  1. My husband and I visited the Sabinyo Silverback troop while in Rwanda just under a year ago. These gorillas are absolutely breathtaking in their natural environment. On the day we headed into the mountains to see them they had come out of the national park and were on the boundary of the potato fields. We spent an hour with them, at very very close range -
  2. If you have two males yes there will be one that is dominant. If you have a male and a female the male will still be the dominant one. Just a reminder, the Bolivian Ram is a cichlid and no cichlid is totally peaceful.
  3. In other words Caryl is saying that the bike shops in Nelson have useless websites! When will business learn that it is the 'little' people who are their bread and butter
  4. nothing around the central city area, all are out in the suburbs.
  5. Just bumping this back to the top as a reminder of the FNZAS AGM/Conference.
  6. Best of luck Alan. I know from experience motel living is not the greatest but the end will result will be you will get your house back and be able to reset your tanks up.
  7. Just a quick message to other clubs and secretaries that Auckland Fishkeepers Assn has gone in to recess as from today. I will let current members know the situation regarding 'joining' other clubs for the new year when I have an answer for them. Please note, the June AGM/Conference will still go ahead. Adrienne
  8. The AGM is cancelled, we can not produce a quorum. I will email all members in the next couple of days asking for their vote on a couple of issues. My apologies for the late notice.
  9. Tank height is fairly important for discus as they like a fair bit of water over their heads. I work by the '50 litres of water per discus' and it has served me well. To save aggression in the tank either a proven discus pair or a minimum of four in a tank will help but the more the better. Personally I would not put them in a tank of this size but people do.
  10. I am assuming from the instructions on the bottle you are using wunder tonic. Whitespot or ich has a 7 day cycle so it is important that you continue the treatment until 7 days after the last spot is seen. After your second dose miss a day and then do a 25% water change and begin the treatment again. So dose day 1 & 3, on day 5 do a 25% water change and dose, then a dose on day 7. Repeat until no spots are seen for a week and keep an eye on it for another week afterwards. It will speed the cycle up if you can turn your temperature up to 28 degrees.
  11. Do you take part in moto cross events or are you still learning? I've had my bike licence for 38 years and we've always had a bike or two in the garage. From my first - a honda 50 to road/trail bikes, CX500 which we still have 29 years only and it still runs, to a 650 and then finally the R1200RT. I have to say that it is a luxury ride. Has all the bells and whistles, headed grips and seats, radio, iphone connectivity, cruise control etc etc. We also purchased new helmets with wireless mics in so we can chat to each other while on the road. My son has inherited the bike thing off us, he has a range of bikes including side cars. His largest was a TT1000. He is often a swinger at the side car races up here.
  12. I use the scooter for work and zipping around Auckland, it is big enough for the motorway! The BMW I go on the back of. As Caryl is happy to tell everyone - I am vertically challenged - therefore I cant get my feet on the ground on it. However I am looking at a BMW800 which I can get my feet down on, but I need to strengthen my artifical hip more first.
  13. When I first got the original tank, which this one replaced, I was given an awful lot of assistance from people on the fish room and also a lot of FNZAS members who do not come on this forum. Some of them are still around.
  14. If the plants start to get holes in the leaves then comprehensive will definitely help. Its up to you really if you want to dose it apart from that although it will add extra minerals to the water column. Just dose at the rate shown on the bottle which is done, from memory - twice weekly.
  15. Swords are heavy root feeders so you will need to keep the jbl balls going as the plants grow. The rest of the plants you have should be fine however you might find the dwarf sag 'reaches' for the light. Reaches means it grows up and becomes quite straggly trying to get the light it needs. Your lights may be strong enough though.
  16. How high is the tank and what is the growth like on your swords?
  17. Better send them to Sophia then. She would be happy to check that the sickly ones are of good quality!
  18. The tank has good lights on it, and they cover the entire top. I have quite big issues with algae on the front glass because of it but hey, whats wrong with having to wipe down the glass every 2-3 days! It does seem to be settling down slowly.
  19. Due to the massive amount of sword growth I have done some rearranging of the tank. The smaller red sword which was just to the right of the driftwood is now on the rear left hand side by the filter uptake. I have completely removed the two stem plants that were there. To the right of the sword is an unknown plant, possibly acuata? which appeared of out no where. I have added two anubias barter and two anubias nana to the driftwood. Due to the height the magdalensis chain sword is achieving I have decided to allow the glosso on the front left hand side of the tank to grow over a much larger area and so the magdalensis will find itself only around the base of the twisted val, the swords and the crypts eventually. I have also added 4 more bristlenose to the tank to assist with the algae on the plants. Pics - ]
