  1. Not by a long shot. It's about half and half (american and asian). One thing that really frustrates me about this tank is that Rotala rotundifolia will not turn red in it  . Even when I put it in the tank in red form it just goes green again.
  2. Originally had 6, but sold the smallest.
  3. Just did a google on that tank, and looks like 55cm high? I'm not too familiar with t5's but I think you might struggle with glosso (horrible plant anyway  ). Stargrass should be fine, it's pretty undemanding. Dwarf sagittaria would be sweet but can get quite high for a carpeting plant. There's the dwarf echinodorus species but I'm not sure how much light they require. Other plants like java fern/ bolbitis/ anubias species/ mosses etc will all work well, along with many types of stem plants/swords.
  4. I changed it around December, couldn't resist.
  5. Nah this is from the genus Barclaya. What you gave Robyn was a Cryptocoryne. I have a couple of pups but I'm going to grow them up a bit first.
  6. That's a red barclaya. Mine only stays that size, possibly due to it being directly under one of the halides. Most others get huge like the green variety.
  7. Nothing terribly exciting, just a few pics. Water level low due to living in Christchurch
  8. Yea I might try again with some crushed flake or decap brine shrimp. I was doing water changes every day, sucking all the crap off the bottom. Maybe larger ones were required.
  9. I tried breeding my sterbai a while ago, and successfully got one fry to adult from hundreds  . The problem I had was their bellies became swollen and they died. I have plenty of spare tanks so happy to try again if anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it?
  10. I use a microfibre cloth. I flick a bit of tank water onto the front glass then wipe it til the marks have gone. Works perfect and leaves the glass clean as, and uses no chemicals, so perfect.
  11. Mine don't have the yellow, those ones look cool.
  12. What have you been doing for the last 4 months? I'm in Upper Riccarton and have been changing ever since. I used to do 90% changes on discus in Tauranga (with chlorine) and they were fine. I don't know the differences in concentrations, though.
  13. Ahh thanks Artem, there was a lot in that package! I'm still just adding Comprehensive, NPK mix, and Iron chelate every second day. I will start to up the dosing as the plants grow. Lights are back up on the highest notch again, they will be staying there too. The plants seem to be growing well though, I'll post another photo in a couple of weeks.
  14. It's pretty much all crypts around the front of the wood. C. wendtii, walkeri, willisii, affinnis, and beckettii. I think I'm going to need to buy some more root balls with all these heavy root feeders.
  15. It's coming along slowly, my CO2 tank ran out on Friday evening so had the long weekend without CO2 but the tank didn't really suffer. I added 7 more oto's to the tank and they're doing a great job of eating the green algae on the sides of the glass (plenty left too). When I stripped the tank down I had 7 pup green barclaya's and 3 pup red barclaya's which is always good. The red never seems to get taller than 20cm in there though, lucky it looks good in the midground. I'm going to try have a few large green's on the left hand side instead of just one because I think it might look a bit nicer. Today I added a good amount of Cryptocoryne affinis and I think beckettii, Bacopa caroliniana (under-rated plant!), I have some Hygrophila corymbosa 'stricta' that's just starting to grow, and Ludwigia arcuata and Alternanthera 'rosaeafolia' converting from emersed to submersed. Oh, also added a pair of Apisto agassizii which means I will thin down the T-bars to maybe just one pair. Here's a pic, lots of growing to be done! Ps. The FX5 is a brilliant filter, coupled with a CF1200 it has the perfect amount of flow needed for the 'gentle wavy' look.
  16. Looks like anubias, narrow leaf java fern and bolbitis
  17. I agree with Alan. West coast is the place to go for nice bits. Waikuku beach had alright bits, but its not hardwood
  18. Very cool, it's nicely coloured
  19. They got algae'd. Had a few nice surprises while redoing the tank today though so it's all good.
  20. It's so bare Lighting will be down to 6 hours as of tomorrow. CO2 is cranking and plenty of ferts so there will hopefully be no algae this time! :-?
  21. sure, but it's gonna be a while.
