  1. I dont know. My one sort of withered but I dont know if anything dropped off.
  2. its what google calls a flower, looks like my one looked a few weeks ago.
  3. Black out will do nothing for blue green algae which is not in fact algae but a bacteria - cyanobacteria. Three ways of getting rid of it - 1. fastidiously pick off every bit and vacuum up the rest and hope it doesnt come back 2. purchase an algae rid specifically aimed at getting rid of blue green algae 3. erythromicin tablets (human antibiotic) Blackout will not particularly help black beard algae either unfortunately. That needs excel. If you go down the route of using any sort of antibiotic keep an eye on your ammonia levels as it will knock back the bacteria in your filter as well. Cyano is commonly found in areas with very low current.
  4. Black beard algae responds to double dosing flourish excel. SAE will eat it when it is just starting to grow but once established you will need to dose it. Green algae we need more info on. What type?
  5. Reminder - registrations close today. Please see this thread viewtopic.php?f=6&t=62223 for information or go to the home page.
  6. I think he is having two tanks?
  7. so should I take it that you are going to run pressurised CO2 on the tank as well?
  8. Algae blooms can be caused by an excess of nutrients in the water or too much light ie sunlight getting in to the tank. Green water sometimes can be resolved by a total blackout of the tank for 3-7 days, or most certainly by adding a UV steriliser to the tank. Algae in your water will reduce the amount of oxygen available to fish. I suggest you add an airstone. I doubt that your gourami died from a lack of oxygen as being a labryinth fish it did not require as much oxygen as your harlequins. Perhaps a test of pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate would be beneficial.
  9. If you got it from the discus tank its Argentensis (think thats how you spell it) Sword. It was a tall plant, will need lots of root tabs around it.
  10. Was it an established tank or a newly set up one? If newly set up have you checked your pH, ammonia etc? Are there as many hiding places for them in the new tank? Being in a larger tank, if there is a lot more open space, it may be scaring them - you may need to add more cover and/or put more dither fish in there to encourage them to come out.
  11. I have two types of glosso in my tank, one carpeting and one that grows as a bushy plant. Perhaps you have the second. There is no way in the world that this would carpet. Makes a great bush though!
  12. Did you read this link that I gave you last week? It tells you all you are asking. The best way to find out how to do things is research first either by reading a book or using the internet (google works well) and then ask questions if you find too much conflicting information.
  13. All outside ponds are going to get leaves in them, its a fact of life.
  14. He is very possibly just a fat SAE. My one is massive. Its when they stop eating, that you should start worrying.
  15. If it has a pinecone look looking from above then yes, dropsy. Doesnt look too fat to me yet but not sure how far away your photo was taken from.
  16. This is turning in to a repeat of viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9188 As the thread has been fairly recently contributed to I will leave you to read through it. The thing to remember is that different areas sometimes have different regulations or rules as to shipping fish ie NZ Couriers will ship out of some areas, but not Auckland and yet it is supposed to be the same nationwide. Pays to phone and check first.
  17. I use Post Haste out of Auckland. No problems at all. I have used Fastways but it cost the earth because I did not have a ticket.
  18. A reminder to all financial members that the May AW will be a digital version only (see your February AW if you don't remember) :dnc1: The link will be sent to all financial members via email therefore if you have changed your email address since you paid your last capitations it would pay to make sure your club has sent me through the new email address. Likewise, if you do not know if your secretary has your email address please make contact with them to ensure that they do, and that I also have been sent this information. I have emailed and or pm'd a number of FNZAS members and secretaries over the last couple of weeks in an attempt to get details. Responses have been few and far between, so if you have received an email or pm and have not yet responded now would be a good time to do so. A mass of emails with new details right on the end of the month will unfortunately see a lot unable to be processed. Please make sure they are sent to [email protected] Thanks everyone.
  19. Please elaborate (explain) The picture you have posted is of a fish - what is wrong with it, what are we supposed to be look at?
  20. Prazi should be dosed day 1, day 3 and (I think) day 7 to be totally effective.
  21. I cant see anything significant there.
  22. lol the pic is so small I am struggling to see the fish. I can not work out how to make the image larger.
