Do you have any filter wool in your existing filter? I have had some success with seeding filters by wrapping filter wool around the new filter and starting it off.. Otherwise just feed less and water change more..
-
This would be my thoughts too. Different breeds of fish are more succeptable to certain problems than others, mollies for example may be more prone to it if you have them in water that isn't brackish etc.. Without actually finding out what type of work is affecting your fish it is hard to decide the appropriate dosage, levamisole HCL (Aviverm) is a good place to start, if you search the forums for it using the search feature above you will find tons of advice just make sure you do it properly. If that doesn't work then you may have to try praziquental/metro or fenbedazole..

Congrats on the fry, they look good, what type are they? Typical story there with a trio, although most of these apistos are harem spawners it does need a fairly big tank with lots of cover to work, otherwise the male and first female to spawn beat the snot out of the 3rd wheel.. Seperation and feeding the fish up does seem to work well to condition them though. I wait until the fry are actually swimming not hopping off the ground.. A little tiny bit of food wont hurt just to observe what they are doing - you should be able to tell if they are eating.. But if your tank is established with some plants in it etc then the fry will have plenty to graze on so wont starve. Is the male still in the tank? And are you planning on leaving the fry with the female or seperating them?

Clean them when they are dirty, but if you have 3 then maybe alternate cleaning them in case you kill off too much bacteria but that shouldn't be an issue if you clean them in tank water etc. If you have them in a bare bottom and do weekly water changes sucking up any crud then they probably dont get that dirty anyway.

lol your right Fixed now.. Doubt Josh will drive all the way past green bay to come to my place.. -
This could well be the case, did you leave the old filter running or transfer any media from the running filter to the new filter?

Jack is joining the great west Auckland car pool from my place, 4 people so far Edit - As neon pointed out I put Josh not Jack -
If you buy the right one should just be plug and play.. Not sure on how good that would be for a beginner planes aren't my thing, but if you look at the list on the lhs of that page they sell radio gear too..

You can catch and strip her if you want But you have to weigh up how much you want the babies, dems are very hard to catch, quite hard to strip without damaging them and if it is her first spawn then she will only have 5-10 babies anyway so you can spend several hours catching her stripping all the rocks out of the tank and then get 5 babies for it.. I usually leave them to hold and spit the first few times by themselves and the babies survive in the tank, and they learn to be better parents and how to hold their babies full term.

Stuartgranti Maleri with community fish = winning?
ryanjury replied to Chug's topic in Beginners Corner
Temporarily when small they may be ok, but they will get big enough to eat most of those fish.. Sometimes they can even be ok full term, but generally it isn't recommended and you wont be able to provide water conditions that really suit all of those fish, sure they will adjust but then it becomes a question of if you want to provide conditions that your fish will live in or conditions which they will thrive in.. Jack isn't far off there, tons of dodgy "breeders" around the place, pics off the net breeding in mixed tanks, sourcing fish from random places.. And attitudes can easily be judged by how people answer questions. -
Bugger, I actually find this very selfish but that is just my opinion I guess. Even if not interested in money he could give them away so that others could also have the pleasure of enjoying the fish too, oh well I guess we can only hope that someone imports some new frontosa and produces some pics and/or sells them so we know they are real and that everyone can enjoy them and ensure they stay in the country.

Tha isnt a true 4ch though it's a coaxial with some fans on the side... Flying one with actual cyclic is allot harder, but that would be good start to get your head around the controls.
-
I was actually taking the piss, but I guess if you were to siphon some of the sperm straight off the eggs if you were to witness the fish in the act and then look at it under a microscope you should see something? Only a guess though..
-
There is a male on trademe $1 res buy it and try another one
-
Yeah it is well known that people hide what they have for their own reasons.. But it seems a shame that people take this to the degree that they never share or breed and spread them so that everyone can enjoy them.
-
Most people who fly planks fly helicopters in mode 1 so that the throttle and other controls are similar, so it might be something to consider converting the controller to mode 1..
-
lol the age old "you will never know, never see them and never see any pics" Gotta be good, lets hope if they are here they are being bred and spread so that everyone can enjoy them, and yeah if they are true kigoma there would be other differences - they have been described as a different species so there must be other differences..
-
They came in many many moons ago (before the import list got smashed) and died out a few less moons than that without being bred I would also like to know if anyone has any 5/6 bar trets kicking around would be a shame if we have lost them in the country as well
-
I think hff was stocking it for a while.. Or was that lighting diffuser? You could try under gravel filter plates if your just trying to make a divider..
-
Well I guess there are distinct different ones in the lake, but we have like F1000 fish mass produced from god knows what species overseas and simply just sold as "frontosa" then it is very hard to decide what they are apart from calling it a frontosa, unfortunately this applies to most of the species that we have in NZ But yes if we had descent stock that was well bred and traceable down to a wild caught population then the number of strips alongside other things would differentiate the different species.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/category.php?cat=9

So where are these fish now then? I am not aware of anyone breeding and selling 7 bars? Do you have any pics of the ones you guys used to have?
-
Initially I thought the same Ira, but I remember there are people who have bred them in NZ I think it was thefishtank who used to breed them by the hundred.. Maybe it is a case of not many of them being fertile due to being hybrids? I guess it is hard to know, take your fish to the vet and get it to do a sample in a container and then get a sperm count down
-
Yeah I did mention it in another thread, obviously I cannot back it up, but it sometimes seems that the fish we are dealing with have had something done with them to ensure they produce none or a very small amount of viable babies and it would certainly make sense.. Of course it is also very possible that there is something not suitable with the conditions in your tank, your male hasn't quite matured yet, or there is something wrong with him..
-
That would be the one So yeah not kigoma unfortunately
