  1. Unlikely. If you want to breed them keep them in a tank where they're the only cave dweller. My BN's are breeding in a tank with platties and guppies. [3 Breeding tanks in one ]
  2. Okay so what is a good glass cutter and where do you get it from? The ones at Mitre 10 don't have oil in them. <> Can you just put oil on the glass and what sort of oil are we talking here? Are we talking like the oil that goes in cars or like the oil that you cook with? What is the best way to clean the glass? How do you get a nice edge once you've cut it? See, I really don't know much on this topic.
  3. I was just wondering if those of you with experience would be able to put a few tips here for ‘virgin’ glasscutters. I keep seeing threads about fixing and making tanks which are full of useful advice and interesting debates about silicone etc. but nobody ever seems to talk about how to actually cut the glass. As a ‘virgin’ glasscutter I would greatly appreciate it for future reference. Cheers, KA
  4. There is a Sallys one that says "safe for Aquariums" I know a few people that use it. Never used it myself as I don't make my own tanks. Joins Mystic in the "No worries" dance.
  5. Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh Leopard Fish.....
  6. Rozski - my platty grow out tank is quite highly stocked as you saw when you came over. It has a UGF over 1/2 of the base and no other filtration and only gets water changes every 2-3 weeks. *It should be noted that all the tanks in my fish room are run off of a really strong pump. All of my UGF tanks have high water movement.
  7. LOL - it is all females isn't it.... does your wife know??
  8. /KA jumps onto the list of happy customers. :bounce: The 8 I got from you are all happy and well. :bounce:
  9. Okay, after many attempts at counting I think it's safe to say between 15 - 20 babies. Every time I try to take a pic they just come up as white & pink blurs.... but then I only have a low res pxt cell phone. Hopefully I'll be able to get some decent photos in a week or so.
  10. From the pure albino female MRSkz found me and the pure male Antwan found me.... waiting for the crosses to drop.
  11. They are a lot smaler than normal guppy fry.
  12. They're very small for guppy fry... feeding microworns, Paragon "Liqui-Fresh" and JBL "Nova Baby" 1 atm... brine srimp culture started.
  13. Yes, I believe there is one. Check on the FNZAS clubs board. Also you minght want to be alittle more specific about your location... "NZ" doesn't exactly help us to help you considering that this is a NZ board and most of us are form NZ. Put the city/town you're in or the one closest to you. No Probs on the thread jacking. Alan - yes the mother is out... no way I was letting her have "Baby snacks" Good thing I'm not working today.
  14. *Keri Anne sits happily in her fish room watching the fishies swim and listening to the filters bubble.

    Rocks...

Avoid the volcanic rock if you can as it 's known to be high in iron which can be harmfull to fish.
  16. Never had in issue with UG filters... in fact I got my first one to fix an issue due to another type of filter not pulling its weight.
  17. They were born some time between 9am and 12pm today. I don't know how many as the tank they are in is almost totally packed full with Java moss and indian fern. I have tried to photograph but to no sucess at this stage. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  18. Hi-finned Platties was a real bonus for me... I got this really pretty hi-finned male -a lemony Yellow colour with an orangish/pinkish dorsal and matching dots just below it. He lived in the comunity tank for a while then I decided to add him to the breeding tank and see what happened. 4 months and nothing... one day I found him dead and I was so sad as he was such a pretty boy. Never seen one like him before or since. About 2 months later I noticed one of my young blues had an "odd" fin. Not quite Hi-fin but not normal... a little searching and I discovered a few more blues like her. A week later I noticed it in a red wagtail. Given time, enough tanks, some clever selective breeding and a bit of luck I might be able to create something like him again. He is gone but he has left me a wonderful gift. I know that many may think "Oh, it's just a platty." But he wasn't to me, he was special. And in these other fish I have a part of him still. So - to those of you who think "Oh, I'm only breeding easy fish" just remember this: Breeding any fish is an incredible thing. Some may be harder than others but all are able to bring the same joy.
  19. Sad to hear Devon... they tend to do that. Good luck with the fry.
  20. That's no good Pawz If you're ever up my way PM me and I'll do you a deal on some normal looking guppies that carry the albino gene. (Mother was albino, father was an orange blonde)
  21. Wow Billarny!!! That is SO COOL!!! *Keri Anne now has more reason to want to buy fish off of Billarny. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  22. Thank you Peter, I'm having a great deal of trouble finding info on guppy DNA. Any books etc you could recommend?
  23. Do they have both males and females? Are they line breed? Can you ask them if they'd ship to Naiper and how much?? Would be really cool if you could give them my e-mail and ask them to e-mail me some info. [email protected]
