  2. I do payrun. You have to pay me to run
  3. Good time to buy too. mortgagee sales + low mortgage rates =
  4. Its cold in Otautau today. Yesterday we woke to a good layer of snow/hail covering the ground. I made it to work ok, just took things a little bit slower and it only took me an extra 10 minutes to get to work. It rained last night but I don't think it has frozen. My husband does the grit run around the Otautau and Winton areas and he was up early ready to grit the roads but turns out he didn't need to. On the subject of shrinking things, I've noticed Cameo Cremes have less creme filling and the patterning on the biscuit parts is more raised/prominent. And Toffee Pops appear to be thinner and taste slightly different
  5. I agree with Caryl on the buddha, driftwood would look much nicer. Is it a plastic type thing with a hole in the bottom?? Because once I had similar ornament (roman columns I think) in one of my tanks years ago. It was about the same colour as the buddha and had a hole in the bottom of it. Soon it got really manky looking all covered in algae, so I took it out to clean it and as I took it out of the water, it the water which had gone in the hole in the bottom dribbled out and it was dirty and stagnant and I think it had some sort of worms in it?? And the smell! Urgh. That thing got turfed. Had drift wood ever since. Love the background though! Looks awesome. Edit: Just thinking, you could create some sort of stone sculpture as a central feature which would look nice.
  6. Yep. Well it did in my tank. Others have stated they haven't noticed any significant change. I added one of the halves a couple of days ago, tested the water last night, pH was sitting at about 8.2. It normally sits at 7.0. I've taken the pot out now. Lost a tiger barb last night, not sure if it was related to he change or not but not taking that risk. Will have to find something else to make hidey holes with.
  7. Beautiful photos (I recommend turning off the date stamp though!)
  8. got tears running down my face.
  9. they are just terracotta clay flower pots, non-glazed.
  10. No I wasn't talking about water discolouration, I was talking about the high pH is has created, turns out its not exactly an accurate test as I tested in a much lower volume of water! Guess the driftwood would help buffer it. I have driftwood too so.. might be ok.
  11. Interesting results from the pH test. It was water taken from the tank it tested at 7.0 last night before pots were added. Just now after pots have been in there for nearly 24 hours... sky high pH readings! Off the normal range chart and possibly even off the high range chart (water turned pretty shades of blue and purple!) I am wondering though if the volume of water used will have any effect on it? Tank is 150 litres and the container I tested the pots in was only a 2 litre icecream container with less than 2 litres of water in it. Guess all I can do is add one of the pots and keep an eye on the pH.
  12. I was wondering that myself. The Yoyos appear to me more likely to dig than the Zebras. To be on the safe side I think I think I will sand down the edges :
  13. The cardinals look cooool. (think they are cardinals!) The water is so clear, plants so lush...
  14. Lucky I got 2 just in case I didn't get a good break out of one. First one smashed to bits.. second one my husband weakened with by scoring a line around it and it broke perfectly in half. I've done what you did Silva. I took some tank water and put in a separate container, tested the pH, then put the pot halves in and will test again after 24 hours to see if there has been a change in pH.
  15. Errr not exactly. He was interested in the new additions for sure, but Zebra harrassed one of the yoyo's so much he lost his yoyos. He was visibly stressed, virtually lost all his markings. I think it was just cos they were new, they seem happy now.
  16. Yeah I wanted a ghost knife until I researched them a bit more and decided it wasn't the best idea at the present. They are very cool fish though. Tis a good idea to research the compatability of fish as well as what tank requirements and water preferences they have. Of course some LFS's won't advise you on this because a) they themselves don't know or b) are just there to make a sale so will tell you everything can go together. I know they did that to me. Thats how I ended up with a Rainbow Shark in a 34 litre tank Sounds like you had a Rainbow Shark. A rainbow shark would probably be fine in your tank. I have one, he's quite territorial, but has never caused too much stress or any damage. Just provide lots of hiding spaces. Better to have large tanks, I found mine was a lot grumpier when he was in his little tank.
  17. Is your tank planted? Because bristlenoses will also chow down on your plants as well as the algae. Mine do.. but still, they do keep the algae under control. And I don't think they eat BBA. I have a fair bit of that in my tank.
  18. Ghost Knife fish grows quite large apparently approx 50cm. It will also eat anything it can fit in its rather large mouth. That means your tetras. And probably Kuhli loach. Maybe even the corys. Tank mates for ghost knife fish are also recommended to not be fin nippers, so thats your Tiger Barbs. Mollies like a bit of salt, not sure how well that will go down with the loach/es I suggest putting more glowlights in, they really are quite cool little fish. I have some myself. I think a big group of glowlights would look really good schooling together. Or more Kuhli loaches, its recommended they are kept in groups of at least 6, apparently they are supposed to be less shy in groups.
  19. I hear if you eat the neon you get real drunk
  20. Yeah I saw that post so am aware of that. The pots I've got are just unsealed terracotta flower pots from a garden centre. They have a hole in the bottom, I'm planning to break them in half though. I'm thinking that I can just bury the broken sharp edge of the pot into the gravel??
  21. Kids are so spoilt these days. I never got to go to our school ball, because the year I became 6th form the school changed the rules on us only allowing 7th formers to have a ball. Before that, they used to have a combined 6th-7th form ball. Ahh well.. my parents probably wouldn't have allowed me to go anyways..
