    The What's Up? thread.

Yeea tremors rocks! I can't remember it very well but I remember the remote control cars with bombs strapped to them. In other news, our dodgeball team made the finals tonight, should be an epic game.
  2. Haha, I filled my tank up right to the top last night to give a big virtual middle finger to this predictionist.
  3. Yea some sort of clear plastic sheet to go across would work well. I have no idea where to get it from or what it would cost though. Do you reckon black mesh would be easier to see through Zev? the holes would have to be small enough so flies stay inside.
  4. I enjoy looking at this however not so much this :-? I think seeing the plants is going to be a lot better than seeing the fish jump at a few insects, not to mention the amount of water evaporating from the tank. Oh well, lesson learnt
  5. I went for a very half-ass look on Saturday (mucked around at the beach for most of it instead), but while we were looking a local came up and said most of the whistler's haven't been around for 20 odd years? Have you got a more specific place to find them at all? Perhaps it's too early for them to be out?
  6. You might get trouble between two adult males. I used to have two big adults together ages ago and they used to fight all the time. Get him a female though and I think he'd be pretty chuffed.
  7. looks good, reminds me of a triceratops skull

    The What's Up? thread.

how are you doing it this time? Let me know if you ever want to sell those threadfins
  9. I'd say go with the halide, and do what Ryan says, get an ex-commercial fititng. They are a ton cheaper than aquarium-made ones. With the money you save you could perhaps build a hood to keep the halide in? If you don't want a hood you can have the halide pretty low anyway because you'd have good air flow around it. You get the cool ripple effect with halides too. Bulbs are about $15-20 NZ from overseas so I think it's much more cost effective over T5's.
  10. A member on this forum sent me this photo in '06 I believe. This is how it looked then. I think their username is SWEETYSMUM
  11. I had a 5kg bottle on my 6 footer (6x2x2') and in order to keep the drop checker greeny-orange with an inline diffuser I would go through the bottle once every couple of months. You have a ton of light over this tank so your CO2 and ferts' amounts will need to be big in order to keep up.
  12. This grass effect is going to be cool Made a budget frame and got the netting up tonight. I originally wasn't going to have the light so high so I don't have enough netting to finish it til the Weekend. Which is also when I'll go for a frog/tadpole hunt.
  13. I've got some netting from Spotlight for when I take the lids off/get frogs. There's already some watercress growing Yea I imagine the barclaya won't like it so much but I don't think the hygrophila will be too worried, it'll just grow slower. Once I figure out how I'll raise the light up.
  14. Cheers Nav, I have one peace lily, some orchids, and a couple of ferns. I still need to raise the light up. The plants in the water flow are doing well, all starting to grow towards the light.
  15. Thanks for that Trilobite. I might go for a look tomorrow.
  16. Hi all, I was just wondering if there are any spots around Christchurch to find wild tadpoles or frogs? Preferably tree frogs but if not bell frogs will work.
  17. Yea it's around, haven't seen it in a few months though.
  18. It's been ages since I've done this. I just cheated and used excel
  19. The apisto's are a lot happier in their new home so I'll keep them for a bit. I went round to a guys house the other night and saw that he had a whole bunch of pot plants around the top of his tank which I thought was quite cool. He's sparked an idea. I went round to some shops yesterday and bought some thin netting material from spotlight, a few house plants and some aquatic plants. Two cheeky lines of silicone means no water will escape and soak the carpet A bit of wire netting to hold the plants in place. There's xmas moss, babies tears, and some lilaeopsis. I'll put the netting all around the top and buy a ton more house plants, add a bit of driftwood to the top, and then keep chucking insects in over summer. I think frogs would be cool too.
  20. Heh, my flatmate had a tank above her head during the September earthquake, woke up with a face full of water
