  1. Take them out And no not a dumb question, at least you asked first to be on the safe side
  2. My way of thinking is.. if they are not imported with a variant as such, then they are just straight "Julidochromis transcriptus", no known variant.. would never even begin to label them a certain variant when it isn't known... The same can be said for marlieri if it has not been imported with a variant.. Definately dangerous to label a fish something when there is no certainty :-?
  3. The Julidochromis came in listed as "Masked Julidochromis", no particular variant listed as Frenchy stated.
  4. I used to have a nice size breeding pair... they are great little creatures to keep.
  5. Can get up to 7-8 inches... Tiger Barbs should be ok, (however Tigers should always be kept in reasonable size school, to keep aggression amongst themselves otherwise they can be fin nippers towards other species) Fine with Bristlenoses
  6. It is a Hoplo with a deformity..
  7. Very nice Paul Will be nice to see the plants a little down the track to
  8. The males that came in were under Blue Johanni, never Golden.. the Golden Johanni that have come in, have been all females (supposed female Johanni, hence why they call them the silly "Golden") but they were terrible quality, possibly hybrids somethings..... I had seen the lists and what they were listed as. The stuff that came in as Blue Melanochromis however are a different story. Did you mean horizontal banding Ryan or vertical?
  9. Yeah instead of importing them as Male Johanni and Female Johanni, they bring them in with this fancy name "Golden Johanni" and then Blue Johanni. Shame they just can't stipulate Johanni (male/female)...
  10. I think possibly the confusion there was that ages you had posted on a thread I started on J transcriptus and you had said about having 50 J's in a tank and it worked for you, so it was easy for Frenchy to have thought you were referring to J trans, since it was a J trans thread.
  11. Oh and here is a poor shot of one of my males, who had just had a tank change so he had gone pale at the time around settling in time.. his colours are normally bold and really outstanding... Will get a better shot of him tomorrow, he's a bit bigger now and beefier..
  12. Here are a couple of pics of one of my females (holding) She is a major nympho, and after that batch I had to put her in a tank of her own to condition back up again, otherwise she will just produce non stop
  13. Can get some pics of my guys in the next couple of days... my stock don't come from recent imports... old stock.. Some of the recent stuff I have seen that come in as Gold Johanni (supposedly female Johanni) have very bad vertical banding and of poor quality... hybrids maybe? Have a pic already of a female of mine holding.... will post that up in a tick and will then post pic of male tomorrow

    Plecos galore

Oh wow, thanks for sharing supasi, so nice to see them in the wild!
  15. What sort of info do you need on them Tropheus?
  16. The stripes do darken up when there is dominance being displayed... We only keep the Dumerilli Angels... we have 4 in a 5ft planted tank.. and note that the less dominant one lightens.. the dominant always shows his full colours.. SpidersWeb is right, they can lighten with stress.. I find at times that the non dominant in the tank lighten when there is a bit of a power trip going on  Most of the time tho mine show their stripes nicely when the tank is settled, but as soon as there is a stir up, you soon notice who is top dog..
  17. They are a very cute fish snookie.. do you know if they are actually kept in NZ?
  18. Oh awesome that Ron came up with the measurements Because ours are modified there was no way I could measure ours.. Good stuff, perfect fit then
  19.   Will be keeping an eye out for your thread that's coming on
  20. We have the 2400 range, and the bends are the same size as the 2200.. we had to modify our ones as our bracing is 100mm...  I also think 65mm would be fine, but pushing it at 70mm...
  21. I would just stick with Africans in the higher Ph range... about 8.2 would be fine and dandy... but keep your Geo in acidic conditions...
  22. Oh OUCH, Hatchets would be a nice scooby snack so ummm maybe not then snookie.. I take the hatchet idea back if this is for your large Barb tank LMAO    Apollo sharks are nice, hubby had some at his work ages ago, however, beware, they are fab jumpers! You can't even turn your back through a water change, only to turn back and find a flopping fish on the floor, happened more than once to

    aro

Yeap Our 8ft tank cost us $900 inclusive of stand (a real steal).. double thickness 10 ml bottom to.. beautiful job, made from a top knotch professional tank maker. Tank prices and stands will vary from place to place... We have 2 x Aquis 2400 external filters running on the tank, excellent filtration.. We have 4 x 4 foot lights on the tank, however, this isn't an Aro tank, noticed what sharonpaul said, their guy doesn't like too much light... Not sure if that is a typical Aro trait? Then there is substrate, depending on what sort you want to go with, prices vary. Heaters, we run 2 in the tank at the moment, soon to be a third added. Roughly it would cost.. break down... 4 x Lights = $400 Heaters x 3 = $111 2 x 2400 Aquis Filters = (special was run on them).. $560 for both... however this was with promotional special running... Tank and Stand = $900 $1971.. for the above items.... Cost us well over $2000 inclusive of substrate and fish... So that is just a rough guide... Would differ from person to person on what they spent.
  24. I agree with IOU1.. Hatchetfish are great little surface dwellers and look great in a school Oh and a lidded tank at all times to  However, would the top dweller have tank mates, and if so, how big?
