  1. I usually feed my fish as often as I can but make sure they eat all the food that I stick in within a minute or 2, obviously if you are feeding more often then you feed less each feeding. As long as there is no uneaten food then you can't really go wrong. If you feed more often your fish will grow faster and produce more waste so that might be a consideration. As much as what fish NEED they probably only need 1 feed every day or 2, I would be inclined to feed your tank relatively often to try and save your smaller fish from getting eaten by your angels. Might be a bit futile but is worth a shot..
  2. Would be a good tank to tumble fry in or use to hatch egg layer fry with methblue and an airstone..
  3. Are you 100% sure that it is a something coiled up on the eye and not just eye damage? If it is a parasite I would probably try and treat with praziquental or you can try salt baths or even PP or maybe formalin (not so used anymore) but it would pay to confirm what you are treating with before treating. The above are some of the things that can work against external parasites..
  4. crypt Balanses (can't spell) is another that is relatively hard and suits high ph and harder water Otherwise just try things you might be lucky and your yellows don't eat it!
  5. Pretty much all ambulances cost there are some free ambulance areas but I don't think they get enough funding to do it for free.. I look at it like the Ambo won't go into a plumbing shop and tell a plumber how to do his job and the plumber shouldn't expect him to, so how were you to know that it wasn't an issue for the ambulance?
  6. Would have to be a pretty big tent to fit you and your hair in it
  7. Awesome to hear it worked out for your mum Mark! But in the case where you were 10mins drive from the hospital and ambulance took 20mins to get there it would be too little too late..
  8. I agree with you there alloy, my wife is a heavy asthmatic and have had to call ambulances a few times for her, by the time they have got to us I could have been at the hospital.. Unsure how safe it would be me driving with the wife passing next to me though lol.
  9. There is quite a bit of info on the net under the old name still.. http://www.google.co.nz/#hl=en&biw=1366 ... 83dbd2537a But they are nice fish males can be quite nasty on girls so good idea to have a good colony of them going and a reasonable sized tank when they get some size on them. I have 15 odd at 2" in a 3fter and they are good but will need to go into a descent 4fter when they get bigger. Have also found NLS brings out brilliant colour in them..
  10. I would have called an ambulance too what else are you supposed to do after hours? It is not like you are a doctor and know what is wrong and know to just leave it for the GP.. Have you ever tried to call health line? My wife has called it a few times for opinions and they always say to call an ambulance even when it is pretty obvious you don't need one. I would be looked at laying a complaint as well, I would have thought it was situations like this that the ambulances were for?
  11. A PH of 6 shouldn't harm a bristlenose? Especially if it was lowered gradually by adding driftwood. Doing massive water changes and trying to manipulate the PH will probably cause more harm than good..
  12. Really depends on what sort of cichlids
  13. really depends on what someone wants to pay for it, if it is a male and someone has a girl and it is the only male that someone can get then it could be worth heaps.. If they are common or noone wants them then it can be worth nothing.. What is it worth to you?
  14. Above the water with water flowing over them, in a container with holes in the bottom..
  15. Yeah it was very cool The whole aqua culture setup was very cool too, but yeah they had a wet/dry polystyrene ball filter it was over the top and had a pump in the tank pumping water up then through the balls using a spraybar.
  16. They are good filters, try leaving the outlet tap open so that it is not sealed when you try and pull the lid up, also lube the seals with some silicone grease and it should make it easier..

    Help!!!

Is the tank relatively new? Oil slick on the surface should disappear if you disturb the surface with your filter or an airstone..
  18. I agree aqua one seem to be the better of the cheap Chinese filters they have been around long enough to be proven reliable and also to make sure that you can actually get parts for them which is a good thing.. I know that HFF had a special on these for $132 for the CF1200 which is a bloody good price, it was a while ago but maybe they still have some or can do you a good deal?
  19. Sorry to hear about your losses, have you tried salt and furan2? I am not a fan of those melafix type remedies it has been proven they can help with some things but they are not very broad spectrum so not really a good thing to add unless you know what you are targeting, at least they make the fishroom smell nice though
  20. If they just do it occasionally then it should be fine.. but if they really get into it and start flicking their fins and looking really really upset or swimming around with clamped up fins then it is time to worry.
  21. Probably a case of the wholesalers not having any so they are not on the wholesale list rather than them not being allowed to be imported.. I know that mollies like most other live bearers are higher risk fish because they are known to be carriers for all sorts of diseases.
  22. acriflavine has been associated with causing sterility in tropical fish and is a common ingredient in some fish treatments, what are the ingredients in the white sport cure that you used? There are a few different brand ones that all contain different things..
  23. I haven't had big issues with giraffes and kept and bred mine in a 170L tank with 2m 4f and they were fine. Even had a few other fish in with them, they aren't actually that agro or so I have found..
  24. Will be 2-3yrs+ before giraffes outgrow that tank, by that stage Tracy will be at least a 5-600L african tank because she would have been swayed to the good side and there will be no looking back for her Looking good Tracy
