    Hi

Welcome to the fishroom. Please do not flush any fish - this is how things get into the local streams and waterways. Putting in a plastic bag and giving a good hard whack on a solid object is better for the fish as well, way better than dying a slow death. Then place in the rubbish.
  4. All I can say is - stay strong. It seems like the long weekends are not the best for Christchurch.
  5. I like those fridge magnets! Great pics.
  6. Christchurch forum members, I do hope you and your families are all right. Would you let us know.
  7. trouble is that they will assassinate all your fish as well as the snails if they get hungry during the night. Puffers are best in a tank by themselves for that reason.
  8. My husband and I are hoping to be over there at this time next year. Not sure about the alligators though.
  9. For every photo I publish I take dozens. Its just patience.
  10. You did well. The fish could live for a week without food anyway and its way better to feed less than overfeed. If you overfeed and there is food leftover on the bottom it will cause issues. My pet hate - going away and leaving my family to feed fish then coming home to find cotton woolly like food in the tank rotting away.
  11. Welcome to the forum. I have a planted 450 litre tank with discus, bolivian rams, sterbai cory, ember tetra, harlequins and pygmy cory in it.
  12. Apistos are cichlids. Cichlids are relatively territorial. If you are having difficulties now, they will only increase if they spawn and get worse when there are fry around. Suggestion which you can take or leave would be to get a second tank for the pair of apistos.
  13. If I was your age, yes I would go work in Christchurch. When I was your age I did work in Christchurch, at the Christchurch Press actually. There are great opportunities down there and you obviously have the skills to be able to assist in the rebuild. The climate is good, the people lovely. The bars are still operating out in the suburbs, the majority of the malls are open. There are still things to do at the weekends and you are really handy to the ski fields and the country. You have to remember that what you see and hear on tv is mostly the negative side of things. You could always jump on a flight and go have a look. You can get flights for less than $120 return most days. Even with all the damage in certain areas a good sizeable chunk of Christchurch is either undamaged or the damage is insignificant. If you look at geonet you will see the ground still does shake, but if you go back pre earthquakes and look, you will notice that it always did. Most of the shakes can't even be felt.
  14. Yes, absolutely. No hesitation. I was born there and have been a regular visitor since the quakes and I would happily go back and live there.
  15. Thank goodness - a male who knows what a chopping board is for.
