  1. Go the platty!!! I kinda like the water yellow.... Freaks ppl out.
  2. Would love to see pics once it's set up. :bounce:
  3. With rocks and driftwood boil, boil, boil, boil. Plants aren't so easy but from now on I will be soaking all new plants I get in "Snail rid". In fact the plants I have will be soaked before hitting my fish room (once it's finished). With fish it never hurts to quarantine when you first get them. Edited to add: If getting fish from the wild you should ALWAYS quarantine and a quick salt bath may help reduce the chance of introducing external parasites into your tanks.
  4. The link Zev posted has advice for getting rid of them... don't know if this helps.
  5. If the pregger guppy has boys that look like the one with the pink I'd be interesting in buying some in a few months
  6. LOL Just obsessive me thinks.... *Goes back to sifting through google results*
  7. I'm interested too... personally I'd put some male guppies and some male hi-finned platties in there...oh, and a bristlenose
  8. Love the guppy with the pink in the tail... be careful guppies are a very dangerous thing - if you get too attached you may have to build a fish room or 2 for them! My first guppies (in my first ever tank... last July ) survived the cycling without issue. The tank looks really good btw.
  9. But birds with big big eyes would look cool... would big big eyes mean small small brain??
  10. I've thought about it but I can't really do so without restricting tank access. These stands will be placed on 5cm high lengths of wood, the bottom shelf is 13cm from the ground and I'll be adding at least 1.5cm of poly so it will be at least 19cm above the floor at the base of the tank. (5+13+1) Also the low tanks will be grow-out/holding tanks and I will be setting them up with undergravel filters so there's another 2cm or so. If all else fails I don't mind sucking to get it started, if I do get a mouthful of fishy water it won't kill me.
  11. So I walked down to Mitre 10 on Friday after work "Just to price some things out". (Yeah right - get me another Tui mate. ) I don't really own many tools so it was a good excuss to buy a sliding drop saw. (It was on special and if I'd bought something cheaper I'd have had to buy saw horses etc so would have been around the same price ) I also got the irrigation hose I needed for my air line and a pile of fittings (elbows, T-intersections, end caps etc). They even let me borrow a trolly for the 2 block walk home... lovely people. I've painted *most of the wood and started putting my frames together (I've worked all weekend which is a pain. But I've found time here and there.) As I'm using "5-level" kits to make 3-level units I've used all of the extra metal plates for bracing. However I needed a break from my mess so thought I'd come update my progress.
  12. The gills often seem more red in my Blonds and albinos and I've had females looking like that after giving birth. Some come back from it... some don't. Still, better to be on the safe side. See how you feel about your new guppies after watching them for a week or so in the Q tank. I'd trust your instincts on this one... you seem to be doing everything right. Do you add tonic salt to your water for guppies?? You'll find that a lot of pet shops do (if you ask) so I always make sure new guppies have tonic salt in their water.... if you don't like salting you can always slowly reduce the levels by doing small daily water changes and topping up with water from the tank they're going to end up in. That way they'll be less stressed when you move them.
  13. From what I've been reading (mainly American sites but their importing rulse are so lax) anywhere from 10-30 days, longer is safer. What sort of fish were they? What was wrong with the other one in the tank. These things and the size of the Q-tank in relation to the fish are all important.
  14. Maybe it's short for "Pea is nuts"?
  15. ...... I love my LFS. Small, family owned business. Good honest people. Know their fish, love their fish, respect their customers. Wish there were more around like them.
  16. You have my shopping list Jim. Anything close to a soild colour (Red, Blue, Green) yet? Or have you been to busy to look?

    Is this okay

    It may have worms.
  18. LOL we never got one of the door hinges right on my Jebo R-362.... Door is no longer attached.
  19. rcon021 you'd need over 100 tanks for that!! What I'm doing is keeping the fry from each of my Albino ladies seperate and (Hopefully) I should get a male from each. Cross those males back to differant albinos and go from there... at least that's the plan. The hope is to get 3 closely related lines going and then outcross line 1 and cross back to line 2 while keeping line 3 pure... Then outcross line 3 and cross back to 1 while keeping 2 pure etc... Devon, if you want to put me on your MSN I'm happy to pool ideas.
  20. Clicked on link to see if there was a photo yet and guess what?
