  1. When I was there a couple of yrs ago I went to Eastland Aquariums at 132 Grey Street
  2. I'll be in christchurch in 3 weeks time 8) and I'm looking for a suburb that has decent shops & hopefully a fish shop and that buses go to. Any ideas ? Already planning on spending a day in Riccarton & the city centre shops
  3. Congrats! I often take a peek in my gbas cave. Even when i switch caves, to get the babies, he defends the new cave thinking that the babies are still there . But look carefully..
  4. I switched tanks today. I had a 20 litre plastic, scratched tank for my fighter & gba: To a 25 litre glass, unscratched tank: Very pleased with the tank as i can now attempt to get decent pics of my fighter without the scratches getting in the way 8) (I hope to get better pics than those)
  5. Well thats what i'm assuming happened. He has to stay in the cave for about a week with out eating & near the end he gets hungry....
  6. Had another spawn hatch out today :bounce: 118 this time: Still growing up the last lot, which are about 2cm now. & 4 from the previous spawn which are about 4cm (I left that lot with Edward, who started eating them which is why i only have 4 from that spawn)
  7. I was concerned too, but then i figured that he can make the choice  . It was about 4 days ago & he's still alive so I figure nothing bad will happen. The surface is 75cm x 38cm
  8. I was defrosting some frozen mysis shrimp when I found a fish that looked like whitebait in the cube. So i gave it to Kingston: I'm considering getting a second butterfly fish - Do they get along with other butterflys?
  9. They're still getting on well. Amber is slowly getting used to humans. Every day when i oopen the cage up to let Jade out, I leave the cage door open - but Amber doesn't venture out Every night they have a bit of squabble over who gets the best bed  Sharing their swing: Cheeky Jade: This photo was because every time i take pics of them Jade comes up to the front wanting to get closer to me  .
  10. The two are sitting next to each other & Jade is grooming Amber. So sweet to see
  11. have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=25479 cichlid7's post shows the type i now use
  12. This was last night: All seems to be going well atm. But they're staying on opposite sides of the cage
  13. The 2 last pics are when i put the coconut in a breeding net to save the babies, so its the same hole but the coconut is upside down. They'll go in a 50 litre tank tonight to grow them up in (it'll just have the gba babies in)
  14. They're in the same cage now I had to pick up amber to get her into jades cage. Her beak is very powerful! With Jade being hand raised she doesn't really know what to do with another bird, but she wants to be friends with amber. She keeps on pushing amber boundary line which makes amber get quite aggreesive towards jade. Hopefully they'll settle down. Only time that Jade is really loud is when she's sitting on my shoulder and screams in my ear.... I've got 2 cats. they've kinda slaked the birds one each. Problem with hand raised birds is that Jade is not scared of cats at all and thinks she should be out of the cage even when the cats are in the room. Amber is completly opposite terrified of cats. Hopefully she'll learn to be a little less worried around them (as my cat spends every night on my bed)
  15. Now that i think of it i was told she was a creamino. Last night i let jade out and put her near ambers cage, she started climbing the cage mainly to get to ambers millet spray. But that also got her closer to amber. Now they've touched beaks I think it might have been in a bit of an aggressive manner. i'm hopeing thats normal for when lovebirds meet :-? Not sure what to do with each other: the 'fighting' I'll try and post a video once its loaded
  16. My GBAs spawned again This is the most i've ever got from them. Roughly counted about 70 of them (but from a diff. pic than below) Still in the coconut: With their egg sacs still: Egg sacs gone:
  17. I got two types of plants: for the back left hand corner: this plant has grown in a bit now. And btwn the crypt and the coconut: definitly pleased with how it looks
  18. Thought i'd do a bit of an update about jade. She's doing well. Bites a lot, never broken my skin tho 8) There was someone home during the day, but she go a job so i felt sorry for jade being by herself all day (except for the cats and fish!) So look who i got: I called her amber. She's in a cage next door to jades cage, hopefull to meet up tomorrow. Amber wasn't hand raised but much quieter than jade Amber is only 4 months old so hopefully i can help her be a little tame. I think Amber might be albino? I can see a dark red in her eyes from some angles that jade doesn't have. And cos she doesn't have much of a pigment. its a bit of a coincidence that i've got a yellow one and a green one cos when i had budgies i had a yellow one and a green one too
  19. i got him from hutt pet centre. Mine is with bolivian rams, dwarf chain loaches, gbas, rainbow shark. I guess it depends on which community fish . Kingston hasn't been nipped.
  20. Its not actually val. Not sure what it is tho. Good point tho about that section (i think the net made me forget what the tank would look like without it there. I did have one, that was one of the changes. Water dripped down the back and made it stick weirdly - it looked bad. I think my yellow walls make the fish stand out better (not that its obvious in the pic) I brought it as Cryptocoryne cordata. I think i'll go and have a look at some plants tomorrow 8)
  21. He seems to be. Really good at feeding now that he knows whats food  I've got 2 platies in there (adults) and he hasn't touched them. But their babies might be a different story . I actually got them to provide some live food for kingston.
  22. its a 100litre, 75cm long. Smallest occupants would be the dwarf chain loaches
  23. Some of the fish: Kingston trying to fit a shrimp in his mouth: And Kingston again Bolivian rams: Whiptail:
