Im probably going to get in trouble for posting this but my local pet shop had 2 probably nearly 30cm at least 25cm anyway catfish one was a pictus and the other was same shape as pictus but blue/black colour? They were only $60ea (which I thought was cheap) so yeah just wondered if anyone was looking for them PM me if you are will pass on details no I dont work there just thought they were wicked and wanted them myself lol
No I know exactly what bloodworms are.. I have done research and although I haven't found any scientific evidence (have heard it exists but cant find it wading through the internet) as to why they're bad.. It is a fact that there are many many people worldwide that are severely allergic to them some of them so bad they walk into a shop thats fed them in the last few days and they cant breath... As I said people will keep feeding them as they always have and thats cool
I guess everyone has their reasons and to me its just not worth the risk, who knows I could be caught on a fad that someone started but I'm sweet with what I'm feeding at the moment and im sure everyone that uses bloodworms is happy also
But yours definitely aren't

Id say yours are just the red or gold spot pleco's I think its very hard to identify anything without a L number for pleco's or Sc. name.. I have gone a google image search for both and get random pleco's so yeah I dont know get a pic and flick it up
lol sorry to say but the likely hood of a substrate spawner (Anomalochromis thomasi) and a mouthbrooder crossbre..eding are very unlikely..
A better pic would help, but im thinking green terror but I don't know much about cichlids that don't come from african lakes..
It will probably take the male a few times to get it right, from what ive read its quite common for the first few spawn's to be unsuccessful due to the male.. I'm sure the next few times will go well for you
I'm surprised that the female held unfertilized eggs for that long?
I just chuck food in? lol At the moment their fav foods are some random marine stuff I have lying around and cichlid colour bits... I feed some random stuff but mainly my homemade stuff and spirilina flake/pellets..
I grew mine out from babies.. This is the 2 females first spawnings..
I think this male originated from the same shipment as the one your talking about? I have a pair of them that I grew out too the females due to be stripped this weekend too.. Actually very similar to the pic of the fish I'm talking about..

Basically create a photobucket account (others work but photobucket is easy)
Make your album public, then upload your pics under your pic will be an IMG code box you can copy all of that and put it here and the pic will come up.. To see if its worked click on the preview button first HTH good luck
I think the freezer is painless because they just shut down and chill out and then die... But yeah if you don't want the hassle just feed them out or smash them on the concrete its instant and effective..
Yeah they will still be tiny so wouldn't expect strong colours just yet.. The male is orange-yellow its a weird colour definitely not red.. Hmm now ive got to decide what to do with these 2 holding females..
Yeah id agree with the def not red shoulder I realized that when he had colour in his fins and into his head..
Could almost be this.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1408 bearing in mind he's still young.. I really hate id'ing fish and trying to match them up with photo's especially when there is such variation in colours of fish as they mature and with different breeding etc..
Well D day is approaching ive got to decide to keep the babies or not! lol So what would you do?? The 3 females are identical and the 2 holding ones are the same colour shape size etc.. I'm unsure I don't want to breed any hybrids but then again I'm not sure these guys are hybrids and I don't want to kill them if they aren't..
I sold the whole first spawn of these guys to a local friend off here and he has said to me that 4 of them are colouring up identical to my male and the others have no colour...
Heres a new pic if it helps
Cheers for any advice or observations..
lol I think he's trying to get around the $$ that aqua one would cost everyone
You can buy like 20-30kg of most gravel for the price of like 5 at a petshop I think thats all they do buy it in bulk cheap as and package it up sell it for a huge profit.. Thats business but if we can get it before they add their cut we save money
The fish club here kinda died out.. There are a few of us around here that keep in touch and get stuff off each other, if you want to catch up send me a PM or email
I have never kept jewel's before but id say your 2ft tank is probably too small for 2 pairs unless you did something to separate them like a divider or something.. And then there might not be enough room for the females if they males get agro during breeding.. lol but then again ive never kept them im sure someone who has will offer better advice
That should work, I usually tumble them in a glass jar with an airstone and some meth blue, you can adjust the height of the airstone to adjust the amount of tumbling they get.. Are they hatched? And how many did you get?
