  1. Future of the hobby mate Without kids keeping fish the hobby is dead..
  2. I agree the stand is looking amazing! Far better than I thought it would.. Thanks to hollywoods again for all the tanks, posters and hand outs it really helped to fill out the stand and we have a raffle running with almost $500 worth of prizes! Also a big thanks to birdbarn who also donated a tank which will be given away to a lucky kid who can guess how many chocolate fish are in our big jar.. More Pics and aquarium world article to follow.. Thanks to Jaxx the Midas is awesome and settled in well too
  3. Yeah have to agree on the ice blues and tropheus dub - make sure you feed lots of vege based food for the dub otherwise you may bloat it.. The top one could be an electric blue (Sc. fryeri) but would need more better pics to actually comment further.. In that sized tank with the ice blues and depending on the temperament of the dub you may have aggression issues, also no need to worry about what your PH is out of the tap it is pretty easy to buffer your PH and GH to make it suitable for africans.
  4. Just bring as much stuff as you can if it is not needed then you can take it home with you again..
  5. Unfortunately you are not allowed to bring your own pets I just checked the website, no reason you can't come and see our stall join the club and buy your doggie lots of stuff to take home and cheer him after being left behind.
  6. You should be looking for a modern house with a concrete floor I am not sure if a wooden floor would handle that weight, there are plenty of other threads on the matter I just searched for wooden floor and you will find tons, you will just need to sift though them to figure out which ones are relevant.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/search.php?keywords=wooden+floor&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search Also tons on google http://www.google.co.nz/search?q=wooden+floor+with+aquarium&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a End of the day if you are not sure get a builder/engineer to jump under the house and have a look and get it reinforced if needed..
  7. Oh yeah can't forget about Andy in the fish suit Going to be the highlight of my weekend..
  8. Price is usually based on cost + mark up + gst.. Redwoods can have lower prices because they are the importers too, $42 for a quality fish that is basically not in the country anymore is a good price good luck with breeding them!
  9. Leave the nets in there and hope you catch them just keep an eye on it and hopefully they are used to and sitting in the net when you walk past.. You can also catch fish at night so go in there with minimal light while the fish are asleep (the loaches might be out and about then). Failing that strip the tank down and get 2 nets (at least one that is fairly big) and catch them that way.
  10. Yeah we have known aquaworld have a stall for a while, apparently they are right next to us, hopefully everyone doesn't just want to look at the "nemos" and not come and talk to us
  11. Wheres Jen when you need her I am sure she will comment in time.. I know the petfood company we used to goto occasionally used to swear by the frozen minced pure meat dog foods, and other friends reckoned that they went allot further because they weren't full of fillers and all that sort of stuff but we haven't tried any of them before.
  12. Danios usually hang out around the top of the tank and would probably be a good addition to what you have there. Gouarmis also tend to hang around the top if you want something bigger.
  13. I agree, I am absolutely blown away with how much Hollywood fish farms has donated to the club for us to raffle, thanks heaps hollywood fish farms! Let us hope that it achieves the desired aim of getting more people into the club and more people keeping fish.
  14. Looks like they have some potential They should get better once they have settled. Glad to see people still importing or people breeding these guys again!
  15. Lol You could probably swim in the 6th African tank I am setting up if you want, bring your bikini and feel free
  16. I just did demasoni day, have 6 females holding only 3 were ready but had to catch all 6 to check and got 60 fry so that's not bad One female had around 40, 1 had 12 and 1 had 9 obviously all based on size/maturity. Most of the smaller females have grown up in the colony from batches I have missed or left for the smaller females to mature.
  17. Good work Only advice I could have offered you if they haven't spawned was to change something, take tank mates away, add tank mates, change tanks move the tank around, do a water change add ornatments that sort of thing it is usually a change that will trigger them into breeding.. Failing that give up and put them in a dark tank in the corner and forget about them, as soon as you do that they are guaranteed to breed... Good luck on the fry they should be like any other tang to raise so should be relatively easy, they will be quite sensitive initially though.
  18. Awesome! Glad to hear they are around again same with Hongsloi, good luck with them and I am waiting for pics too
  19. Just letting everyone who already isn't aware that the Auckland fishkeepers association will be having a stall at the pet expo this weekend we will have a number of different tanks running most of them quite big. And it also sounds like the rest of the expo would be quite fun as most of us are into all sorts of animals as well as fish, good day out for the kids too. More info here http://www.petanimalexpo.co.nz/preview.html would be good to meet some more people off the forums. For those who aren't already members of the club there will be discounted membership available on the day. Thanks to Hollywood Fish Farms there will also be a massive raffle run over the weekend with a massive prize pool including 3 all in one tanks so get down and buy some tickets!
  20. Sounds like an oxygen issue then, which would be very bizarre in a 165L tank with only 10 neons in it, there is plenty of surface area to support that.. How are measuring the temp of your tank?
  21. Come to the next Auckland fish club meeting 13th September, we have a professional photographer and good fish keeper coming along to show some pics and give us some tips.. My only tip is to take 1000 pics and you might get one good one.. Try different tank lighting, different angles, different combination of flash/macro until you happen to fluke upon one that works..
  22. It would have to be some pretty nasty chlorine to have lasted that long, but maybe it is a heavy metal or some other contamination of the water in the tank?
  23. I didn't breed mine just couldn't be bothered, went over to a guys place the other night and he has quite a few fry from these, his male is pretty amazing too, its a line he has had for many years too.. I find all of my fish like the spirulina flakes and seem to go alright on them
  24. If they are all gasping it is an oxygen/poison issue.. If your water parameters are fine then it must be an oxygen issue, neons are not good at high temps (hence being a waste of money to put in with discus), what temp is your tank at? And how are you measuring it? Neons do tend to just drop dead gradually for no apparent reason but the whole lot shouldn't overnight. Flosty was faster
  25. Tank is looking good mate Can't wait to see what it looks like in a month or 2 (unless you get that nasty algae back that is..).
