  1. They are looking awesome Is something giving them a hard time? They have torn fins
  2. Approach your local petshop and ask them to see the wholesale list some guard them like they are top secret some will just fold the price over (again like this is a big secret) and show them to you. Make sure you ask for all the lists some will only have current lists from one wholesaler there are quite a few, brooklands, aquarius, highways etc.. Also remember that the names used on the list (especially for cats and cichlids) are just random common names and may not actually be what is available you may order it and get something completely random instead.. Good luck
  3. What's going in the tank? There is nothing wrong with bubble or sponge filters for smaller tanks either if you are on a budget it is what most breeders use..
  4. I have found the clown loaches grow really fast I got some of those 2cm cheap ones from HFF about 5-6months ago and they are now ranging from 3-4 to 5-6cm growing like weeds, and that is only in a 200L tank with water changes every few weeks, they eat NLS like it is going out of fashion coming upto the surface to get it and getting so fat..
  5. They joined here a few years ago and tried to promote their site, didn't like what they got told so haven't posted or tried to advertise here since. So they know what they are recommending is unethical they just don't care..
  6. I would say no to Enantiopus kilesa I have never seen of or heard of them in the country.. Probably another one those ones we had 20 years ago and died out

    Demasonis

If you take them out and strip them then you need to stick them straight back in so they don't get outed from the colony, also be very very careful with them they are hard to strip I have killed 1 girl stripping her and another got killed when I stuck her back into the tank.. Usually just best to load the tank up with rocks and let the fry survive in there strip the tank down every so often and get them out.
  8. Yeah I thought, well at least hope that clown loaches eat them I have the bloody things going through my tanks atm too
  9. It depends on your interpenetration.. The allowable list of species into the country could be reffered to as the allowed import list. The list of fish available from NZ wholesalers is usually called "the list" or the wholesale list, obviously they are not the same..
  10. I was given some recently, they are only small (and not really growing) but look quite nice so far.
  11. Perspex is ok but does tend to get scratched and discoloured quicker than glass it can also be alot more expensive if you cannot source and offcut or other random bit.. I would stick with glass and just have a hunt around see what you can find cheap, maybe contact the place that is selling the entire tank for $8 more than the lid and see how much they will sell you a lid for?
  12. I would run a second overflow as well just in case..
  13. The trickle filter will probably do the job but more is always best.. What sort of fish are you looking at? I have seen plenty of quite stocked tanks with just the standard filters on those all in one tanks.
  14. Yeah pretty sure they are legally required, but as Smidey said they are very simple..
  15. People use the bricks with the holes in them in tanks so they should be fine
  16. What is the KH of your water to start with? It is probably easier to find water with a lower KH and change the PH of that.. Failing that you can just keep dumping more peat etc in there to try and overcome the buffering (which might be what they are talking about here).
  17. It is sometimes best to link to articles here so that things are explained correctly there is a very good run down of it here.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/w ... mistry.php But generally GH refers to the hardness of your water (ie soft or hard water) KH is the carbonate hardness (or buffering) and PH is how adic or alkaline it is..
  18. Ah sweet, did you get the giraffes off me When I was in bulls? As above around 8 yellows would be good with 12 dems it is no hard and fast thoug you can easily do more or less but I find less contrasts well with the dems.
  19. My choice would be selling the giraffes/geos once they outgrow your new tank too. Also really bad numbers of fish (2) for aggression etc as they mature.. Where in the country are you? I would go less yellows than dems because the yellows get bigger maybe 8 to 12 dems would be good.
  20. I increased the flow on my tank from 850 to 1200lph with no issues my filter had 1 main overflow in the filter and 2 back up ones.
  21. Lol well there is no H in Wanganui so no confusion needed David that sound like it might be a good plan will see what we can work out..
  22. Lol I think you mistook my Whangarei for Wanganui?
  23. I am wanting to get some fish off Smidey and due to the size and number of fish involved shipping is going to be risky, just wondering if anyone is making the trip and can bring the fish down for me, happy to chip on for gas or give some fish or whatever in return
