  1. Most of the time you just fix your own filters when they break.. The fluvals fetch quite a high price on trademe almost or even more than a brand new aqua one so id just buy one of them but that doesn't help you now. If you google around you should find a parts break down for them and buy the bits you need to fix them, the electrical fault maybe hard because the tops sealed, so unless its the cord (and you would have to get that repaired properly because its close to water). If you need advice on how to fix them maybe post pics on here and people can try and help.. I don't leave my water to stand at all I just use the hose straight into the tank, if I was worried about chlorine I have a bottle of super concentrated dechlorinator thats for ponds it works out really cheap I used to use it but gave up and haven't had any problems..
  2. Im really confused about the whole nayassae thing? The only allowed peacock in NZ is supposed to be nayassae but they seem to be getting a whole heap of fish into nz?
  3. My africans love them Takes them a while to break the pellets up and they don't seem to eat the smaller bits until they get water logged but they like them Obviously feed them in moderation to africans because of bloat.. But I haven't had any problems..
  4. talked to my local vet when I was in there yesterday and he said he knew nothing about fish med's but if I go in with a print out of what I want and know strengths etc he will happily give them to me.. This vet seemed reasonable enough that he probably wouldn't charge me a colsult, its probably worth a look at your vets over there..
  5. Is that the one off trademe? I don't think that Al Nyassae is used anymore? http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/r ... p?genus=17

red zebs are common as mud? I used to breed heaps of them but got rid of the breeders and only have 6 of the best of their young to grow out and breed from again

Top fish in top pic is a male ice blue. Would say your other one is a girl, they can get agro so watch your other fish, however you pretty much only have mbuna so they should be sweet. Second pic could be cobalt blue, but could also be a zebra cross with cobalt in it.. Its shape looks a bit different but it could be the pic.

  10. They are generally pretty easy going... The hardest thing ive found is getting healthy ones.. I have brought soo many that looked sweet in the stores and have just lost them unexpectedly at home for no reason, despite treating with metro, prazi you name it and others have had the same problem... lol if anyones got any descent home bred ones let me and anyone else looking for them know! I put it down to poorly bred fish from fish farms but I dont know for sure what happened to mine maybe im just unlucky.. Who knows! Good luck though..

    Socolofi Fry

Awesome glad to hear it all worked out They will grow relatively fast and eat almost anything from now!
  12. If it has an outlet its direction can be changed, what about a random right angle jammed over the outlet pipe will do the trick
  13. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/are-my ... 24739.html metro in chch http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/anyone ... 24501.html prazi in chch
  14. Hmmm well thats not soo easy then.. If the fish go off their food, get skinny and sunken in stomach's then I would assume some sort of internal problem.. Do you have any other fish left? And what are they behaving like? Eating normally still filled out no white stringy poo's or anything like that? If it is internal problems then you need to get some metro and or prazi to knock it out..
  15. Have you been doing all your good stuff.. Cycling and all that sort of thing? Have you got a test kit and been keeping an eye on things, blue rams and clown's are sensitive.. Maybe ammonia spike? I have had no end of trouble with blue rams I think they come full of disease and internal parasites, not too many problems with clown loaches but wouldn't doubt it.. Some of the fish that arrive from the wholesalers are pretty thread bare and crapy.. As above are the fish eating before they die? What colours are their poo's?
  16. Sweet cheers for that Warren I had all but given up on finding one for a reasonable price now im going to be hunting for bargains when im on night shift and have the days off lol
  17. Wicked yeah ill have to have a look around.. Are the older ones still really efficient? Ie heat cheaply? I was considering a 1kw oil heater and fan but that might get expensive..
  18. I want a $50 heatpump to heat my room! lol Where exactly did you get this from warren? I have looked around at trademe and that and they're soo expensive on there.. Expecially to heat a fish room dont think my wife would let me spend heaps to heat that while she freezes inside lol

Sweet as I thought it was more likely from looking at pics around on cichlid forum and seeing the body colour and blaze matched up more with different locational varients that the fish originated from that varient.. Who knows I would just try and keep it as pure as I could Would love to see the pics firenz haven't got any baenshi yet but will get some next year Its sooo frustrating having all these tanks empty!

lol now im really really confused.. Mike said he had sold the fish to the shop in question and he had brought it as a Jacob so thats what it is... The latest lot of jacobs and baenshi were off the wholesale list, and I presume imported (unless someone bred enough jacob's and baenshi to supply a wholesaler) And I was saying these could be different to the ones that Mike had that were brought in years ago. Noone ever said anything about any fish being mislabelled and sold to shops? I know Mike and no he wouldn't breed or sell crap. Smidey had said the owner of the shop forgot what he brought them as and contacted Mike for clarrification when the cellphone cut out. Also noone suggested breeding and selling hybrids at all, the closest thing was smidey buying a fish and matching it roughly upto a pic and suggesting breeding it to his baenshi females, although he did the right thing and asked for a second opioning and found out what his fish was.. I like you have had breedings where their were more than one male in the tank and every time ive fed the babies out as I couldn't gurantee the parentage of the babies..
  21. Sweet as just keep them if some make it trade them back to the pet shop.. Or stick something in there that will eat them..

lol im confused I never said you would mix them up because I know you wouldn't (if thats what you were saying). The latest lot of baenshi haven't seemed to colour up as I would expect I had a memory of seeing yours (Mikes) up in Auckland and they didn't look like that.. Are you still breeding those ones Mike?
  23. Sorry just read your post.. haha dont worry whats a few more cories? They're cool.. Thats if they make it past the filter intake.. Do the parent cories eat the eggs?
  24. If its a community tank they should get eaten
