  1. That may be so Morcs, but I'm thinking big!! When I do eventually do my own tank it will be big. Our house is old, nearly 100 years old and I wouldn't trust the floorboards in it, despite that my current tank is right on the concrete piles of the house. I'd much rather have a concrete floor. We don't expect to be living in this house for the rest of our lives, hence why I feel it is easier to go with the smaller all in one type of tanks at the moment. Sure its more expensive, but easier in the long run. I'd rather just hang on and wait till we move into a bigger and better house (one that has concrete floors) then do the big make your own tank project.
  2. Nice. I really like the raised level on each side too! Will keep that in mind for my next tank.
  3. Sure. Love to see some pics. I think I'm pretty sold on the tank. Just gotta get the $$ This is the tank I'm gonna do properly, lots of plants, good substrate with the sand and stuff. Can't wait.
  4. Yes I realise it is better to build your own but I'm not ready to do that yet. One day I will do it though, certainly not in this house though.
  5. I confess to knowing absolutely nothing about external filters.
  6. Would it not have made more sense for them to advertise the room at the full $175 pw? Seems silly to me the way they have done it. Or was it a case of the cheaper it is the more likely they are to find someone?
  7. Ginger cats are coool.. perhaps not for you though. I must say you're being very tolerant about this whole situation. A lot of people wouldn't be! But why on earth were the new flatmates allowed to pay less anyway? Did you state the reason in a previous post?
  8. But other than that no difference between the Rio and the Vision right?
  9. Awww. I don't have kids so never sent anyone off to school but I sure remember my first day of school. I remember being too scared to talk to anyone. And my Mum had given me money to buy a pie for lunch. Somehow I managed to get the pie token, (they worked a system whereby you handed over your money for the pie when you got to school and in return they gave you a "pie token" which you handed over at lunchtime to get your pie) but when it came time to reedeem it for my pie at lunchtime, I had no clue of where to go I can recall wandering around with this token in my hand trying to find the canteen area. Someone must have found me and sorted it out cos I ended up getting my pie
  10. Wow. I can get the Juwel Rio 180 tank locally for $499. And the tank and stand for about $936. There doesn't appear to be a great deal of difference between the Rio 180 and the Vision 180 that I can see, just dimensions are slightly different??
  11. Good point about the curved corners, however I haven't had to clean any corners (curved or otherwise!) since getting bristlenoses! What is the price difference between Aqua One & Juwel? I didn't see a great difference between the two.
  12. Thanks Phoenix. If I was going to go ahead with the Juwel, I would get a custom made stand the same length as the tank. I don't like the overhang look they have. Doesn't look stable. Apart from that I like the square sharp look of the tank.
  13. So less noisy than the trickle filter system? What about maintenance? Do you need to take it out rinse it, replace media anything like that? Good to know about the lights. Definitely want to do a planted tank and have it look good.. not like the current manky jungle I have.
  14. Just been thinking that it might be time to upgrade to a slightly larger tank than my current AR850. I was looking at the Juwel Rio 180. Just wondering what the difference between the trickle filter of the Aqua One and the square box in the Juwel is?? How do they differ in operation and ease of maintenance? And also I believe the Juwel has T5 lighting? I've seen people around here talk about T5's but no idea what that means. Can someone enlighten me please? Thanks
  15. Not really a sign but along similar lines.. there is a building company down this way called "Small Erections Ltd"
  16. The neons should be fine with the tetras you already have. Not sure about the angel though, when they get bigger they might eat the neons? Never had any experience with angels. Again the fighter would be fine with the tetras, but not sure about the angel. The angels might nip at the fighters fins. I wouldn't recommend a red tail shark in such a small tank though.
  17. Thats what I was thinking.. and I don't get it if it is..
  18. Oh no!! Sorry to hear that Jenna. Rainbow Sharks are scaleless as Lindyloo mentioned and more sensitive to medications. So its possible he was intolerant of some or all the medications you were giving him. But at least you did all you could for him. I've never had experience with pop eye (yet?!) hope I never do as it sounds like an awful disease. Poor lil Feargal
  19. Shame about the eye, but good that he's on the mend!! :bounce:
  20. 64WPM 100% accuracy. But thats only because I correct as I type. Guess I would be faster if I didn't correct as I typed..
