  1. As above I also use a net to get the sand out.. It can ruin your net but oh well its easier than mucking around, also be careful not to grate the sand up against your glass it will scratch it.. You do realize there is no reason to take the sand out? You could add the lime chips in a stocking and hide it at the back of the tank or stick it in the filter or something like that? Would save alot of work thats all.. Brichardi are cool fish thats for sure, the parents will breed then the babies will grow up and they will also help guard any future spawn's so you will have many many generations in the same tank eventually The tank will look a bit empty initially though.. One pair of small fish in a big tank! lol And yeah I was a bit annoyed about the brichardi/pulcher thing, we understand they should be kept apart, but eventually once it filters down people will mix them all up and the nice yellow ones will be lost, although im keeping my yellow ones and thats all ive got so mine will be pure, so will afrikans So its not all bad!
  2. what do you think.. I only breed fish that I buy at the same time as the same thing, male and all females came from the same batch.. Too many hybrids around people trying to pick and mix females all worried about inbreeding, I only do this with my mbuna if I see an exceptional male/female from a good source. Am trying to Id these guys im pretty sure they're some sort of mailieri they are very nice fish and im reluctant to kill their babies..

    new tank

Doch I have sent you a PM.. Good advice Chris, although your tank may seem big there are many african species that would dominate anything you stick in it, unless of course you stick a couple of huge filters on it and chuck a heap of fish in it and although ive done that it doesn't really work long term.. Best to ask for advice before buying any fish and do your research, someone just won an auction for bristlenoses from me on trademe and wanted to stick them in a pond.. lol Always pays to do a quick google or ask on here before buying. Demasoni and yellow's were my first though because they are both suitable for the smaller tank And you could get away with a trio of peacocks in there (watch for the haps they tend to get bigger and more aggressive).
  4. I think I have read that persons feedback theres alot of complaints about the size of the plants etc.. Sorry to hear you got ripped off Dan for those that don't know him Dan (bob the builder) is one of the good ones, he's one of those people you go and buy 6 fish and he just takes a scoop and you go home with more So it is a shame to hear it has happened to him.. What type of plants were they? If you wanted to buy plants I know I can recommend Mincie off here if you ever see him selling stuff on an auction site (you will know because theres not many others from Levin) you will know your getting pics of what your actually buying they will be well packaged and he will usually chuck in more..

Cheers Rogan glad to hear your happy I know you were worried about shipping How are the little guys? I bet they've almost doubled in size?
  6. I would probably just give Phil a call and ask him to give you some advice he breeds alot of discus If they pair get on are healthy and eating well there is no real reason why they shouldn't breed, maybe its just a waiting game..
  7. Sweet did he sell them as a breeding pair or a pair? So you've found a food they eat and don't spit out? Do they scrap..
  8. Water changes every 4 weeks? Sounds a bit long to me.. Have you measured your water conditions ammonia nitrates nitrites all that stuff? Maybe something built up to a dangerous level and affected the fish that have died? What fish are they? Are they all the same type? Gasping at the surface could be oxygen related has there been any improvement since restarting the aeration and doing the water change? I cant see the vid im on dial up and wont even bother lol
  9. I don't know I only had some for a few months and then sold them on when I got sick of water changes.. Id say 30 would be fine someone that actually breeds them may correct me.. Even if they're male and female they may not be compatible, do they fight?
  10. Have you tried different food? You wont have any luck conditioning them if they wont eat.. Are their poo's normal colour or white and stringy? How big is there tank? Are they happy or do they skitz out when you walk into the room? And are they a proven pair? Or just a "breeding pair" you brought off trademe or someone you don't really know?
  11. The traditional way of buffering the water was using lime chips, now the coral sand is popular any way works, I'm guessing your talking about Brichardi or as they're known now as pulchers (still not happy about that lol) Aftricans are determined little buggers and no matter what you use they will dig! If it wont fit in there mouth they will swim with their mouths open and bulldozer it out of the way.. So don't worry about that! Are you thinking a species tank? Or going to try and mix some fish with them?

Based in Bulls.. But sell the fish small so they can be shipped cheaply.. I sent 18 demasoni to evil for $20 shipping.. Brought some of those huge ass aqua one bags so just put them all in that in one box so much easier and haven't lost any yet, even managed to send 60 yellows in one 5kg box
  13. Yeah I think ive been getting lucky with the pics lately For some reason she already spat.. Oh well they almost look maileri sunshine/gold to me?
  14. Just snapped some pics of my peacocks breeding this morning thought I would share for those that dont see it all the time This peacock is unidentified (same as Chazza's) so if the pics ring any bells to anyone let me know Male Circling around picking up eggs and milt. Male showing off Male showing off again.. Hopefully I get an Id on these fish soon as I have just stripped a female and she had 30 odd babies and don't really know what to do with them!

    new tank

lol ill have demasoni and yellows soon if you wanted some I just sold some demasoni to evil This is a pic of my dominant male demasoni im sure you know what electric yellows look like, people always ask if my tank is marine mainly due to the bright colours of the demasoni and yellows. The reason I suggested those if you were going for africans is the size of your tank you can do 12 demasoni (recommended min number) and 6 yellows and maybe a couple of peacocks in your tank and it would be wicked, or else of course you could go down the discus, dwarf cichlid or even some of the smaller sth americans.. It depends what colours and that you want

Yeah would make a wicked as tank for some demasoni yellows and a few male peacocks
  17. Actually second the dwarf gourami's they seem to be the sickest looking fish in all shops..
  18. Its all random depends on if a bad lot is imported, the conditions in the pet shop, how your tank is your maintenace etc.. I think most people have one fish they just cant keep, I cant seem to keep paradise fish or blue rams alive blue rams seem fairly hard to keep alive alot of people have trouble with them.

  21. Unsure what the little blue guys are any chance you can get a non blurry photo of them? Same with the peacocks, how big are they? Is there anything more dominant in the tank? Agreed with the litho's though

  24. These fish are from the same parents as the ones I was getting an ID on if it helps
  25. Yeah cant beat the bristlenose I have them breeding in my african tank so they're obviously happy in there Others may work well as long as they're adjusted..
