  1. Awesome to hear frenchy.. Its a pity we dont get stuff like that in NZ! Actually its a pity we dont get anything new imported..
  2. Do they not hatch because they get fungused? Have you done something to stop the fungus.. Before they go white and fluffy do they darken? That would mean they were actually fertilized its possible your male may be infertile if they wont hatch..
  3. Awesome good luck with the treatment let everyone know how you get on.. BTW if you dont mind me asking what did the metro cost you? Did the vet charge you a consult?
  4. Did you go in and ask for metro or metronidazole also know as flagyl.. As far as im aware its pretty common I haven't been to the vets here to get it yet though.. Heres a link http://www.medicinenet.com/metronidazole/article.htm And the beef heart and bloodworm debat will go on forever, I dont feed either for various reasons after doing research on the internet.. But I know that people will probably always continue to feed it and thats fine but may cause problems in the long run..
  5. lol yeah just read how many tetras are in there? And how big is the tank?
  6. Id say if they're not eating and having white stringy poo's sounds like internal parasites.. Quite common in discus (or it affects them more than other fish) treat them asap as for treatment just wait for discusguru to see this and tell you what to do..

Mike said he got them a few years ago, although they would have come in with no varient listed, they will most likely colour differently to the ones that came in recently. I mean who's to say that the importer brought the fish from the same exporter, or the exporter got there fish from the same supplier with the same line every export for the last few years? Some of them could have come from different locations or different fish that colour differently.. It has happened recently with kadango's and lithobates, one lot of kadango's and litho's (although they had no listed variant) were a splitting image of one.. And the later lot seem to have a larger blaze and colour differently, if you were to get a male from the early lot and a female from the later lot although you wouldn't be producing hybrids because they are the same species its not a good practice.. Dont think Mike would be offended he's just to the point.
  8. Yeah I was looking at my big african tank today thinking how white and crap the crushed coral looks.. Was thinking all black substrate and black rocks would be a better contrast with the fish!

Awesome Make sure if you do get a jacob female for our male you get one that came in the same time as your male, the latest lot maybe a different strain (even though we dont get them imported with strains or variants) If Mike sold that fish to the shop you can guarantee its pure because he has some of the best africans in nz and breeds in species tanks with peacocks.

Awesome pics I cant see how you do it.. Good luck Smidey, I hope it does work out for you, how big is the male? I have been in the same place as you a few times too when I used to live in Auckland and was always looking for males for fish. I brought a few trying to match them up and in the end ended up getting rid of them and getting descent ones from breeders or sometimes starting again to ensure I was breeding the right thing.. There was always the thought that maybe it was a different male colouring differently or a hybrid that threw that way and if I sell them and they turn out to be randoms ill feel bad and create more hybrids. If the guy (Richard) you brought them off can assure you the seller is good with his fish etc then cant you get him to get in touch (or talk to him next time he's in the shop) to ask him what the fish is supposed to be and then its all good

It is very hard to accurately Id peacocks especially if you didn't get a hint when you picked up the male.. If I was you I would advertise on here (or hopefully someone reading this will help you out) I know some people got numbers of pairs of these and would have spare males that were at least imported as baenshi. And as african said most shops get a shipment and go whats that... Hmm a peacock oh yeah sweet we'll stick it in our peacock tank.. And then you come along wanting a female from their peacock tank and who knows what your getting.. Good luck mate and how big is this fish supposed to be? You said its about 3" bigger than your females so it would be 5-6"? Seems pretty big to have no colour..

Ditto on that.. Did you buy the fish as Al Baenshi? Or did you buy the fish thinking "hey that could be a baenshi"?
  14. I have a spare male pearl if you want it
  15. Im pretty sure that neon's will school with cardinal's or other tetra's that are similar..
  16. He is looking good man, it should fully heal Im glad it worked have seen it a few times and treated it the same way each time, if you dont treat it the eye basically rots out its what happened the first time I noticed it and didn't do anything about it He's a nice looking fish too, is he one of the ones you bred from?
  17. Id say if I was building a 2000litre tank I would use at least 12mm glass for everything depending on dimentions maybe thicker.. Its going to be expensive but 2000litres is alot of water (and fish) that you dont want on the floor!
  18. Theres probably no reason why you couldn't stick everything in the same tank while they're young.. Just watch the aggression and seperate stuff out as they get bigger and agro Congrats on the bristlenose egg's mine breed in african tanks all the time
  19. Wicked pic man! Giraffes kick ass!
  20. The most likely fish to cross breed are the ice blues with the cobalt's, and the single fryeri female with the electra.. But that wont be a problem until they're mature. Are the fish very small, juvvies or what? Because with the numbers of ice blues especially it will be a pretty agro tank.. When bigger I wouldn't stick any zebra in a 3ft tank I have tried it but they got bullied maybe if you crammed heaps in you might get away with it, but I know my big cobalt male dominates quarter my 540litre tank when he gets in a mood my wife sits there and watches him and keeps saying she's going to catch him stick him in a naughty tank lol.. How bigs your 3ft? They should be fine when smaller, alot of the people I sold ice blues ended up selling them on as they grew up as they got too agro, and 2 of them had them in 6ft tanks they got sick of their peacocks getting bashed. So keep an eye on them especially with your 4ft tank.
  21. Yep thats where I saw them the other weekend, they were in a huge tank so should have enough room to be agro
  22. Sorry to hear about that.. I have heard that tropheus and fronts especially take quite a few times to get it right, id say just give her time and like you said at least you have at least one girl

    Cockatoo Fry

Glad to hear it all worked out I remember your initial post.. If/when your ready to sell some and your going to ship let me know
  24. Thats awesome good luck raising them.. They're pretty sensitive when small so take it easy on them and you'll be fine

    Fryeri mating

I think all fish take a few times to get the hang of it and mature enough to produce descent brood's.. Thats not to say they wont hold full term, I have had plenty successfully hold the first time.
