Yeah the search function on this forum doesn't help its been down for ages and ages.. Id probably leave her a few days, I have stripped as early as a week before and tumbled them in a pasta sauce jar with an airstone and some meth blue But its soo much easier if you just strip them when they're ready or even put her in her own tank to spit naturally and then fatten her up stick her back up. Hope it all works out for you, the only reason I know what to do is ive been there done the research and also experimented for myself You could also check cichlid-forum under malawi's the same question is asked and answered probably at least once daily

lol those fronts are awesome.. hmm still considering making the move over the ditch one of these days.. haha don't post more of what you have.. Have looked around and its pretty awesome! Seems kinda weird we cant get the same fish they're less likely to live here than in Aus!
-
Yeah they sometimes get red marks around there, I don't know what it is, but as long as the fish is happy then don't worry about it... Heres the same question someone else answered to save the hassle of everyone coming on and reposting http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/is-my- ... 24160.html HTH good luck let us know how you get on

Thats just showing off Nice fish man

lol yeah as Afrikan said.. Id say its probable that the female will eat her babies once you have removed her she is likely to either forget or care if the fry are hers and see them as a meal.. How big are they? Id say if they are small enough to fit in her mouth she may have a go.. But like Afrikan said it depends on how keen you are to give it a go..
-
Cheers for that.. Were having a lot of fun with the new addition and the prettypaige trademe account actually has some meaning now.. Yeah like I said im pretty unconvinced they're hybrids.. Just trying to decide what they actually might be, the guy I got them off is a top guy but doesn't really know africans and got the breeders off trademe. Really dont want to have to feed the fry out and donate the females to the local guy breeding oscars for oscar food and they are nice fish so hmm just got to decide what to do!
-
Yeah im still unconvinced they are hybrids, gotta decide before these females are ready to be stripped its so much easier to get rid of the babies when they're young they get eaten real fast.. lol Anyone else got any suggestions?
-
Yeah if your dead set on an under gravel filter then definately go reverse flow.. Personally I wouldn't bother, you shouldn't get too much stuff settling on the sand or are you using larger gravel? What sort of flow rate filters are you going to get?
-
Go pulchers way nicer and not as common as brichardi.. Afrikan has a very nice breeding pair I have some babies from and has alot more smaller babies im sure she can do you a good deal when they're big enough to sell
-
Cheers for that man not quite up on my loaches.. Will both of them happily much down on the snails?

Females are darker with faint egg spots. The colour in the fins of the male and colour going into the head is what leads me away from red shoulder also. Just wonder if anyone has any idea what they are as they are a nice fish and would hate them to be jullie food

We can get NLS food here not retail but import it ourselves.. I'm looking into it now and it does look possible, its expensive but if you get a large quantity it actually works out cheaper than buying smaller expensive amount's of sera or nutrafin food, and when NLS is supposed to be better I think it will be worth it. Am looking into a bulk buy but I think it will get messy and more expensive due to the fact customs will try and put charges on it and maf want to do extra stuff at our cost for large lots. "I have not heard about consignments not being permitted due to their size however, large consignments may be deemed commercial and therefore may be asked for a zoosanitary certification" The cost of the food equals the shipping costs so im trying to get my dad to source it in asia and send it back through his company for cheap/free
-
NLS food is supposed to be the best.. I have contacted MAF and they said there is no problem with bringing it in provided it is in its full retail packaging.. http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/imports/ ... oic.all.ht m Is a link for the importation standards. Quote from MAF when I contacted them "I have not heard about consignments not being permitted due to their size however, large consignments may be deemed commercial and therefore may be asked for a zoosanitary certificate. Regarding the meeting of the standard I would ask you to read sections 2 and 7 carefully. Potentially a private consignment may meet section 7.2." If you brought in large quantities they would deem it to be commercial and not only try and add customs charges and may make you do zoological treatment on it (shoot it with radiation to ensure its sweet from what I can tell). I found the best prices to be off ebay and many of the sellers will ship internationally, if my dad cant get it in malaysia and send it back through his company ill be getting it from ebay and only getting 1 or 2 as I dont want to get caught up in the whole customs problems.. HTH its what ive found as ive researched it extensively I haven't researched the marine food, but the NLS cichlid food has the highest rating on the consumer section of cichlid-forum where you go and rate products etc..

If you want microworms ill give you some.. WCMM's are very very easy to breed just chuck them in a well planted tank. As for green water chuck a container outside in the sun and stick some lawn mower clippings or something in it and then it will go green, its just water born algae that they eat. infusoria I have read you munch up some lettuce pour some boiling water over it and stick it in the sun, something to do with the water going cloudy is when there is infusoria in it? Just google it im sure you will find info..

My mate has a small community tank in his lounge its 2ft long and he is having a snail problem.. At the moment he has an angel fish (killed its mate) 2 gold barbs and a few platties the rest got eaten by the angel (he wouldn't listen to me when I said the angel would do it lol). I know that clown loaches will eat the snails but get too big and do better in large groups so not suitable for him. Is there anything else that stays small is well behaved that will eat the snails? He's also got to be able to get one so something common too.. Cheers
-
Yes all the females do have have the same markings none of them have split baring or different shaped heads or eyes or anything, 2 females are holding now, they are very nice fish, he is one of my fav's the bottom pic is pretty old the top 2 are more recent. There is alot of colouring in the fins of the male which I didn't think was a red shoulder trait either, but could be a variant or a spin off? Or could be something different like a maleri? Thats why I put the pics up there, they're such nice fish would be a shame to kill off all the babies but if they're hybrids wont have any other option.
-
I brought these as red shoulder peacocks.. Hoping to get an ID on them because they're breeding like mad.. If not red shoulders hopefully they're something pure! Cheers Ryan
-
lol Steph announced that was why she had heartburn who knows? I was fine..
-
Heres a pic only a few hours old..
-
Depends who you know... I would expect to pay around $5ea for brichardi babies and maybe $7ea for pulcher babies...
-
When I bred them the parents didn't eat the babies, or at least they didn't eat many because they had heaps that lived.. Microworms are very prolific and easy to culture
-
Sweet as You could also try microworms the babies will eat the smaller ones and the adults will eat the bigger ones (assuming you have the parents and babies in the same tank).
-
Id say the normal freshwater eel's wont like a high temp the the tire tracks etc wont like a low temp.. As for mixing all the tropical ones I don't have a clue
-
They are in NZ I have no pics as I dont like them but have seen a few with stupidly high (in my opionion I know that these fish can and have sold for lots overseas) prices.. So you should be able to find some when your here
-
WCMM fry will eat anything, the best food would be either infusoria or green water and they will grow faster on these as they're natural and full of good stuff for them They will eat crushed flake from the get go and id say thats what most do with them..
