  1. Probably not far off there . I know our policy is to replace all o-rings or gaskets whenever you disassemble an item.. Kinda makes sense though an analogy they use when we do our training is you cant just pull up on a cloud if you break down or something goes wrong. It gets even more hard out when you start delving into all the mil-spec bits..
  2. This is usually because the multi board is overloaded.. Have you worked out the total wattage of the items connected to it? You should be able to go upto 2300W off one multi board, but that is pretty dodgy and I would hate to see what one of those multi boards would do if it was flowing 9A through it constantly and not blowing.. Also bear in mind while you may move some onto another board if the board was blowing because it was overloaded then it runs the risk of blowing the house protection as well as that is usually 10A, so you will need to look at moving some onto another outlet that is protected by another fuse or CB. Failing that maybe your multi board is just worn out or cheap and nasty..
  3. Yep sounds like a pretty good answer
  4. lol well there you go I just used silicone grease because everyone said not to use vas.. lol
  5. I wouldn't use a petroleum based one because it can eat the rubber.. I use silicone grease, but something like what you have described might work too.
  6. Do you have any pics of the back of the hood? It might not be possible to fit it without drilling holes, I know the CF 2400 hoses are huge so can only imagine the 2700 ones are pretty big too..
  7. Another option would be to get someone to chuck it in a tank and look after it until you can arrange to get it. Hope it all works out, this is the main reason I refuse to do Sat deliveries..
  8. If you have the 3 large sponge filters in each tank and they are cycled and you keep up with water changes then the water quality (chemically speaking ammonia etc) would be fine, sponge filters are great at biological filtration and I run them on some quite big heavily stocked tanks with no issues. They are not very good at mechanical filtration (poos etc) so you may end up with some extra waste floating around in the tanks, you can add air powered box filters (no good with fry) to pick up this mechanical stuff though. It is a very common misconception that you need to spend money to have good water quality. It is all pretty basic really, get water flow through any media bacteria builds up converts and ammonia the ammonia to less toxic stuff and people have been keeping fish with basic filters with no issues for years. Personally if you were wanting to add a filter to each of these tanks I would recommend aqua one CF1200s they are only $132ea at hollywood fishfarms atm and they flow 1200LPH (roughly obviously drops with media). They filter well and last for years I know people have had them running with no issues for 7-8yrs with no issues, and you can buy many for the price of one eheim. They are the toyotas of filters, cheap and basic and just keep on going And if they do happen to crap out parts are cheap and easy to come by..
  9. How big is it? It would probably be ok.. If you want a cheap canister filter then aqua one CF1200s are great and only $132 at hollywoods atm..
  10. Just make sure she documents everything that has happened in case it results in dismissal and she decides she wants to take legal action against her.. Remember that a serious misconduct resulting in dismissal can be something as little as taking an 80c DVD like what happened recently.. http://www.rotoruadailypost.co.nz/local/news/era-sacking-of-dvd-man-justified/3962631/
  11. It does sound a bit weird.. I am not 100% on this stuff but I am pretty sure they have to tell you the reason for the meeting to allow you time to prepare yourself (or a defence) and I think that you are entitled to have a support person present as well?
  12. I would think if it it was serious and there was no doubt you were guilty (evidence etc) then it would be instant dismissal, but you would probably have had to be informed of what has happened and presented all evidence against you before being dismissed..
  13. Flukes and worms are all parasites But yeah internal parasites are one of the causes of white stringy poos especially when combined with the fish getting skinny, but it could still be plenty of other things. I recommend starting with the levamisole because it is cheap and easy to source, works quite well for a variety of things and is quite gentle.. Have you found the dosage rates etc?
  14. I would probably only dose the one tank, if the fish improve then treat the other because you have obviously treated something.. Levamisole is pretty harmless though and I read somewhere it is a good immune system booster so it shouldn't hurt either way.
  15. Correction the meeting will probably be at my place in Hobsonville, you guys in Pt Chev may be able to catch a ride with pink_fish though..
  16. Hmm sounds like you might need to make it along to the next fish club meeting We are having a photographer and fish keeper along to give us some tips on taking pics They should eat decap, but will go for foods that are moving like microworms and hatched brineshrimp better..
  17. Yes long white stringy poos is a sign of worms - the worms are stripping everyone out of the food in the gut so the poo comes out clear with nothing left in it.. Aviverm can be purchased online from NZ stores (google it) and is available from the bird barn up here..
  18. Bang on there is a big email floating around getting sorted to be sent with tons of info for everyone
  19. No point in buying a chemical treatment if the salt has worked, I would just leave it as is and gradually get rid of the salt with your water changes..
  20. Yeah it could definitely set a standard that needs to apply to other breeders - colour strains of guppies, platties etc..
  21. Yeah baking soda is for the PH, you need to add epsoms salts.. I add 1TBS of epsoms and 1 tsp of baking soda per 20L for my tangs..
  22. They are guppies, there is no such thing as a cold water guppy they can live in temperate water (generally best kept over 18-20) but that doesn't make them a true cold water fish, regardless of what a petshop sells them as. As someone suggested this is probably why they got white spot with the lower temps over winter they have probably been subjected to lower temps and more stress than usual. What other fish are in the tank? The amount of salt you are adding is tiny, I would add at least one big handful to a 2ft tank, and maybe another in a few days if there was no improvement. Obviously this would depend on if you have any fish sensitive to salt in the tank.
  23. It was a shame you missed it Liam Pet expo meeting at Pink_fish's place on Sunday if you can make it Anyway thanks everyone for the awesome meeting it was a good laugh, cheers Josh for providing the entertainment which consisted of Origami fish which Josh decided to make more of a challenge for us pros by not practising how to do it before hand and printing the instructions out in a different language.. Was very amusing seeing everyone huddled around trying to figure it all out.
  24. Good call fishplants and good spotting I missed that.. The bacteria may (I say may because who really knows? Can we see it) die off somewhat in the absense of ammonia to feed it..
  25. Yeah a 50-75% water change with water of similar parameters wont hurt at all.. Probably better to use pre heated fresh water but if you can't get the parameters similar and it heated it will cause more stress with a big wtaer change..
