  1. My bottom dwellers, Sharks, loaches and bristlenoses like them. My angels will have a go at them too and I think my danios try to eat them. So most fish will atleast try to eat it but ones that aren't bottom dwellers won't get a good meal out of it. I usually feed 1 per bottom dweller, but I feed a range of sinking tablets to vary the diet (ones with spirulina and pink ones) I feed in the mornings and at night , shrimp pellets each time. Hope that helped
  2. ok, thanks for the help. I don't do water tests, but I do have 2 test kits which are a couple of years past their best before dates.. would these still be correct? they are still in original packets.. anyway when I'm really bored I have done a few tests and they were always good.. I have 2 filters on each of my big tanks (100 litre is what I call big cos they're my biggest ) and I'm sure they're doing fine
  3. Thanks for the input.. Ianab I'm a bit confused on how to work out the cubic " of a fish.. can you give me an example Also I have a male betta so when calculating his cubic " is it just the body or the fins too?
  4. I've been in the fish hobby for roughly 3 yrs now and during that time one thing I have struggled with is stocking levels. So I thought I'd ask the question "How do you do it?" I end up adding the total cms to equal the total length but I know thats wrong cos 2 tanks could have the same lengths but totally different widths..
  5. Yesterday I noticed thaat one of my giant danios was having trouble swimming. The fish is turning upside down uncontrollably. I put the fish in a seperate container cos he was ending up stuck in the plants etc. And I thought he'd mostlikely be dead by the time I got home. This morning I see that he is still alive but he seems to have a little more control than he did the day before. When I first saw it happen I thought he'd lost his swim bladder. Is this true? And what can be done?
  6. I showed him to my friends and they tried to turn the pic upside down cos they didn't understand how his fins went! it was extremely funny watching them all turn the pic around with confused looks on their faces. lol
  7. there seems to be a small amount of eggs still there so hopefully it will be successful. it would be preety awesome if after 1 week in the tank I get a breeding! its a new petshop on Jackson st. the sea side down the far end ( near hells pizza) there was one other male there, cant remember if he had the same type of tail. he was a dark white colour, if that makes sense. Before I saw this guy I was going to get the other one. I love it , this petshop is a small walk from my house! and they have marine fish too
  8. Last weekend, I fell in love with this guy at the new petone petshop so I had to get him! and today when I got up I saw that he had been at work all night building a bubblenest! he seemed to like eating the ones that feel down , but there does seem to be a few still in the nest so hopefully one it will work out, but there's always next time
  9. I really want an elephant nose fish! But I'm a student so they are too expensive and not having a big enough tank is a problem too... but one day I will get one..... :bounce:
  10. The first time that they spawned I was lucky enough to see them in action and it looked like they were both doing a different thing. I have 5 angels, these 2 have paired off, Would they choose each other if they were both females? That article was very interesting, I had a feeling it would take a while for the parents to raise a batch of eggs, but maybe next time they might let them get into wriggler stage. I think I will get a piece of slate, cos every time they spawn its always on the filter and when I need to clean it out.
  11. Unfortunetly today I looked at the tank again around dinner time, and saw that all the eggs had been eaten since the last time I'd looked I hope that the parents don't eat them next time
  12. Now for the second time my angels have spawned+! unfortunatly the first time the parents ate their eggs before I got up the next morning. So last night when I noticed that they had spawned again I thought to myself not to get too over the moon, like last time, cos I thought that the parents would have eaten them . But this morning I got up as fast as possible and luckily the parents didn't eat their eggs. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I have noticed that between last night with the eggs being opaque and now 90 ( I was bored  ) of them are now white. Does this mean they have been fertilised properly???? If this spawning works out it will be my first ever breeding!!!
