  1. The professional photographer is firenz off here So he is also a fish keeper, hopefully he is bringing some of his photos to share as well so there will be something for everyone. Looking forward to seeing everyone there especially our new or any prospective members or just forum members who want to come along and say hi and learn something or have a laugh.
  2. You can make those overflows (or ones using the same principle) out of PVC pipes as well..
  3. You tend to stay away from anything with wiki in the address if you want to produce a credible document/application.. http://www.fishbase.org/ is one of the main recognised sites that is used.

    african keeper

Hey mate, good to see you here too
  5. That is what plecos are great for I would look at thinning the number of them out to reduce the amount of waste they make, and also adding a powerhead or internal to keep the crud stirred up and allow the filter to pick it up.
  6. I will look at it tomorrow then and email you some pics too..
  7. I can probably help with a few of them mate, is this the article I am supposed to be proof reading? lol
  8. 25 is fine might take 1 extra day maybe? No biggie..
  9. I usually leave mine a min of 2 weeks (at 26C it is temp dependant) before stripping, but as long as they are hatched and wriggling you can usually stick them in a breeding trap with an airstone and keep them moving and they should be fine..
  10. Awesome, what is coming in You might as well post it here and let us all know.. You might even pre sell everything
  11. Yeah might be the water? Who knows either way the Africans go well for me so stick with what your good at I always say No doubt I will get lured in and try the apistos again and maybe they will work for me then..
  12. Yeah mate, you know the story now might not be fertile the first few times but they look like nice mature fish so you never know.. Yeah we had true borellii too, weak as anything though I brought 8 of them trying to get them going with no luck, had a few spawns even got free swimming fry but lost them again No more apistos for me, have some macs and agassizi here still but will leave it to you guys who actually keep them alive
  13. Good work mate! Typical of you to have them 5 mins and have them laying already, the apisto whisperer at work again huh? Good luck with the spawn, I am hoping you do well with these guys it has been a shame to loose them the last few times they came in Now just gotta wait for the borellii to show up

    Fish dying :(

Went over to zdodas house tonight to have a look, and the fish have some sort of spots on them I am not entirely sure it is white spot and if it is it certainly isn't a bad enough infection to kill yet.. Have suggested treating all the fish with wonder tonic/salt because that is a good general cure all with all sorts in it and probably one of the best places to start, will see how it goes..
  15. It was an awesome weekend everyone We raised some money and got some new members, once we get all the details we will send it out to all members so they know what we achieved, if anything we had a good weekend and I know I met quite a few interesting people. And all the displays looked good and got plenty of comments.. Raffle is getting drawn tonight hopefully, unfortunately I can't be anything to do with it because of the number of tickets my wife brought lol So maybe we will win
  16. Yeah I agree There have been some nice ones here though.. Not sure where they went? lol I bet you could mate, it is a shame that with our import list we have little or no chance of ever seeing half of those fish in the country

    Fish dying :(

That fish does look like it has bulging eyes, that is usually caused by poor water conditions but I know zdoda and he has done the tests so unsure what is happening there.. It is possible that the fish got the pop eye in its final stages. You mention a fungus? Is it in tuffs on the fish or just a few patches or just a milky type slime on the fish?
  18. Just bumping this thread up for a good read, have been telling people about this tank.. Also would be nice to see the latest version of it if freshwest is still around
  19. Look good that is a seriously well engineered stand!
  20. You are 100% correct about needing new species to keep things rolling, I believe for a short time we can get new species into the country just by importing the things that are allowed and getting them bred/distributed so that others can enjoy them. The FNZAS is working on some fish list stuff, however as I am sure you are well aware it is a massive job and nothing happens overnight especially projects of this size with a team of volunteers who have jobs/families/lives and no commercial interest in it. I think the best thing to do is to work on the things that are allowed, get them into the country and make sure they stay here.. Also trying to track down all the rare and wonderful things that were imported legally many years ago (before import laws changed) and are no longer allowed. No doubt there are still people out there with all sorts (tang featherfins is one that pops to the front of my mind) and various other things who have no idea or interest in breeding them and none of us know them because they aren't active on here or in the community/clubs. We need to try and track these people down and either help them breed their fish or encourage them to part with them so that others can try and get them out..
  21. Some lelu resembling "firecrackers" were imported from Germany a few years ago and I know a few people with them.. They weren't the super red ones that you sometimes see on the net, but it does appear to be a very subjective name..
  22. For sure Africans are my favourite and you have yours, my mate is also a fan of the fish from the right lakes and also has a few wholesale/import contacts so was just asking around to see what interest there was in these fish. He is not a member here so asked me to chuck up a thread and see if there was any interest in species, obviously this is just a look around and nothing to base anything commercial on, it is interested googling other fish and dreaming lol. lol Ymir that is an awesome list but unfortunately (without checking too much) I don't think any of them are allowed I believe all the allowed Africans on the list are below.. Bearing in mine that things like Tropheus Moorii cover a large range of fish so would the Al. stuartgranti. For example my list of allowed fish I would like to see some quality examples of in the country is: Tropheus Moorii iialngi/Kasanga. Descent Altolamprologus compressiceps - firefin Astatotilapia burtoni Cynotilapia afra (cobue) Neolamprologus kungweensis Neolamprologus brevis Pseudotropheus flavus Aulonocara jacobfreibergi eureka http://www.bigskycichlids.com/images/Ajacobfreibergi_eureka.jpg or eureka albino http://www.bigskycichlids.com/images/ACA%2006/A_jacobfreibergi_eureka_alb.jpg And maybe even some descent Melanochromis johannii I can't seen to find any quality ones I like around.. And sure I would pay for quality fish, lol but noway I could afford or house colonies of all of the above
  23. Have had a friend ask me to put this thread up just for curiosities sake.. We can pretty much get any tropheus species legally imported into NZ BUT they will cost big bickies.. Tropheus Moorii is allowed and that covers most of the nice tropheus - Illangi, Mpulungu, Kasanga etc.. What would you like to see? Is that a dream or would you shell out reasonable money for good quality fish? Same goes for malawis, I have a big wish list of fish that are on the allowed list but we don't see here Just wondering if anyone else has the same?
  24. Yeah it is awesome how much support we have had from the stores they have been great and really getting behind the club We had a total of 4 tanks donated raffling 3 and giving one away Should be a fun weekend!
