  1. Yeah you are right, it is not the possum fault, it is ours... however, the above points you have made have nothing to do with what I stated... I said that I realise they are a pest. However.... considering it has been kept already and here is someone looking for an appropriate responsible home.. then the points about axing it etc I see as uncalled for really, when the thread was started in the first place by someone who is asking if anyone out there is interested in taking her on, not asking for peoples negative comments... I would never keep one as a pet, infact I'm against the idea as I do believe that they are a pest to NZ.. yet I also am not insensitive enough to suggest some of the measures that have been stated. Would be great to see the possum go to a licensed zoo or something.
  2. Even tho they are a pest I hope you find a good home for her. I think it is pretty sad some of the suggestions from people here on this thread, especially when people can see how close you are to her and how much you love her. .... My mind boggles...
  3. Frons are the best african out I reckon to watch grow and mature... totally amazing.. keep us posted with pics 8)
  4. My fav cichlids book would be my jumbo hard cover book on Lake Malawi Cichlids... AD Konings... Just a brilliant book and with beautiful photography... 8)
  5. Good stuff 8) We have alto comp in with ours... however our Leleupi and J marlieri came out of our 8fter eventually and put into species tanks... we have Neolamp trets in the Fron tank and they do exceptionally well. I find the alto comp and leleupi took great delight in annoying each other...
  6. Bet ya can't wait to get that tank humming
  7. What do you feed the frons and tropheus Johannes? 8) Do you find it hard meeting individual requirements being housed together in same tank?
  8. Awesome stuff livingart... better luck next time 8)
  9. We have: An English Bull Terrier (yep like the one off Babe - Pig in the City) And we are soon to get another... 8) An Ocicat - Asriel Fluffy dark Ginga Moggy - Sweep Grumpy looking Tortie Moggy - Oska Heaps of fish.......... inside and out and in fish shed!! Bearded Dragon - Albert Alexandrine (Bird) - Wilbur 2 x Rats (2 males) (acquired through someone going overseas) 2 longhaired Mice - Cracker and Biscuit (both girls)
  10. I have scooped a few fresh water shrimp down this way... quite a few lulling about in a local stream... when you go on a clear night with a spot light you can spot a fair few! Have you tried a local stream down your way?
  11. How ridiculous  How long have Blueys been here and MAF now start to throw their weight around about them?? Gee if they were that concerned you would think they would have done something about them ages ago... Hmm I would hate to think the amount of damage cats have done to our native wildlife... natural born killers vs scavengers, I know which I would prefer...
  12. Just a query... how many different species of snapper are there, I only thought there was one?
  13. Sajica can also be fair little dare devils  We have a pair in the lounge right now digging a pit to breed.. it's taken them 3 days so far to make the perfect breeding ground
  14. I agree Tropheus, we can only stick to the names that they are imported as.. there has been too many cases of people getting fish and then seeing a pic that may resemble a peacock and then suddenly it gets named that particular variant because it looks like that fish that they just spotted on joe bloggs website... we all know how peacocks are so hard to ID via photos, they can look something totally different in the flesh compared to what the same species may look like in a photo.
  15. http://www.cichlidforum.com Go the the Profiles section... take note tho, there are rather a few species that we can't get in NZ... :-?
  16. Hmmm well gee a nice colony of africans maybe.... Maybe some gorgeous Tanganyikans... or a nice colony of smaller species Malawi like Demasoni....
  17. The supposed royal blues that have come in on the wholesalers lists from time to time have not come in with a scientific name neither a variant... just straight common name "royal blue"... The ones we had from imported look exactly like living arts... apparently stuartgranti family... Short of a fish coming in with a definate species identification (variant type), I then cannot see how people can go labelling definate variant type. JMO The trouble is, some importers will take a bundle of fish from NZ breeders if they do have enough of them... Hubby has at times rung the main african fish importer at times with certain species to ask if they are infact imported or have been bred locally ie in NZ. As you never know with many aulonocara what to trust and what not to trust when people are breeding them in mixed tanks But then we are also relying on honesty of the exporters overseas...
  18. I don't like my females holding for long as they lose too much condition... I find most species of peacocks that we have had, the mothers are brilliant... and over mother their broods, hold on to them for donkeys if they could that is why I don't like the idea of leaving them in a tank too long holding and also they can end up getting harassed by the males.... so we strip the fry and raise them in a seperate tank and that way the females can resume back to noshing down and picking up in condition again. I guess in the wild, females can just turkey off and find a quiet place to relax and protect their brood.. yet in a tank there is just so much space they have to travel in.

    Blue Acara

There are young Blue Acara on a wholesalers list at the moment.
  20. Yeah I think you are right there firenzenz.. 8)
  21. Oh Navarre... I am so sorry of your loss... yell out, I may be able to replace some of those fish for you if you are keen...
  22. When I mentioned blue straight away, the blue was the dominant body colour and a dark blue, there was no sheen of light yellow to orange across the back below dorsal area, or the very obvious red shoulder, that was all. They were evenly coloured.
