  1. Have read many different pages and tried my best to do what they say but I am looking for your opinions. My BN's decided to have babies. About a week ago I noticed the male had let the bunch of eggs out from his guard and they were just lying on the substrate in my tank. I didn't have a breeder box at this stage, so I propped up my catching net and put the eggs inside it. A day later, the eggs hatched so I put all the newly hatched fry into a large net type breeder box thing and left them until the yolk sac disappeared. They seem to be sticking to the frame of the breeder net near the waters surface... is this normal? Also, I was advised by hollywood to feed them some algae wafer, they also sold me a small package of tetra colour granules. Can anybody advise me any specific feeding plan for these little guys? They don't seem too interested in cucumber, although I don't think I gave them much time to find it.
  2. I feed my south american cichlids Hikari cichlid gold and nutrafin flake
  3. pfft! I just scraped a whole 4 foot tank clean the other day, inside and out mission and a half, but so worth it... mmm shiny
  4. Back to the point. What temperature is your tank sitting at right now? Am just curious... As I cannot see anybody else who has asked this yet
  5. I just spot treat with excel, and double dose. Also reduce the hours lights are on. (or turn them off for 24 hours after spot treating with flourish)
  6. This, Have an air pump hooked to the outlet of a power head. blows a nice wall of bubbles across half my tank.
  7. Hi Alan, I think you would want to recreate the great mustang crash of ardmore airfield. I can supply you the kit. Regards, Adam.
  8. The 35% means it will only let 35% of the light through. You would want to use a 5% tint to be the darkest possible. I dont see why you wouldn't want to use window tint, Water doesnt get behind it (like paper backgrounds), it wont be streaky or blotchy (like some painted backgrounds I have seen). Once you apply it, and allow it to fully dry out, it should remain pretty decent looking for many years.
  9. Another good idea is to use a second bottle filled with water as a gas seperator/bubble counter. This prevents any yeast mixture going into your tank
  10. weird, something is causing one after the other to loose colour and eventually die, A third one is now losing colour although it isn't starting to swim funny or anything
  11. Yeah, one of my BN's is bigger than the other, whenever they somehow cross paths the bigger one chases the smaller around the tank
  12. Have done Might as well get some pictures up:

    Greetings!

Hello FNZAS, I'm pretty new to fish keeping, but am learning a lot so far. I have an Aqua One Aqua start 500 (60l), under gravel filter, heater etc which I scored off Trademe established for $90, including 14 Neon Tetra's. So far have only lost two tetra's in the 2 months have owned the tank, to that Neon Tetra disease as far as I know . The rest of them look healthy! Have since added two baby bristle noses which are now about 4cm long each, they grow so fast! who knew such ugly fish could be so cute and entertaining  Also have a baby blushing angel which is my favourite (I know the tank is too small for it, but am sorting a bigger tank out soon) So far I have been reading up on here and also on monster fish keepers forums, everything is very interesting! so yea... Hi!
