Salt is the only additive I ever use in my tanks for treating any fish.
It is fairly safe to use and in my opinion it does more good than bad. And its cheap.
Reddening around the gills is usually a sign of chemical burns of the gills. My guess would be Chlorine.
Does your local supply get treated with chlorine normally?
Wanganui water supply gets regularly dosed with chlorine but especially after large rainfall the council ups the chlorine levels. Our water supply is bore water.
Chlorine in water?
I doubt that residual soap on your hands would be enough to kill the fish but depends on what you use to wash the dishes. Always wash my hands with hand soap and rinse them before putting hands in my tanks.
What were the fish the fish doing before they died? Flashing, Gulping air?
Thanks. I had a look on the net last night but I found it hard to find any websites that have a good list of freshwater aquatic plants with names and pictures. Do you know of any?
I concur
Cories spread their eggs about the tank in bunches of two or three eggs rather than in one large group.
Check under leaves of plants etc. I bet you will find more.
Planaria most likely. A sign of over feeding or food getting left in substrate.
Are they white?
I wrote an article about them in Aquarium World a few issues back.
Once the Geos grow up there wont be much left in the tank.
I guarantee they will uproot the plants. No matter how much space you give a geo to dig it will always dig around hardware and plants. Its where the goodies in the water gather and the geos will dig it up.
My plants in my geo tank are in pots. and still they dig the substrate from the pots.
Time to replace it.
Who know what its doing but why risk it. Heaters , in my opinion , are only good for a couple of years. Yes some will go for ages but I use caution and replace it before it dies and kills all my fish.
Dont keep us in suspense. :spop: :slfg:
the trouble with the mirror is that it will direct the light directly back. Need to be curved to spread the light around evenly.
I played with mirrors. Not a pretty sight. :roey:
@ 45 degrees you will probably end up with plants that resemble my Mothers cooked cabbage.
It will be too hot for them. Some plants dont even like the high 20s.
BUT, you try it and let us know :spop:
