions and given my opinion on what dattofish has asked.
  11. Salt remains in the water. When you do a water change you need to only replace the amount of salt for the water you take out. It is very important to know how much water you have taken out as your tank water also evaporates. When it evaporates the salt remains in the tank. You have 50 litres of water in your tank and you add 50 grams of salt to it. When you do a water change you take out 15 litres of water, even if you have to put back in 20 litres of water to fill the tank back up due to evaporation you only add 15grams salt. Does that make sense? If you are going to put salt in the tank you need to continue to do so each time you water change until 7 days after the last spot is sighted. It could take as long as 3 weeks.
  12. bump!! I have two so far and they close today. Does no one wish to apply on another fishkeepers behalf?
  13. Not sure if there is a difference between a red tail and a red tail giant gourami. I think they may be the same thing but am not 100% certain.
  14. Minimum recommended tank size for a giant gourami is 200 gallons, so nearly 760 litres (please note minimum) so that doesnt leave a lot for the rest of your list. When you say longfin eel what are you referring to?
  15. I also used Dulux Interior Acrylic - took about 4 coats with a roller.
  16. For those wanting a printed AW the process you need to take is given in this (February) Aquarium World. Please follow the instructions as the May edition will be digital.
  17. Albino catfish, do you mean cory? If so they and the sterbai will easily and quickly become dinner. Thats a lot of aggression in one tank and the tank is not that large!
  18. No family pass sorry. Actual conference registration has been reduced from the $60 charged n the past two years to $25 this year and this will reflect in what you actually receive ie morning tea & lunch only. Sunday activity charge does not include lunch which gives the option of buying cheaper or taking your own along with you. However if you give me the age of your children I will see how much the Kelly Tarltons side of it will be and let you know. Also let me know if you decide to remain for the BBQ at my house on the Sunday night. I have done my absolute best to keep costs down which is why two of the evenings are being hosted in my own home. Auckland is not a cheap place to live!
  19. Given that we are unable to get contributions from our forum viewers for the magazine, that the FNZAS whom runs this forum you are asking in prints quarterly, this is pretty cheeky! Your request on here is like one magazine asking readers to go and contribute to a rival magazine.
  20. :bounce: I have received 3 registrations so far  Clubs - please give consideration to assisting your delegates to attend the conference.
  21. I have received a request for assistance from my Pastor friend in Nairobi urgently needing specific vitamins for his youngest son. Is there anyone on here who will be travelling to or through Nairobi or even Mombassa this year who would be willing to take vitamins over with them? If so I would love to hear from you. It is not possible for me to send them, the cost of retrieving packages from the Post Office in Kenya is prohibitive. If you want to see the sort of conditions I am sending them to please look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59540 - the mission schools part of the photos. The photos I posted here are the 'nicest' of the many I took on our travels.
  22. You never know around here Camtang. Chances were that it was a real product!
