  1. Yeah that tank is heavy.. haha but I managed to get it in there by myself with the aid of poly a car jack and a set of drawers.. lol Very dodgy but it worked.. Last tropheus I saw was at wetpets however im not prepared to pay $70ish a fish when redwoods sold them for $35ea last time they imported them. Can get a bit pricey when you need to have a colony of them.... lol Hoping someone will breed them eventually and want something ive got
  2. Sweet as glad you got some.. Have you got any pics? Hopefully you breed some ill be looking for some eventually
  3. I was actually meaning to divide the smaller tank until you can get the bigger tank up and running and add more fish.. I have smaller tanks divided with pairs or trios of peacocks on each side and it works out alright, you cut the glass maybe 5mm narrower than the tank and then get a length of garden hose split it stick that all around the edges, make sure your inlet and outlet of your filter is on either side of the division and you will still get heated/filtered water flowing around the division through the gravel etc.
  4. Id buy a half descent full range one.. Those mid range ones are a bit average and on work around a ph of 7.. Not much help if your trying to setup a high or low PH tank..
  5. What are the dimentions of your tank? I tend to disagree with firenzenz, If you stuck demasoni in a tank that small and waited a year you would end up with one demasoni, I got mine straight from the mothers mouth and 9-10 months later they were breeding, they were scrapping hard and in a 300L tank from 4months old and I still had losses I had 40 of them at that stage too. But demasoni and yellow's are the ones you want to go for for blue and yellow.. If you look through the links in here you will see pics of demasoni the main problem with them is their aggression with each other which means that you need to keep them in large numbers (min 10-12) smaller numbers have worked but 10-12 seems to be the most successful. If you stuck 12 of them in a 100litre tank which im presuming is tall one of them will pretty much claim the whole bottom as his turf and the others will be smashed and the smaller ones will probably get knocked off. Your tank would be suitable for a grow out tank for a few month's for some demasoni and yellow's it may work for a few more month's but it depends if your willing to risk loosing fish.. HTH, if your tank is 100litres long rather than tall it might work out better, so if you let us know the dimentions of your tank we might be able to offer more advice..
  6. lol isn't everyone looking for them When they were in store I think they were around the $80ea mark from memory.. Very cool fish there are a few people around with them trying to breed I haven't heard of anyone producing too many babies, but I don't hear about everything
  7. Awesome glad you found the forum Im sure you will enjoy it here and have fun.. lol watching some crap TV boot camp program at the moment and the drill sgt just walked upto some good and yelled at him "what are you you look like something that came out of a tropical fish tank" random I know Anyway welcome.
  8. I think he has had previous spawnings he posted earlier saying one had spat.. Good luck with it nemines Tropheus is something that I really want to keep
  9. Is your tank a 100litre tall tank or long tank? Either way its too small really to do african cichlids successfully in. You will get away with a pair of tangs (N. Pulcher, brichardi, or J. maileri or transcriptors) or maybe some yellows when they're young but they will out grow it.. And if its a hex tank that im thinking of (which is tall) then its not ideal. What fish are you interested in keeping? Colours etc?
  10. Mekhaela - yeah the OB is looking wicked im really happy with him, just the girls are sooo mean lol they dominate all the male's of any species I stick with them Except the dragons blood before I sold him he kept breeding with them so everyone enjoyed caviar (sp??) And Tiden I haven't managed to find any Tropheus, I think its going to be my mission (if the wife lets me lol) when I get back from Timor, I have the tank in the fishroom all ready to go its 1500 x 700 x 450 would be a wicked tropheus tank
  11. lol surely aro owners could all get together and even loan him some fish it sounds like it would be something cool to do
  12. Yup thats the OB male from you guys female from you guys is around too. He's a stunner! Hopefully he might be man enough soon to stand upto his girls and actually breed with them.. They bash him when they breed and wont let him near so it comes to nothing..
  13. They will be hatched but probably not free swimming, you can strip them as long as you tumble them
  14. lol here we go again I used to buy $20 jebo heaters in Auckland but most on here say they're not that good. And in all honestly most of them dont even last their year long guarantee period (I used to keep receipts and take them back get new ones).. I think masterpet ones have a good rep and reasonable price.. Jager used to be good but don't think they're as good anymore all the old ones I have are going strong..
  15. I would think that 6mm would be strong enough, as it is acting in the other direction as bracing.. BUT others on here have said to use the same thickness as the tank.. As for getting it cut cheap, go plead poor to your local glass company ask to cut it from second hand glass.. Even ask them if they have some old glass lying around you might be able to try and cut yourself, however the 80mm strips are hard to cut I haven't had much luck cutting long ones esp in 6mm glass I could probably do it in 5mm but its harder.. Im sure some of the more experienced tank builders will come on and tell you what the story is good luck
  16. lol heres a new pic Could have easily given her up in the first few days I love my sleep.. lol But now getting used to it
  17. Yeah your tank is probably on the small side, as Frenchy said its trial and error, similar males will always have problems.. And adding more fish sometimes wont fix the problem, because if he only had a problem with that one male he will still continue to smash it.. But it would be somewhere to start, bearing in mind the size of your tank maybe chuck in some yellows or something like that, as I mentioned about if he is just targeting the maleri and not a brute it wont help. If that is the case the only thing that will help is adding more peacock males to give him targets and spread the aggression.. You could try sticking the male baenshi in a breeding net or "naughty" tank for a few days hopefully letting his place in the tank drop a few rungs then stick him back in.. But I've done that and had the original aggressor get smashed.. If your planning to upgrade in the future why not divide the tank and separate the 2 fish?
  18. Thanks guys They came out alright.. For some reason they are blurry on firefox but in focus on explorer? Seems kinda random...
  19. Took a few random pics some of them are alright so thought id share Chilumba male Young dragons blood male Fryeri male Malieri male paradise fish (I know wrong section ) Unid'd peacock male (brought as red shoulder see thread ID) J Maleri female and babies Male OB and others.. Dominant demasoni male.. Holding demasoni female Cobalt male Enjoy
  20. Possibly im unsure if they come under the category that needs to be treated like that.. I was looking at getting some food in and it was fine as long as it was sealed in a retail package..
  21. lol Yeah there is that Ron theres always that.. IMO though its just not worth the hassle with all the amounts of safe food around, commercially prepared food etc..
  22. Bloodworms are cultured in large outdoor ponds overseas full of god knows what.. I definitely wont ever introduce whatever nasties they have in them into my tank.. Cracks me up that some people go to the hassle of quarantining new fish, boiling rocks/wood but will happily pour them in.. Also something that soo many people world wide are severely allergic to (sometimes even as far that it almost kills them) cant be good.. I know they have been used for food for years and probably will always be, but to me its just not worth the hassle/risk..
  23. ryanjury

    Microworms

I just use some yeast (tip a little in) and bread wet it all so the bread absorbs it all.. Stick a teaspoon of microworms on there, and they go nuts, started up a few more tonight
  24. Im surprised anyone would want to feed their fish bloodworms with all the recent problems with them.
  25. Are you sure its not some genetic problem?
