  1. Swallow tail I believe that one also has ribbon fins, nice fish I have some too
  2. To my knowledge we no longer have them, I had them and they were awesome and I was breeding the snot out of them.. I went away for a course (when I met you Joe) and left some fry with a mate (as back ups) and had 2 separate pairs in 2 different tanks, lost one male from 1 pair while I was away and the other male soon afterwards. Haven't seen anymore since unfortunately
  3. Someone else I know had to contact Greg a few times with a problem and he did address it so I would keep trying too. He has to realise that he gets alot of business through this site so it is always best to look good.
  4. I have seen tanks that would have been at least 5-6yrs old made by Greg still 100% fine. As Warren has suggested it was maybe a bad batch of silicone or had had an off day and didn't clean that part or tank as well as he should have it is hard to tell..

    tanks

lol I know of a 2400 x 1800 x 600 unfortunately not setup and sitting in someones back yard in Palmy
  6. This trader has a few.. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listin ... er=1553002
  7. There are sometimes some good ones show up on trademe but yeah I agree Adrienne has good ones
  8. Bare minimum would be scrape off and replace the leaky bits, don't try and stick new silicone over the old stuff it wont really work.. To do a descent job the whole tank should be pulled down and redone, slicone only has a fixed life and if it has broken down and started to leak in one place then it will only continue to do so. You may get lucky though, it just depends where the tank is used, I have mine in an outside fishroom where it doesn't matter if it leaks so I just do quick patch up jobs (and I am yet to have one let go) but if it was in the house or somewhere not designed to take water leakage then I would do it properly.
  9. There are tons of threads discussing it on here and on the internet.. Basically the eheim is better but twice the price, all those that have the FX5 love it, it does a good job and is cheap, I brought a second hand FX5 3 years ago and it is still going strong, and is a very good size for my heavily stocked 540L african tank. Your tank will have a relatively small stocking level with those fish at least until your tinfoils and clowns get big.
  10. Sorry not pure 100% spirulina flake but a majority of it is spirulina and it is green as. There are theories that a diet too high in spirulina is bad for your fish but I feed it as part of a varied diet and have had no issues in the few years I have been using it in my room. NLS is one of my favs though, but I am a big believer in variety.
  11. Pure spirulina flake on trademe, but only by the KG so would be like 10-15 years supply for someone with only a few tanks, I buy a kg at a time and it lasts me 3-4months. Otherwise I would stick with NLS or novorift type foods for a tank with tropheus in it.
  12. Yeah you can do real ones.. But there are some silk plants that look ok in tanks.
  13. While I am not a believer in what he talks about (but honest enough to know that I don't know enough about it to say it is all rubbish) I don't believe he is intentionally scaring people. I think he really believes in what he knows and is trying to warn people, it is not really his fault is people are scared of what he is predicting, he is hardly trying to drive everyone out of town..
  14. I agree with Stella, you can do all you like to try and secure your tank but at the end of the day bad stuff happens.. You will have to worry about your TV, Chimney, windows, fridge or various other things in an earthquake of that size, is anyone aware of any deaths/injuries caused by fish tanks in the quake? Everyone even escaped from the commercial aquarium down down without injury. If your tank is well designed (well braced correct thickness glass) and has a good solid stand (which I am pretty sure yours does because I think I know who made it and he over engineers everything) then you should be fine. It should always be a consideration but it would be hard to live your life not having things you enjoy just in case.. I think if we thought of all the things that have injured/hurt/killed people in the past we would be wrapped in cotton wool and have empty houses. But like I said to you despite all the above if it stops you from sleeping and really has you upset then it has to go because it is not worth the stress. But I think you should keep it and enjoy and be proud of it, it looks awesome and I know how many years you have been working on sourcing descent fish for it.
  15. Do you have normal or crossed females to try and breed them with? You need to cross a blue male to a normal female, grow out offspring and then breed a female cross back to a blue male to get a % of blues out.. There are rumours of 100% blue pairs breeding successfully though..
  16. I had guessed a male due to size (it looks like a big filled in fish) finage etc.. But I don't really know too much about these guys could be entirely wrong..
  17. Is this a new tank? Although it is a good size just be wary of cycling and all that good stuff.

Well that is weird I had assumed they liked different water.. It does appear they come from waters with high phs so should be fine. http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/rainbow ... semans.php
  19. Awesome, the bottom fish looks like he is a descent size.
  20. It is a bit of an unorthodox mix you have suggested but I have seen it work before the electric blues will probably eventually get too big and aggressive for the kribs but they might be ok.. I have also kept rainbows with the africans before, they are in the same boat as the kribs they adjust but I don't think it is that good for them.
  21. Yeah it is a shame.. I have been requesting brevis for a while now, but pretty stocked we got the occies we did get they are one of the best ones out there. The major problem is we have had brevis even tang flashers (plus all sorts of other cool stuff) in the country but people don't get them and breed the crap out of them and spread them so they die out and never get imported again so we loose them

Yeah they will be fine short term but it does have long term affects on their health because they haven't evolved to handle those amounts of minerals in the water.. End of the day you would question if it does really matter, I would guess that most of our fish don't live long enough to actually be affected by these long term issues.
  23. Yeah I agree they grow so slowly seeing a monster is an achievement and taken alot of time and care.. Comps are a smaller species than calvus anyway even the 7-8yr old gold heads I have seen have been around just over half the size of his calvus he is a monster, just such a shame that there is no girls around for him Firefox are awesome The only one I haven't got yet apart from those carambas which I am not interested in anyway.
  24. A mate of mine has a massive male calvus (he is hunting for a female if anyone has one spare or sees one, was too slow to get any from HFF this time even though he messaged straight away) that would easily eat an adult female shellie for breakfast and then the male for lunch. He is a monster though and quite an old fish, and the comps stay smaller so should be ok. I wonder if the leleupi/shellie thing is a myth it seems to be on a few places on the net but I wonder if it is a one off occurrence or if it has happened quite often? I guess only time will tell as there are a few keeping them together now.. I have dubs with shellies and they are sweet shellies have their shells and the dubs have the rest of the tank.
