  1. I've been thinking about properly planting my tank. It has plants of all sorts at the moment which are growing fine but they grow where they want to grow, not where I put them! I have some twisted val that took a long time to come away. I originally planted behind the driftwood, as a sort of background plant but somehow its migrated to the front. And its now quite tall, suppose I could cut it. But I don't want to cos its all twisty & pretty.. Oh I also have some sort of dwarf sag? too that is slowly creeping its way around the tank. As for the other plants, no idea what they are (LFS doesn't label them) but they are broad leaved plants so have suffered greatly at the hands (or mouths rather!) of the bristlenoses. These plants are mostly stalks all the way up as the bristlenoses have eated all the leaves off. Its like a jungle really. So my question is what are some fine leaved plants that bristlenoses won't eat, and don't require good lighting??
  2. so the can't use the old "a glass and a half of full cream milk" claim anymore?
  3. I have my fingers crossed for you. Rainbow Sharks are cool fish
  4. Ahh got it. I don't eat a lot of chocolate anyways.. but I do like Whittakers latest ad It certainly makes me want to buy Whittakers over Cadburys
  5. I don't get it. What does this have to do with orang utans?
  6. Some of them do. the one I signed up with doesn't. They only do the years you ask them to.
  7. The normal one? M is it? Although I did change to ME because I was told I could. Would that be the reason? What about the likes of bonuses and pay rises? would these make an effect?
  8. But I'm on a salary. Does that make a difference?
  9. Yes I realise that. I just don't want to end up so many years from now having a nasty letter sent to me saying IRD have reviewed your file and oh hey turns out you owe us like $5,000!
  10. I've never filed a tax return until all these Tax Refund websites started popping up offering to do it for me (cos its too hard for me to do myself!) I have a question though. According to Tax Refund.co.nz's calculations I keep ending up OWING money. Why???? It's not something I personally have control over, it comes out of my pay each fortnight! Is someone else stuffing up somewhere?! Over the last 5 years I owe a combined total of around $100!
  11. Are you getting much sleep? Because Codral is good, the Day & Night stuff with the pseudoephedrine in it if you can get it. Its a bit restricted seeing as it contains ingredients needed for making "P"! But the day capsules clear some sypmtoms such as a runny nose up and I find they make me relax and a bit drowsy so probably not good if you're working or driving but the night time capsules really knock you out allowing you to get a good nights sleep.
  12. Errr.. this is what the Earthquake Commission is for. Insuring people for damage caused by earthquakes.
  13. Geonet have upgraded it from 6.6 to 7.8. Thats huge. There was another large aftershock, approximately 20 mins later at 6.1, but it was centred off the coast.. further away so not felt so much. Probably would have created a small tsunami though.. http://www.geonet.org.nz for anyone thats keen on finding out more, or filling out a Felt Report ahh wagonman you beat me to it..
  14. Its possible you felt it in Wanganui.. it was of a sizeable magnitude and only 5 kms deep which is shallow for an earthquake. I believe the shallower they are the more widely felt. Must have been felt a lot because the geonet website is struggling to cope. I'm trying to fill out a Felt Report and its having problems. Says the service is temporarily unavailable. Looks like its gonna be a busy day tomorrow!! I work for Insurance Assessing company.
  15. Geonet says 6.6 and it was located about 90 km northwest of Tuatapere so thats probably Fiordland. Quite safely say its the biggest I've ever felt. heard reports it was felt in Chch. Already had one aftershock that I know of.
  16. Southland just experienced a rather large earthquake. I'm located in Otautau, about 40 mins west of Invercargill. My husband is currently in Invercargill and they also felt it. It was so bad I ran to the fish tank and stood there supporting it while water slopped out of it!
  17. Yeah those Tiger Barbs have been dropping like flies. Only got one survivor now. Assuming the last one was a victim of harrassment from the other. My husband gave me the sandpaper, I have no idea what grade it was, I know it was the wet & dry stuff though.
  18. I use API test kits, find them very good. I bought a new one less than a year ago as I suspected the one I had at the time had expired. Out of curiosity I tested with both kits and compared results and they were exactly the same so perhaps the expiry date just means that they can't guarantee the accuracy of results. Doesn't necessarily mean that they have expired. I also did what Zev did. Tested religiously when I was new to the hobby, now I only test the water when problems present themselves. Its part of the problem solving process. I think they're a good thing to have on hand.
  19. I thought the dark ring was a result of the cooked egg not being chilled immediately after cooking?? I believe this to be true as whenever I boil eggs, I always immediately take the pot off the stove and sit it in the sink and blast it with the cold water. Never had the dark ring appear. Not that I know if this works on fresh eggs or not because I'm not that lucky, but I always roll my eggs to sort of crush the shell and then peel it off, never get egg white sticking to the shell. But then again, this could be cos they are not fresh!
  20. Are the heaters or suction cups new? I posted a query about this a few years ago and was told that it was possibly some sort residue leeching from the plastic used to make the suction cups. It went away eventually and I also saw my fish eating or pecking at it and from memory caused no harm. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13859.
  21. No me either. I only get really random people and some times people I've played uno or poker with once trying to add me.. I don't think so! How do they know you're on facebook from TM anyway??
  22. Don't know anything about pellet fires but I say you can't beat the warmth from a fire. We have a woodburner and a heat pump in our house. During winter, we end up spending all our our time near the fire (kitchen/dining area) as opposed to the lounge where the heat pump is. Only venture to the lounge if I absolutely have to, ie to watch fav show on tv. They sound like a good idea though. Whats the initial set up cost, much the same as a woodburner I would expect??
