  1. They're 5 weeks old now. Fern spends a lot of time half way out of the nest: Lily with Dad: And Lily and Fern:
  2. Fern and Amber: And introducing Lily:
  3. Introducing Fern: With Dad: And with Mum: Yellow baby keeps poking head out of the nest box, which is what Fern was doing a couple of days ago
  4. Green baby is out of the nest :bounce:
  5. Green bird is a month old today: And little 29 day old: Rumps: Yellow: So yellow will look different to mum. Looks slightly more blue in real life Green: Should I have the nest box up high, or low in the cage?
  6. I've only handled them once (when the other pictures were taken) I'm not sure how disrutive I can be? Will find out the rump colours in the next couple of days (as I havent looked recently)
  7. Amber was preocupied when I was handling the babies - didn't even notice. Just got back after a week away & found 2 nicely feathered birds. Will get pictures in the next few days. I am keeping them - brought a much larger cage to house the family. I think they'll move in at the end of this week.
  8. i'm glad he does, its nice having one of each colour.
  9. Took them out of the breeding box to give it a clean and got some pics:
  10. The darker baby is 3 weeks old today. And the younger one is really starting to look like a bird: This photo also shows the little green feathers starting on the older baby
  11. Jade is handraised, Amber is not. She was the buddy for Jade. You would enjoy hand raised ones much more. My cage ( that was ok for 2) is about 90cm (tall) x 90cm (wide) x45cm (deep). They need to be out every day
  12. It depends on what options you chose (like cage size and what type of bird) My original cage cost $130 and suited the 2 birds well. The cage i brought, which is much bigger was $380 Jade was $110 cos he is a handraised bird, but parent raised birds can be quite cheap (like around $30 i think) I brought lots of toys, to switch around all the time, which was possibly $100 Feeding them is really cheap (seeds, nuts, greens, pellets). I would only recommend 1 bird if you're at home all day and can let the bird out most of the day. I tried having just Jade, but had to get Amber a few months later, for Jade's sake.
  13. Which one? I'm trying to be as non-invasive as possible (but still getting to see them) so I haven't seen Amber feed either of them. I think the older one is getting more food, but I don't want to supplementary feed just before I go away. The babies were practising their 'song' this morning...
  14. I just brought a new cage to house the family in (will be set up when I get back from holiday, and when the babies are old enough to shift) Can see some proper feathers starting to form on the wing:
  15. Slightly off topic, but he is the father of the babies: He'd just had the biggest shower ever!
  16. they're at days 12 and 14. This pic shows how much they've grown, compared to the egg. Eldest bird, with some food on its beak And youngest bird (whose eyes are almost opening)
  17. Thats really exciting My birds seem to have a system atm. Jade is out in the cage, feeding himself constantly. Then Amber comes out and Jade feeds her, so that Amber doesn't have to waste time doing the first stage of eating. Jade occasionally goes in the box, but Ambers the main one. Its funny when they're all in there, because sometimes I hear a bit of a squabble and Jade rushes out of the box. He must have done something that Amber didn't appreciate  I came up with a compromise with checking them. I only look in when neither parent is in the box, this way Amber isn't put off parenting. I'm going away next week, it'll be hard to not know whats going on! I have a pic on my camera, but haven't quite put it on the computer (probably will do it today)
  18. I use it on my clown plec, GBA and BN. It seems pretty stable to me.

    Who has koi?

Was that at wellington zoo? they have a sign to show that they're allowed to have them ( I haven't read it my self, but its something about the legalities of a zoo having koi)
  20. The one at the front i'm hoping will be ino Unfortunatly i don't know any of the parents genetics, but as you say I will find out more when the babies colour up 8)
  21. That yellow lovebirds can have black eyes (well atleast I hope thats correct) And the little one's down is much lighter than the older one
  22. After learning more I've found that one will look like each parent The eldest is 11 days old and has its eyes open: And it attempted to stand up while I was watching (needed some balance help by its head!)
  23. Both babies have black eyes, so neither will look like mum. Having a nap on the egg: The one in the front is 8 days old, the one behind is 6 days old.
  24. Not yet, still 2 babies and 1 egg. I found out that someone had an egg hatch out 12 days after its siblings, so i'm leaving the egg in there just incase. A couple of days I got this pic: The baby lifting its head will be a week old tomorrow. I have some names picked out but waiting on the colouration to show first. Very exciting about your cat
