  1. Probably nothing to do with any nationality manufacturers always try and make spares for them items unique so that you can't go and buy standard ones that do the same job for a fraction of the price.. It makes sense
  2. What size are the tanks you are planning to use? Obviously what you can use depends on what size tanks you have, with smaller tanks you can buy quite solid hardware shelving from a hardware store or off trademe, but obviously if you are talking 8ft tanks some more engineering would be required..
  3. Someone once told me that you can get almost the same results as those fancy aquarium bulbs, by if you choosing the right colour standard bulb from mitre10 for a fraction of the price? Exactly what makes these gro bulbs different? Yes I know they will be "specially designed" for growing aquatic plants, but what is different in the way they do that to any other normal bulb like say a 6800k T8 that most would use?
  4. Yeah would be awesome to see some new members, everyone who is coming should encourage one non member to come and we will see how we go
  5. I agree, I have 10 of them and they are never hiding.. It is great to see them in a school and coming upto the surface to eat etc
  6. Yeah I would start treating for whitespot, rock salt is probably the best and easiest thing to use and you can get it at a supermarket etc.. But the mention of blisters rather than spots has me concerned.. Where in the country do you live?
  7. If it got in there it should be able to get out!
  8. Probably wouldn't keep any fish with the intention of making money, but community fish that most people can house are always good to breed to try and cover some costs..
  9. I actually think they got off lighting, I mean a couple of months in a minimum security PC prison in NZ but if they had got away with it then they would have got more money.. Will certainly show there mates there is not really any punishment for it..
  10. We do have some plans for some good fun at the next meeting so I encourage everyone in Auckland even if you aren't members to come along and say hi and participate! If transport is an issue then post on here and we will see if we can find someone driving from your area for you to catch a ride with. Hope to see everyone there
  11. The way it should be, thanks Caryl it was a good read!
  12. Depends on what length you want but the T5HO ones are relatively cheap on trademe..
  13. Don't have any idea myself but have you tried using the search engine? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/search.php?keywords=breeding+locusts&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search There have been tons of threads on locust breeding in the past..
  14. Firstly I would look into the warranty type stuff as suggested, you pay a small fortune for these filters so should be covered for a bit longer.. I would also do the suggestion of lubing the seals with silcone grease that might help, but failing that if it is coming out the top of the motor unit take it all apart and see if there are any other seals that may have been moved or need a lube and stick it all back together.
  15. Yeah I am sure a system could be designed providing the water coming in was always hot it would be fine.. You would hate to have to actually heat a pool if the incoming water wasn't warm enough. I am sure I have seen photos of a tank that someone made in a shipping container on the net somewhere..
  16. There was a thread somewhere saying that only vets could dispense prazi.. I would just do a ring around and try and local droncit tabs or even try for the liquid adtape (this stuff is liquid gold and priced accordingly) there are also various drenches with prazi and levamisole in them that could probably be used..
  17. Why not just carry on from your existing fishroom lighting thread? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=52352 Anyway I would recommend you get some lighting at least 6500 even upto 10000k it is nice and white and bright and makes things look good, I had 4300k tubes in my room and it was just dull and really yellow the fish didn't have much colour and none of the plants really grew. This may be an issue when you are getting your energy saver bulbs but I believe there are 6500k bulbs available. As for 4 energy savers being enough, how big is the room?
  18. There is a small steady stream of bubbles going into the water reservoir so thinking head gasket, most likely started out as a thermostat which overheated the engine and then head gasket blew.. Seems to be a common problem with these cars anyway.. Just rung mechanic and he agrees either head gasket or blocked radiator, taking it down at lunchtime for him to confirm before I change anything else.
  19. Yeah I would love to know how it is hard to get the top off the aqua one filters, undo 4 latches open the outlet valve and pull it off? I would go with Suphew here, remove all the hoses and refit them and have a good look inside them and see if you can see any air bubbles in the inlet tube and then trace them back. Lube all the seals (including the tap ones) and should be all good.
  20. Yeah top hose is hot bottom is cold.. I read this as there is no flow and the engine is heating up the top hose but because it is not flowing it doesn't transfer to the bottom. If it was a blocked radiator they surely it would always overheat? Roughly half the time it is fine - really confusing.. Thermostat is out atm wanting to fix this without it fitted so I didn't have to worry about it being the issue and putting me down the wrong track. And it only fits in one way BTW Anthony thanks for your time on the replies.. Going to try and top it up properly today in case there are air lock issues and go from there.
  21. Yeah there doesn't seem to be any flow like I can feel the top of the radiator and it is hot the bottom is stone cold.. With the amount of water I could get through it I would expect some flow to be able to get through? Maybe not 100% efficient but should do something? So doing a cylinder leak test for head gasket?
  22. So you would diagnose this by looking for the fine air bubbles you are talking about above?
  23. The thermostat I have changed is undre a little black plastic cover that is fed by the bottom radiator hose the top one goes into a housing right next to it. So it is directly inline.. I just took the hoses off when it was empty and chucked the hose on it to pressurise it and water poured out the bottom, surely that would be enough to get some water flow and heat through the radiator?
  24. Yeah I agree you need to redo the stuff between the glass..
  25. No just posted it tonight.. There is no evidence of any water in the oil, so I hoping not head gasket or warped head etc... There is also no fluid loss..
