    Bloodworms?

No The are the larvae or Chronomids. Look similar to a Mossie but they do not bite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chironomidae
  2. It will become more of a problem Sophia so if you can fix it it will make life easier. Mine took over within a few weeks and is now a mess. A common way to treat blanket weed is using Barley Straw. You can buy barley straw extract but in your critter pond I would be more inclined to source a small quantity of straw and put it in a stocking or filter bag and hang it in the pond. It will not harm the critters in the pond, infact the opposite, it will provide a nice new food source while its controlling the Blanket weed. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/gardeningadvice/helen-yemm/7597566/Barley-straw-and-blanket-weed-Helen-Yemm.html I have not tried the above yet myself but have been meaning to for a while. That thing people talk about called "procrastination" is stopping me from doing it. Who invented procrastination? Ill get round to looking it up one day :sage:
  3. So with that sized tank you could get away with a single T8 15w tube. Even better would be a double tube fitting of the same size. The stargrass may not do its best with that sort of lighting but definately the crypts would be fine. Here are some examples (these links are for reference only, I have no idea who the sellers are nor do I care(just keeping mods happy :cofn: )) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Lights-lamps/auction-372360110.htm or single tube like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Lights-lamps/auction-372076088.htm and here is a link to my thread about a low light tank I set up to show what can be done with the lights I suggested above. This tank is still going strong although it is in need of some loving attention at the moment. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50880
  4. Also have Myriophyllum robustum, Myriophyllum triphyllum, Myriophyllum pedunculatum
  5. Firstly tell us a bit about the tank. IE dimensions, current lighting. Crypts will survive in quite low light situations but stargrass is a bit more demanding of light. What sort of Crypt is it?
  6. Yes a very nice looking plant. Trouble is finding it.
  7. Use the database http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=962
  8. There is a huge lot more that are banned but are not yet on the database. http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/pests/plants/nppa/nppa-accord-manual.pdf I have yet to get images for the others, so that why they are not yet on the database. M.aquaticum is indeed a banned plant, but there is a lot of types of Myriophyllum around so it may pay to check before you point the finger at them. :sage:
  9. Awesome Ant Leave the heads and they will burst spreading the seeds in the tank. As Alan said, the seeds go black when ready. Mine have been awaiting germination going on three months now. Still no sign of any sprouting.
  10. Ok, now that people can see what I have been doing, I would like to ask Zev if I can borrow her pointy stick and wave it around while asking for a few more images. Here is the database so far. Please, please, bear in mind it is still not complete and I am working on it still. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?page_id=25 If anyone has images of Red barclaya, close ups of some sword leaves( Not just any, I need to know what they are) Submersed Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia , close ups of Cabomba, Red lotus, Banana Plant. Please :smln:
  11. Its Hair Algae or Fuzz algae. Both a nuisance with ambulia as its near impossiblt to remove. Best to trim worst affected parts of the plant and dose Excel. Having a SAE may help but it is not a cure. Good luck.
  12. Bet that wine Isle stank for ages. I used to work at a wholesaler and when we had a single shelf collapse of red wine the warehouse was stinky for about a month. I am amazed there is still wine bottles still standing on the shelves.
  13. These are what Ryan was referring to I think http://www.trademe.co.nz/Building-renovation/Electrical-lighting/Lights/Inset-lights/auction-371365676.htm They are heaps cheaper and you can position them as needed, unlike the prefab ones where you cannot adjust the positioning of the actual bulbs.
  14. If you are going to run MH you need to have CO2 up and running. Without it you are at an increased risk of having a bad episode with algae.
  15. I have a book here all about live foods and it suggests boiling and chopping them. I cant stand the things so there is no chance I will ever try to boil one myself. Give it a go and let us know http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Live ... 0876660936
  16. That would be why no one has.
  17. Freshwater mussels (kakahi) are not suitable for living in containment. They, as has already been mentioned, require very large amounts of food which is very hard to provide in an aquarium. The reproduction cycle of them is still not fully understood, but it does require fish. With the decline in native habitats and fish numbers there is a drastic decline in the mussels. No matter what a LFS tells you, these are not farmed for supply to them. They are sourced directly from the wild. http://www.niwa.co.nz/news-and-publicat ... 0-4/kakahi
  18. NO One is a Cryptocoryne and one is a Aponogeton Two very different plant species. They may to the commoner look similar but they are very different. The name undulata is because of the leaf shape. Hence them both looking similar. And C. undulata Does that make sense?
  19. At that price I doubt the word GOOD could be used to describe them. Maybe a good paper weight, but how could something that cheap compare to something like a Jager etc. Just my opinion. You get what you pay for, and I sure as hell would not trust a $15 heater to look after my $400 worth of fish.
  20. Why Bus, get him on the train. Or even better. Pay me petrol money and Ill drop him back. I need to visit some people in Aucks. LOL
  21. No, this will then make the resolution smaller. So when the final cropping etc is done it makes it a very low res picture. Email them to me if possible Yes I got your PM, Sorry I forgot to reply. I am fine. Adrienne, I will email you now. Thanks
  22. Please people. We still have no images for the following Aponogeton rigidifolia Indian fern Aponogeton crispus Cabomba Java Moss(have some but need more) Xmas Moss And any other plant you have that you can think of. If you are not sure then click the email tab at the bottom of this post and email me. Remember, you will get full recognition for any images you provide.
  23. What plants in particular are you looking for Ant?
  24. `What fish are you refering to? Cories, cichlids, Plecos? I feed Tetra colour bits and Hikari gold Sinking pellets. That is for my Geos and Cupidos. I feed above and Shrimp Pellets to my L270s. I also feed JBL alage tabs for BNs Along with this I also feed live Blackworms and Grindal worms
  25. So Soooooooooo tired. Why oh why do babies not like to sleep at night. I have very quickly learned that I am useless without a good nights sleep. It was something I took for granted, now I really want it back.
