  1. I've just upped my ferts to that recommended by the calculator. Seems like a lot compared to what I was dosing, but we'll see how it goes.
  2. Nice tank, goldfish are definitely under-rated
  3. Yea way higher. I'll start dosing my tank according to that calculator and see how it goes.
  4. Had a quick look on plantedtank.net and this was stickied about 6 months ago. It's actually pretty sweet and does all the calculations for you. You can enter it in so you dose the same amount of each nutrient but make the concentrations different (basically just to make it easier to remember), or have it however you want. Did a quick google and I believe iron chelate is EDTA Fe (13%), and that looks pretty similar to Stoker's so that's two thumbs up
  5. Yea it's the stokers stuff. Unfortunately I don't have any test kits so can't really say I'm afraid. Wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in some though to guage what I'm using. Those levels are much higher than what I've been dosing. I have written here to use 1g per L, then dose 5ml/200L. However, I don't really have any red plants at the moment. Time for some research perhaps
  6. Yea I used to on my big planted tank and do on my current one. I can't say I noticed a difference but that's cos I started using it when I started using ferts altogether. I was told to dose 5mL/200L by Jen. Mind you I found I needed to add a lot more than the 'recommended' rate due to quite high lighting.
  7. Very cool fish, looks so armoured with those scales
  8. Looking good, you will love the halide. I would recommend some pin clips to hide the flex down the back of the wood. Just to make it look a wee bit tidier.
  9. Leave it how it is! That looks really good. Tricky to plant, but if you pull it off it'll be awesome. That hardscape is brilliant.
  10. Rabid head to air liquide by mitre 10 mega out hornby way. Costs me $30 to fill my 5kg.

Shame on them for trying to be nice
  12. Just guessing but they probably release a pheromone when they sting that tells the rest of them that danger is nearby. That's a cool picture, my girlfriend has a bumblebee nest in her bedroom wall/roof (sleepout). They get in through a crack caused by the earthquakes. :-?

I miss my old ones, I'd definitely set up some breeding tanks if they came back.
  14. I like how the max size is 11" however this one is apparently 55-65cm
  15. I just got home to Tauranga at midday, feel sorry for my flatmate that has to clean up all the water on the floor..
  16. That's a cool tank too, I look forward to seeing the progress on your tank. P.s. I love metal halide, I find it hard to go back to fluorescent tubes after seeing the shimmering !drool:
  17. My tank is quite tanniny at the moment and I reckon a 6,700K bulb (got mine from fish-street too) looks a lot nicer over it than a 10,000K. The 10,000K looks too white, whereas the 6,700K (because it's a yellower bulb) gives more of the blackwater effect.
  18. Are you going to chuck some oak leaves or the like in there? I like the look of them in a tank this style.

Oooh that tank is really awesome, good find!
  20. Looks like a crypt to me, but I can't tell you which one I'm afraid.
