  1. From where to where? And what company?
  2. Don't think same day couriers exist - from memory only within same city boundaries now but maybe a company that can do it.. I am sure you will find somewhere that can sell you one, have you done a ring around?
  3. Head to the beach I am sure you will find something suitable - although you may have to go a bit further away from Auckland to find a beach that has driftwood on it.
  4. Your guppies should heal up fine, sounds like you have the fighter sorted now. Probably no need for stress coat (costs money) just add a bit of salt and keep the water clean (do a water change) and it should heal up ok just keep an eye out for any infections. Re the fighters not eating I have kept fighters before and they ate anything I stuck in the tank, fish get used to what they were raised on so will prefer that over everything else until they are used to new foods. Don't rush out and buy special foods just keep feeding small amounts or starve the fish for a few days it will eventually eat what you stick in the tank, they can go weeks without food so don't worry about the fish getting harmed it is just being fussy.

    Hi all!

Hi and welcome I agree would love to see you there
  6. Are those designed to be filled from the bottom, usually the baskets are held up off the bottom of the filter to allow for a good exit of water so you might have to install a grill or something down there.. But yeah bagging would make it easier to remove them again when you want to clean them

Firstly hi mate it will be good to have you back! Where have you been? Ikola, pemba, firefox, caramba, bulu points and yellow band dubs are all fairly easy to find caramba probably not so much but should be around.. There are white band dubs around and tropheus brichardi as well but haven't heard of either being bred.. Feel free to come over and have a look if you want I have firefox, ikola, dubs, pemba and a couple of bulus nothing breeding yet but working on it
  8. http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/detail/view/new-life-spectrum-cichlid-formula-1mm-2270g/m/1089/ although it used to be $176 so has had a big price hike.. Good if you are a fish club member and get 10% off Or get together with a few friends and import some.. http://www.kensfish.com/newlifespectrum.html
  9. NLS in a 2.27kg bucket works out really cheap per gm and it is good quality too.. If you want to go on the cheap then buy the spirulina flake off trademe, it will turn your water green though and your fish wont go as well as they will on NLS. Maybe even make your own frozen foods..
  10. Sounds like a nice tank, any pics? As for price A nicely presented 800L tank in 12mm should be getting at least $1k if you can find someone in this climate with that sort of cash..
  11. Yeah looks good, even something black slid in behind the tank can make a good back drop... Stocking could be on the higher side but should be ok if you keep an eye on things, those moonlights can get pretty big. Have you considered joining the fish club in Palmy? They meet once a month on Sundays it would be a great way to learn more about fish and meet some other fish keepers.. They are a pretty good bunch
  12. There is no need to buy battery powered air pumps just make sure the fish are well bagged individually and take it easy, I had fish packaged for 16hrs+ when I moved to Auckland and they were fine.. Have also had fish that I have shipped get lost and take 2 days to get delivered with no issues.. I do doubt you will find anything in a Wellington store that you can't find in Auckland though
  13. Yeah she is the same strain as the ones you have (tripple red x F1) so she should be a nice fish.. Her dad was pretty nice There are some pics of him in my photo bucket.. Hopefully they breed for you, she has laid before..
  14. No they are not, I have removed eggs and pot and put them into their own tank with the eggs in the light and methblue/airstone and had them hatch..
  15. Used to get some from a lake over on the shore many years ago but I can't for the life of me remember where it is or what it was called, went down at night with a net and caught bucket loads of them to feed to my africans.. Should really go for a drive and see if I can remember where it was..
  16. Whitespot sure is a mix of medicines not just meth blue.. Tonic can be a better mix because it has all sorts in it that can treat other issues too..
  17. Need to see some pics or a diagram of what you are doing first.. But sometimes you can just move the support, or just substitute it with a big beam..
  18. I would probably stay away from most cooked human meats, generally fish should be fed on cold blooded animal meat (seafood) but veges are ok..
  19. Yeah I would do externals on a tank that size too, probably only really worth the effort for a tank 500L+ if you don't already have an FX5 or other similar large filter to use.. Of course there will be nothing wrong with using a sump if you wanted the project just probably no real benefit to it. You could probably source a CF2400 for $300 (or cheaper second hand) or a couple of CF1200's..
  20. FX5 has quite coarse sponges so it can easily go 6-12 months without a clean When you have 10+ canisters running it pays to have them as low maintenance as possible the gunk is good.. I usually leave my ones with filter wool around the same length of time and still have good flow when I do clean them out.. Yeah a planted tank would be a good option, but it is always the issue of getting it balanced and ferts and lighting and CO2 and then pruning the plants and worrying about algae and stuff if it goes bad.. Really depends what you like I guess I should try a planted tank sometime but suspect it would just turn green on me..
  21. If you want low maintenance and good colour/bang for your buck get africans you can create an awesome display very easily (and most fish will colour up well if you stock it correctly just do some google image searches or look on you-tube). Maintenance wise on a tank that size when it is fully established and cycled etc even with 50odd adult africans in it I have pushed water changes out to 30% with water straight out of the hose every 3 weeks.. But always try and do them weekly, filter clean every 6-12 months and scrap some algae off the front occasionally as required, doesn't get much easier than that. Regarding the PH and hardness and stuff, just chuck the right substrate/rocks in and it will sort it out for you, they are very hardy.
  22. If your limestone isn't crumby then chances are it isn't causing the issue.. How old is the tank? What filtration/stocking level are you running? What are you feeding? How long has it been cloudy for?
  23. You could do anything you want to but the disease would probably spread, from memory you need a really slow flow and good exposure of the water to the UV to kill most of the bugs and with most UVs and return pumps then you probably wont get that..
  24. I have limestone in my African tanks and have crystal clear water.. It is possible you have sandstone which will dissolve or have insufficient filtration or other issues..
  25. I just painted a sheet of cardboard and stuck that in behind the tank looks good..
