  1. 3 lines huh? Sounds like sound advice... would you be willing to share an outline of the breeding program you use?
  2. David at AquaFever was also very helpfull but I don't know his username here.
  3. LOL Alan - that's exactly what I'm doing. It's a baby version of the one in Bruce and Julie's Fish room and I'm mimicing their airline setup. Shiuh talk to you LFS they should be able to order one in but depending on how many tanks you're running you might need a stronger one. Bruce knows them well and I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping you out if you PMed him. I basicly told him what I was planning on doing... how many tanks etc and he gave me a few options and prices. I've also found Warren very helpful if you can pin him down.
  4. Depends how many tanks you have.... I'd do both. Keep the males but work on a backup line.
  5. I just hope some newbie doesn't get conned and get put off of fish-keeping for life.
  6. Okay, I posted one of the questions - who posted the other?
  7. Well she gave me 6-weeks notice 7 weeks ago... I'm not trying to be pushy but she set the time frame...
  8. Call me a skeptic but I don't believe it.
  9. You've got the bug as bad as I have. I agree - as frustrating as it is the outcross is most likely a good thing.
  10. I've got some serious line-breeding in mind for my guppies and my platties. Also a couple of swordtail lines I want to pursue. Add to that the fact that I own a breeding pair of Angelfish who’ve never been given the chance and I’ve got some bristlenoses I want to try breeding and I’m not sure if 20 tanks are enough. LOL. Will be investing in tank dividers further down the track to maximise what I have.
  11. Okay update: Flatmate moves out on Friday morning so I get to get in there with a tape-measure once I get home from work. :bounce: I've had lots of suggestions on air pumps, as room is right beside my bedroom one of the deciding factors was noise level... eventually decided on a Sonic P-45. Now every time I go into a pet shop I want to look at how their airline is set up. LOL! I've gone with the stands that Billarny suggested but will add extra bracing. I was going to buy some 2x4's to make a base for my stands but thanks to my boss I'm going to be getting some wood for free. I've got 20 of the taller Brooklands 2foot tanks lined up in my hallway ready and waiting. Arrived Monday and trust me it was a mission getting them all home. (Did you know they're imported. ) Bought a 67m roll of airline off of Deco City Pets yesterday. (I'm sure I'm driving Julie and Bruce crazy with all of the questions I keep asking them. I'm down there at least 3 times a week lately.) And they’ve given me a good supply of poly. But I still need more so will go hunting for some next week. Heaters, lights and irrigation hose for my air supply yet to come but all systems are go at this point. Everybody has been so helpful and supportive that if I did a list of thank-you’s I'd be likely to leave somebody out and I don't want to do that.
  12. I use cycle if setting up a tank and I also add some if doing a large water change or if I've had to remove a sick or dead fish.
  13. Big hugs for Caryl. Pitty you're not in Napier - I have 20 new 2foot tanks stacked up in my hallway waiting for me to get started on my fish room this weekend. If you were close I would have happily lent out a few while you got things sorted. Good luck and keep smiling. At least you have some babies to comfort you.
  14. Yes PJ I have those females - they're settling in nicely. They haven’t dropped yet. (They are separated from the others.) When I got my first lot they looked as if they were pregger but in 3 months I never got an albino drop out of them – they’d fatten up a bit then loose it over and over without giving me a single drop. They seemed 'happier' once I put a male in the tank and now I have 1/2 albino babies swimming around. The crazy thing is most of the babies seem to be girls when all I want is a nice strong boy. So while my fingers are crossed I’m not banking on the new girls just yet. We'll just have to wait and see. How’s that Albino boy of yours? Still sulky or has he come round?
  15. Thanks Shiuh, but I know of at least one other. I still haven't found an albino male yet so I guess I'll just have to make my own.
  16. Post a WTB (Wanted To Buy) notice on "Private Trade and Exchange" section.
  17. WTG Devon! I have 2 drops of 8 non-albino babies (16 all up) from my albino girls now (Not big enough to cross back yet) would be very interested to see how your first cross goes. Good luck!!! :bounce:
  18. Um how old do you mean by "Baby Guppies"? I keep my baby tanks warmer than my other guppy tanks as the fish grow quicker and seem happier. They may "Survive" in cooler water but I can assure you they will not “Flourishâ€.
  19. There are pleanty, have a look on Trade Me and go see what your LFS has.

    Help

How is the tank today? Is the sick fish looking happier??
  24. I've always planted first then added fish. Easier without the little guys trying to see if you have food and getting in the way.

    Help

That's wonderful news lowndsie. I'd do another water change in 2 or 3 days to help things along. Remember that the balance (cycle) of you tank has been upset by this. Wouldn't hurt to treat it like a new tank again for a while. Maybe do 2 water changes this week and go from there?
