  1. given how much of the tank I have already had to rip up today to take these I am not keen to do it again but will if needed. I can tell you - it is one seriously stroppy plec, fought me the whole way to get the upside down pic.
  2. Heres to wishing you good luck then. I know how depressing it is when you have the ultimate pair and you can not get them to spawn.
  3. what angle is the best for a pic, and I'll try and get another one. I'm going to say somewhere in the 8-10cm. I got it around 2 years ago I think.
  4. found this - I don't think its the article I am talking about but thought you might be interested http://bettysplendens.com/articles/page.imp?articleid=1040
  5. Bad luck. I can't back up the following statement as I can not find the link on the internet but I seem to recall reading (a few years ago) that pure black fighters can be infertile. Can't tell you why or give any other information but maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
  6. As the title says. Would some kind person tell me if this is a male or female. Thanks

    Help....

Nah - he doesn't live on the forum - he's got two young children!!
  8. Hi re the question with the link to the filter. IMO this is definitely not big enough. I am running one of those on my 120 litre tank and it does the job nicely but I wouldn't put it on a bigger tank. Definitely a sump.
  9. My lighting on my 3 ft tank with the guppy in is an Aqua One 2ft T8 20 watt light - and its about 5 years old (the bulb that is). This is a very very low tech tank.
  10. Hi where in the country are you? You can add your location by using the User Control Panel.
  11. A chicken is a bird however if you look at the writing on the side it says that it is for Fowls, Turkeys, Ducks, Birds ... It should have the ingredients it contains on the label as well.
  12. Nice. I found mine wouldn't eat either unless I wiggled the bloodworms in front of their noses. Mine never ate the snails when I was watching but there was never a snail explosion in that tank so I guess they ate them at night.
  13. not really certain but some sort of Ctenopoma perhaps?
  14. nice John. The last one I got like that went red black and white marbled.
  15. Whats your reason for the question? Heater size in my case is related to the tank size. I would be struggling to get a 300 watt heater in most of my breeding tanks so my answer would be a 50 watt heater. Recommended is 1.5 watts per litre of water.
  16. Hi Supasi Please can you flick me an email ajdodge at orcon.net.nz so I can send you through some pictures of some of the plants you are looking for by bouncing the email back to you.. My keypad is not working properly due to a cup of tea drowning it last week so I can not put in the at symbol for your email address and I can not email you through the forum.
  17. do either of you have any yellow or orange female guppies?
  18. Hi would you please confirm this is still on this coming Saturday the 30th April. If so what time do we meet at the Commerce Club and what time do you envisage it will finish. Thanks
  19. I also got 4 clown loaches from HFF about 5 months ago and they would be a minimum of 6cm + I have another 4 which I purchased about 3 months ago and they around around the 4-5cm. My pH is 6, I run an fx5 filter plus a 6000lph power on the tank and they are growing rapidly. Temp sits around 29 degrees going up to 32 in the summer. My tank is 450 litres. I previously tried emptying the tank right out and bleaching everything but the snails still returned. Nowdays I never see a snail.
  20. My theory (right or wrong) - there is a lack of water movement in your tank and it is like dust sitting on the plants which ime will turn in to bba
  21. wait for the clown loaches - you will be pleasantly surprised. I had 1000's of snails last year and now there are none. Even if the small clowns only eat the newly hatched snails it will stop the population explosion.
  22. :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: hahaha!! You just wait - it will be at least another 20 years. Two of mine are still at home (17 & 19 years) and at the weekends they have friends around until about 11pm for drinks, with loud music etc and then head into town arriving back at about 4am and waking up those who are asleep when they come in. Don't you love children. In saying that you are in for the most rewarding years of your life.
  23. thanks - will see if it is at all possible for me to get over there. I'm not down here for pleasure but wouldn't mind doing something a little enjoyable.
