  1. Ive got some photos taken when we were there last year if you want me to send you some.
  2. please go to link viewtopic.php?f=70&t=62230 Thank you
  3. Just a word of caution, spawning puts a lot of stress on them, particularly the male. I would hate to see you lose another. I would love to see a photo of them if you can post one
  4. I dont think it is necessarily your dumbo but sounds like either fin rot or columnaris. If it is columnaris I would keep your males away from your females for a good month as it is highly infectious and they may well have caught it through being in the same container. Same with finrot if it was bacterial.
  5. It appears that if you use auto login to begin with you need to log off and manually log back in to access this area. It will be some sort of protection I would imagine.
  6. will do , thanks Yes it works, thank you so much. Does that mean that I always have to log in manually?
  7. Those last two comments need an add on. Please say why you have made them. A person new to fishkeeping may not realise the perils of unsupported tanks or the weight a filled tank can reach on base/stand that is not strong enough.
  8. Unfortunately I am still not able to. Thank you Warren for helping the others
  9. sorted, a wonderful person sent me through a copy of the constitution. Thank you
  10. Is there any financial FNZAS member who can access the members only section of the Fishroom. I have been unable to for some time and despite requests for assistance on this there has been nothing. If any one can access it would you please copy the constitution section and email it to me [email protected]. It is fairly urgent that I can access this. Thank you so much Adrienne
  11. I have been trying to send several different emails to various Club Officers over the last few days however it appears that some of the email addresses we have on the forum are no longer correct. Would you please look at http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?cat=10 and check your club info is correct. If not would you please email me the updated information. Thank you
  12. Tall sword is Echinodorus Horemani - has only been in the tank for a week so will take a while to establish. The one on the right of it is also a red sword. No I am not e.i dosing - only dosing flourish comprehensive 2x per week.
  13. Update as of today - the tank is now fully stocked with the final fish - 5 dwarf chain loaches added. Lovely little fish but they do like to eat the red pine! Pressurised CO2 is on 2bps, pH 6.4. 3 new arcadia plant pro light bulbs added. Got rid of water rose which was not doing anything and also the star grass plus 3 random swords. and a couple of rainbows
  14. Auckland Fishkeepers Association - the affiliated club up here has had a facebook page for some time but no one has really bothered to use it for anything.
  15. I hate to tell you but there is no use adding cycle if you are not going to add fish straight away. Cycle adds bacteria to the filter which aids the cycling process. You need to add something ie fish that produce waste at the same time otherwise the bacteria will die as there is nothing to feed them. Add a bristlenose or two depending on the tank size, they are good at producing waste. Guppies tend not to be the best fish for newly established tanks anymore. Oh, and Aquadude the petshop did not see you coming but perhaps they should have explained how to use the cycle etc a bit more. Did you tell them you were new to this?
  16. If you are buying small discus test. Some of the ones for sale on tm of late are too small and will require this sort of care and attention. Discus do like pristine water conditions hence the reason that most are kept in bare bottom tanks so anything on the bottom of the tank can be sucked up by a water vac. Smaller discus are also a lot more susceptible to flukes etc. If you get them bigger they are a lot easier to look after ime.
  17. 500 - 600cm deep, 50 litres per adult discus if you can do it. They like a lot of water over their heads and swim in the middle water column. Discus can be aggressive and therefore a group of 6 or more is best, 4 an absolute minimum. Pristine tank conditions will keep them healthy and good quality feed. Bare bottom tanks are popular for keeping them although they look great in a planted tank. Regular water changes are essential 2-3 times, 30-50%a week and when really small total water changes each day are required. If you have never kept them before I would recommend getting discus of at least 7cm size.
  18. It is up to each club to decide whether or not they want to send out a newsletter to their own members. For this to happen they have to have a volunteer to be the Editor and make it happen. NZKA has neither an official secretary or editor.
  19. I might have missed it but I can find no mention of a heater nor chiller. The heater is not a major extra cost on your list but a chiller will be.
  20. What are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and kH readings on the tank? What is the pH? What type of filter and what is being fed and how often? Do the cory ever come out to feed or do you never actually see them eating. What is the substrate and also do they still have their barbells?
  21. I have a SAE (8cm?) in my 5ft and added a red tailed black shark (4cm) about 5 weeks ago. No attention has been paid by the SAE to the shark - on the other hand the SAE insists that all the food in the tank belongs to it and chases all the other fish away from the food area. Tank floor is pretty full of plants though.
