  1. Time for an update: She started to shed today. Mainly around her head/fore arms And my cats brother keeps sitting on the enclosure cos he knows its warm...
  2. I've kept 4 male dwarf gouramis in a 100 litre tank with no agression problems
  3. Thanks When I notice the fry there always seems to be more detritus in the tank than normal. I think they feed off the little things they find there - makes them easy to feed when they're little
  4. Cool, Thanks everyone for helping
  5. The pair are now in my largest tank (only 100 litres though) and tonight I've seen a couple of baby apistos - they a couple of mms long
  6. I guess I hadn't been aware of the age restrictions before cos i'd always had a parent near me at the time. In the 7 years I've been keeping fish i'd never been asked my age so it came as a surprise today.
  7. I realise that some children would abuse the animals but that is a small percentage of all that would buy fish. I think that 16 would be a more resonable age limit to have - if they have to have an age limit. In a couple of weeks i'm 20 (but apparently I look young for my age)
  8. Just went to a lps & found out that they only sell fish to people older than 18 (or with an adult) This seems rather strange to me. Has anyone else come across this?
  9. Unfortunatly I only have this photo (which isn't much different from the first pic)
  10. Thats what we've been thinking too. Here's another pic just incase it helps. Its living an epiphytic life (but it might not be a true orchid epiphyte)
  11. Thanks for that That first fern was annoying me that I couldn't find the name for it when I've seen it quite a bit, its nice to finally have a name for it.
  12. Hi Guys, I'm doing a project for uni but my group hasn't been able to ID a couple of plants. I was wondering if anyone here would know what they are? and Top side: Underside: And we think that this on is Asplenum flaccidum (hanging spleenwort) Topside: Under side: Any help would be great!
  13. I had fish shipped down from Auckland a couple of times. I brought the fish from the same person both times and they used the same courier. The I watched the first courier run up the stairs with the poly box under his arm. The second courier passed the box over so gently - like he was scared that bumping it slightly would kill the fish! both boxes were labelled in the same way (including "live tropical fish") I've still got all the fish I recieved - the ones that were handelled badly have been living here for about 15 months. No problems
  14. Just thought i'd report on how Sky's first day went. She's been eating some food. likes mushroom, tomato, FD crisckets and mealworms and chicken. And maybe other stuff I haven't seen her eat. I let my birds out for their daily fly around my room. The birds love perching in front of the fish tanks (sometimes watching the fish) and Sky's tank too. Jade was tapping her beak on the glass a bit at Sky. Sky ran forward at Amber and kept opening her mouth. It was fascinating to watch all their behaviours. When they flew Sky looked confused
  15. Not sure, she just opened her mouth and then closed it
  16. Got another pic: She opened her mouth wide & I snapped a pic - unfortunately not in focus though
  17. Its Friday and she's here! Meet Sky She's been checking out the enclosure and sticking out her tongue lots!
  18. I get similar spiders in my bedroom. When it rains more come inside I took my cats into my room last night so they could look out for the spiders! We also get hunter spiders but they don't both me any more. Hopefully i'll get used to the big black ones.
  19. I've been testing out the temps of the enclosure this weekend. It all seems to be going well. Perfect timing for my blue tongue which should arrive this friday 8)
  20. They got really excited for a few hours with the new toys and food. She's the first bird that i've had that i've actually known the birthday of so I thought i'd make the most of it! I moved into our rumpus room about a moth ago. Its about 2x as big as my old room. The birds love being able to go for decent flights every night
  21. They've been coming out to the front more. And getting used to having my camera in their faces
  22. I made Jade a birthday cake today (freeze dried mealworm for the candle) Eyeing up the cake: Playing with her present: Close up: When I got her in June '09
  23. When my GBA babies do that I increase the oxygen in the tank and they stop being at the top. I just feed what I feed the parents. Zuchinni gets them to grow faster but will mess with the water quality if left in the tank for too long.
  24. My rainbow shark is in with 2 siamese algae eaters. They don't fight. The SAEs were good at eating algae when they were young but less interested now they're older. The only thing i've had my rainbow shark fight with was my red tailed black shark. The other shark was in the tank for up to an hour while I emptyed his tank and moved it.
  25. I'm enjoying watching them, but they are mainly staying at the back. Except when my shark decides I need to see them closer he herds them (and other fish) up like it is a game, but stops quite quickly.
