  1. I hope you haven't opened it.. If there were over options around the same price range then I would return the elite one and get a better one elites are rubbish..
  2. I don't think there is any need, just chuck a bag or 2 of warm water in the bag with the fish.. I chuck heatpads in all times of the year (otherwise people complain) but most fish I have been sent have arrived with heatpads cold anyway, the warm water works all the time
  3. Might be even more helpful with those comms onboard Although Grant would probably have something to say about someone else playing with all his knobs.. Anyway Caryl I hope your trip down goes well and lots of people having taken up the offers of help you have put up..
  4. Yeah misread this when I first replied, most o-rings can be sourced from various o-ring suppliers for a fraction of the cost of the smaller ones.. I brought a $2 shop o-ring pack (had like 50-100 of various sizes) when I needed to replace a few o-rings on the taps of various filters and found one that fit every single filter and none of them have leaked so far Silicon grease is also your friend with o-rings.
  5. Nice looking discus! I hope you can keep the silica sand white, it went a horrible brown colour for me and looked terrible..
  6. You should be able to see if it has a thermostat it looks like a long silver thing with contacts on the bottom.. If it is just a heating element then it needs a thermostat but then it shouldn't be wired straight onto a plug if that is the case, does it have any wiring on it?
  7. Does the heater have a thermostat built into it? Or is it just the heating element?
  8. Most of the really old heaters had a separate thermostat that you had to wire in with the heating element and then you could set the temp on the thermostat.
  9. Sorry to hear that David, most fish take a few goes to get it right, males mature after females so maybe he isn't fertile or doing the right thing yet.. Marklb put some pics up on an overseas apisto forum and the conclusion was macmasteri, true viejita are rather rare internationally so the odds of getting them come into NZ is quite low (of course it could still happen). Either way the 2 are very similar so no real biggie in how they look etc, I guess the 2 could cross breed if you did have a male/female of different types.
  10. I am not familiar with the sands you have mentioned sorry so I cannot comment if they would be anything like the Wanganui sand..
  11. It is a shame that cuckoos prefer hard alkaline water, I am borrowing 8 adults of them at the moment and they are really cool fish
  12. Most shops would probably have to order them in, maybe just do a ring around on the off chance someone has them in stock but it is not likely..
  13. Its ok to love your fish just don't "love" your fish

Is there going to be any viewing access from the side? A pleco isn't going to be the most effective use of a pond..
  15. They are very nice fish Joe, good luck with them I would love to see some updated pics in a month or so..
  16. Awesome David, well done You are the master Now good luck raising them!
  17. Yeah I am hoping he is ok and just flat out at work at the moment, if anyone hears anything or sees him let me know
  18. Awesome good work Hopefully everyone starts breeding these and we see more of them around..
  19. I have had good results with NLS also like the nutrifin max stuff..
  20. They are nice looking fish Joe, still young and should colour up well Give them good quality flake/pellet food and live food and see what happens
  21. It is a very nice clean looking setup I still think you have around half the fish you could have in there but that is upto you.. Aurora I have found to be quite passive even when breeding, they are mbuna though so may be harder on your peacocks.
